Not many people would imagine The R-Rated hero as a mother. They don't know about it, either.

Izuku Kayama grew up masquerading as a normal kid when he's far from it. With a quirk deemed practically useless in heroics, and a mother the lustful people of Japan adore, he's thrown into a mess of revealing his parentage and fighting tooth and nail to claim his spot in heroics.

And with the help of the local insomniac and crazy inventor, he might just make it. Hopefully he doesn't put too many people to sleep in the process.

Lavandula Somnambulist is a My Hero Academia fanfic by Double_bubble_disco_queen and can be read on Archive of Our Own here.

Lavandula Somnambulist provides examples of:

  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul:
    • In canon, Aizawa and Hizashi are Red Oni, Blue Oni friends and Aizawa is Shinso's mentor. Here, Aizawa and Hisashi are married and Shinso is their adopted son.
    • Inko and Nemuri are apparently long-time friends.
    • In canon, Izuku considers Bakugo to be his friend and rival, taking the abuse and channeling it into a zeal to surpass him. Here Izuku is much more cynical and sarcastic towards him, barely acknowledging his presence while Bakugo tries to push his buttons.
  • Contrived Coincidence: The fact that Izuku (son of Midnight) and Shinso (adopted son of Eraserhead and Present-Mic, Midnight's friends and coworkers) become friends comes as a complete surprise to all three of their parents.
  • In Spite of a Nail:
    • Bakugo's treatment of Izuku is relatively the same, mistreating him for his comparatively unimpressive quirk instead of being quirkless.
    • All Might still tells Izuku that he can't be a hero after saving him from the Sludge Villain, though this time is was because he thinks that Izuku's quirk is ill-fit for the high-stakes, fast-paced lifestyle of a pro-hero.
  • Knockout Gas: Much like his mother, Izuku's quirk allows him to emit gas that can knock people unconscious. Here, it comes from his mouth, and can even make the unconscious bodies do his bidding to a limited capacity (making it fit the name "Somnambulist" more so than his mother). While he has fairly good control over it, he can suffer Power Incontinence when he gets excited so he wears a face mask when out in public.
  • Mama Bear: Midnight has been known to use her hero agency to ensure Izuku's safety and growth, using her interns "the Midnight Boys" to help him train his quirk and would have used them to turn the city inside out when his encounter with the Sludge Villain made him run late if Izuku hadn't made it home.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: The fact that Izuku has a mind-control aspect to his quirk helps ease Shinso into trusting him.
  • Point of Divergence:
    • Izuku never gets One For All, entering the Gen Ed course with the hopes of entering the Hero course via the Sports Festival.
    • Having a quirk and being the son of Midnight, Izuku meets Shinso, Eraserhead, and Present-Mic before he even enters UA.
  • Pretty Boy: The moment Aizawa and Hisashi meet Izuku, they immediately see the resemblance, and Shinso develops an infatuation with him when they meet. Considering his mother built her career on her sex appeal, this is a given.
  • Related in the Adaptation: Here, Izuku is not the birth son of Hisashi and Inko Midoriya. Instead, he is Midnight's son, Hisashi being the donor and Inko being the surrogate mother that carried him to term.
  • Superpowerful Genetics: Izuku's mother has the ability to emit a Knockout Gas from her exposed skin while his baby-daddy can breathe fire. Both of these quirks manifest in the form of a Super-Breath that can knock people unconscious and can control them like sleepwalking puppets.
  • What Kind of Lame Power Is Heart, Anyway?: Despite having a quirk, Izuku is treated relatively the same as his canon counterpart in Aldera and by All Might in their first meeting because his quirk lacks the kind of finesse and impressive raw power typical of the average superhero.
