Fanfic / Lumen Verse Family Christmas

Go To

The Lumen-Verse Family Christmas is a Massive Multiplayer Crossover by user SailorPrincess95. A combination of A Muppet Family Christmas and Once Upon a Studio, the fic unites Lumen's closest friends with several of their favorite characters for Christmas at their Abuela's house in Georgia.

Over 200 characters are featured in the crossover from various sources. While it follows the plot and story beat of A Muppet Family Christmas, it also serves as its own work with many extra scenes and character developments.

It can be read on the user's Deviantart or in a more streamlined, linear version on Archive of Our Own.

Lumen-Verse Family Christmas examples of:

  • Adapted Out: Even a fic this big could not include everyone. Only the most pivotal characters appear. Some cuts included the Tao Twins, Grandma Super, the other Kyoshi warriors, All Might, Ragyo, Willow, Gus, Hunter, Grime, Olivia, Yunan, and a few more.
    • Kaufmo is not even given a passing mention, and his place in the theme song is officially taken over by Pomni.
    • Lampshaded by Lumen when she mentions "there were a couple hundred no-shows".
  • Adaptation Expansion: Several extra scenes of character interactions are added to both include humor and flesh out the universe of the crossover.
    • The Christmas medley at the end includes eight new songs, including "The Gloucester Wassail", "Still, Still, Still", and "All I Want for Christmas is You"
  • Adaptational Badass: Unlike Fozzie, Ryan is able to tell great jokes to put his hecklers on their toes. Plankton and Jinx are silenced upon hearing his wit and perfect comedic timing.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: Borderline example with Uzi, who seems a bit grumpy and resistant to gifts, but warms up to Christmas later.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Caine gives an exit when in the short, he makes it clear there is no exit from his realm.
    • Mr. E fills in the role of Doc from the original. Rather than being a curmudgeon, he is open to the other guests, but a bit cautious and timid around them. He does warm up by the end and volunteers to go fetch Aaliyah.
    • Jayce from Arcane helps fund the trip.
  • Author Avatar: Lumen, along with their court and princess friends, are all based on real people.
  • Crosscast Role: Eda as Santa Claus. This is an in-universe Actor Allusion to the author's previous fic which was an Owl House version of "Christmas Who?" in which Eda took on the role of Santa Claus.
  • Every Proper Lady Should Curtsy: What Lumen's friends do upon meeting Abuela.
  • Excuse Plot: Mr. E is bringing the Wombats and their friends to attend a special show in downtown Atlanta. This seems to be done to both justify Mr. E being there and to have him bring the child characters with him.
  • Go-Karting with Bowser: Justified with Plankton, who hops in with Mr. Krabs, but is told he will be dismissed from the party if he misbehaves.
  • Gratuitous Princess: Lumen and all their friends are princesses, as are Shelby, Chariot, and Aaliyah.
  • In Memoriam: Dedicated to the author's actual grandmother, who died shortly before the fic was written.
  • Massive Multiplayer Crossover: See the characters section for the full number of characters who appear. The number is over 200.
  • Pragmatic Adaptation: Some of the more dated elements of Muppet Family Christmas are fixed, such as Aaliyah calling Lumen on their cell phone, the use of Uber and U-Haul, as well as the means by which Malik and Mr. E find Aaliyah in the snow by satellite rather than by luck.
  • Shout-Out: The ending contains a rendition of "When You Wish Upon A Star" as a deliberate homage to Once Upon A Studio.
    • Elisa and Goliath sing the same part of the song Belle and Beast do in the short, in reference to the Halloween episode where they played the same roles.
    • Andrea comments on how she recognizes Alex's dress, which according to the author's visual aid was modeled after Andrea's Snow Queen dress from her own Christmas Special.
  • Straight Man: Mr. E
  • Theme Tune Cameo: For The Amazing Digital Circus, the characters are introduced using the Theme Tune Roll Call from the show.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: Talking animals and monsters are just treated as normal with these people. Abuela does not even seem fazed by the presence of Devil Dinosaur; her only objection is there is no room for him inside the house.
  • Wholesome Crossdresser: Matthew, who wears a dress as a form of comfort and aside from a few lines in passing, this is never frowned upon.
