Light and Dark
is a Danny Phantom and Young Justice (2010) crossover fanfic by the author of Adventures of a Screwed Up Clone, where Sam is abducted by the Light because she has both Order and Chaos magic inside her.
Sam isn't your average human. Her boyfriend's a half dead superhero that fights ghosts from another dimension (with her help of course), her family is filthy rich and she couldn't care less, and she's the byproduct of chaos and order magic mingling. Wait... What? Danny will do anything to protect the people he loves, but even he can't save Sam from herself.
Light and Dark provides examples of:
- Asleep for Days: After Sam smashes Danny's balance to pieces, he falls into a coma-like state for four days after he finally gets things semi-stable enough that he won't die or melt into goo when he stops focusing.
- Cassandra Truth:
- Sam doesn't initially believe that she has magic, believing that she'd have used it already if that was really the case.
- When the heroes come to Amity looking for Danny, he's a bit skeptical about the whole situation, though he does play up the skepticism in an attempt to tail them.
- "Eureka!" Moment: When talking with Sam about how to allow her to control her Order and Chaos magic, Zatanna mentions that such opposites have never existed in the same vessel before. That makes Sam realize that they have, and she's dating him, since, as a halfa, Danny embodies both life and death.
- Ghost Amnesia: Most ghosts have limited memories of their mortal lives. Some don't remember anything but their actual death.
- Green-Eyed Monster: Sam, in a half-conscious meditative state, gets jealous of the balance and stability Danny has that her own power lacks, and impulsively lashes out.
- Her Boyfriend's Jacket: Sam apparently likes wearing Danny and Tucker's hoodies and such so much that Danny just gave her a Danny Phantom themed hoodie as a birthday present so she wouldn't need to steal them anymore. He even wore it for a bit so it'd smell like him
- Heroic Self-Deprecation: Danny's anxiety is a major theme here.
- Innocently Insensitive:
- Red Robin tries to help Danny open up to the rest of the team and get out of his shell, but the halfa just views it as prying.
- Sam is so caught up in learning magic that she doesn't notice Danny's anxieties.
- My God, What Have I Done?: Sam is horrified when she realizes what impulsively destroying Danny's balance did to him.
- The Nose Knows: Sam can detect magic by scent.
- Superman Stays Out of Gotham: Danny lampshades this when Red Robin, Halo, and 13 come to Amity Park to look for him, and he finds them first.
- Teleportation Sickness: Danny does not like travelling by Zeta-Beam, due to the way it interacts with his form. The League ends up giving him a Mother Box instead so he can visit Sam and the Watchtower while still taking care of his hero duties in Amity.
- There Are No Therapists: After Danny's experience with Spectra, it's understandable that he'd have issues with therapists. Red Robin manages to convince him to give it a shot, though.
- Un-person: After Sam was taken, her house was completely cleaned out save for a hidden stash of stuff she kept under the floorboards, and all of Sam's records were erased, along with her parents. Her grandmother's records are still there, but she's missing.
- Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Danny's bracelet gift to Sam was what made her magic accessible, and got her abducted by the Light.
- Wham Episode: In Chapter 13 Black Canary learns that Danny is a halfa.
- Yin-Yang Bomb: Sam somehow has access to both order and chaos magic, despite them normally being incompatible and cancelling. The only reason she's able to use her magic is because a gift Danny gave her affected her other magics, a bracelet made of his ghost ice and ectoplasm inscribed with ghostly runes.
