It's the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine) is a crossover between Harry Potter and the Cthulhu Mythos by Quatermass on Fanfiction Dot Net.

Exploring the Dursleys' attic led Harry to discovering a few hard truths. His mother is alive and well. She has been imprisoned for years. Oh, and did we mention she's none other than the Crawling Chaos, Nyarlathotep? Watch out, Magical Britain! Sanity's going bye-bye with this Outer God and her son...

It's the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine) provides examples of:

  • Adaptation Name Change: The Sorting Hat is named Sebastian.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Shubby and Nyarly are perfectly affable individuals for mind-breaking Eldritch Abominations.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: Yig is Harry's true father instead of James Potter.
  • Adaptational Species Change:
    • Harry Potter is a young Outer God instead of a human wizard.
    • Luna Lovegood is a shoggoth thanks to Lily saving her from dying.
  • Adaptational Villainy: Dumbledore is responsible for draining Lily of her power as an Outer God and trapping her inside a coffin in this continuity. Lily notes that in most of the other realities she looked into, he's not nearly that bad of a person.
  • And I Must Scream: The Dursleys will have their souls bound to their dead bodies until they finish decaying as part of Lily's payback for treating her son like trash.
  • Arranged Marriage: Daphne and Astoria Greengrass are respectively forced into these for Draco Malfoy and Theodore Nott by Voldemort's followers, causing Daphne to swear allegiance to Harry after she summons him to spite the Death Eaters and help her and her sister escape from their forced marriages.
  • Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: Lily calls out Petunia for being a bitch just because their parents transferred the latter's magic into Lily's body after she was miscarried.
  • Historical Villain Upgrade: In-Universe example with Lovecraft exaggerating Nyarlathotep and Shub-Niggurath's less savory aspects.
  • Horrifying the Horror:
    • Outer Gods like Nyarly can easily terrify Dementors with mere presence alone.
    • Nyarlathotep tried to make H. P. Lovecraft smile and/or laugh for once in his life. The resulting smile was so terrifying that she describes it as being capable of making Hastur pee himself.
  • It's Personal: Yig hates Voldemort for abusing the snakes under his command and gives Harry his express permission to kill him for his crimes.
  • Me's a Crowd: Luna can split into multiple copies thanks to her amorphous nature of her shoggoth physiology.
  • Mercy Kill: Yig gives Harry a free pass for putting the basilisk living in Hogwarts out of its misery given that it had gone mad from the abuse it suffered under Voldemort and the isolation it endured.
  • Papa Wolf: Cyrus Greengrass loves both of his daughters dearly and gives Voldemort a verbal middle finger when he visits him right before his death.
  • Pay Evil unto Evil:
    • Condemning a family to a Fate Worse than Death seems like overkill until you realize that the family in question are the Dursleys, who have made Harry's home life absolute hell prior to him finding and reviving his mom.
    • Kreacher ends up getting his head mounted on the wall of Sirius Black's old home after Harry "accidentally" kicks him into a hook hanging off of the walls there. Given how much of a Jerkass the old house-elf was throughout the series, it certainly has a karmic touch to it considering how happy Sirius, Hermione, the Weasleys, and Tonks were after they learned that he kicked the bucket.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Lily's outfit is based on that of Salem.
    • Shub-Niggurath is heavily inspired by her portrayal in Ow, my sanity.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Lily never really dies thanks to her status as Nyarlathotep, but is stuck in a coffin for a while.
