The fate of Equestria hangs in the balance when a familiar foe returns, far more powerful than ever before, seeking the power of an Ancient Artifact. And Shine Paladin must face dark secrets from the past in order to save all he holds dear.
Tropes:
- An Aesop: Even in the darkest of times, you should never give up hope.
- Artifact of Doom: The Crystal Sun. It can be used to wipe out an entire nation of whatever creature the user wants it to.
- Big Bad: Red Eclipse, real name Black Night Paladin.
- Call-Back: To the show. When Shine and Miracle arrive at the Castle of the Two Sisters, Miracle mentions the Pony of Shadows from Catle-Mania.
- Damsel in Distress: Miracle, who ends up being needed to be sacrificed to the Crystal Sun for it to be operational.
- De-power: Red Eclipse uses Sombra's horn to deprive Chrysalis, Luna, Cadance and Twilight of the Alicorn magic. Fortunately for Celesia, she siphoned her magic to her husband (though it was really Caboose who ended up having it) before Red Eclipse had a chance on taking it.
- Destroy the Villain's Weapon: Twitch accidentally destroys the Crystal Sun after he becomes a giant.
- Even Evil Has Standards: Tirek expresses disgust to Twitch about what him and Red Eclipse did to conquer Equestria.
- Handicapped Badass: In the ninth chapter, even though Miracle managed to fully blind him, Red Eclipse still proves to be a force to be reckoned with.
- I Gave My Word: In the 6th chapter, Grim refuses to let Caboose try to help save Equestria since he promised Archy he would keep him safe. Caboose deconstructs this by saying Archy wouldn't care if he went against his word because he would want them to fight for Equestria.
- Negated Moment of Awesome: While Miracle does manage to fully blind Red Eclipse, she is still rather inexperienced with magic and her attacks fall flat after the aforefentioned blinding.
- Near-Villain Victory: The good guys manage to turn the tides against Red Eclipse and his army in the seventh chapter.
- Papa Wolf: In chapter 7, upon seeing his son at the mercy of a shadow pony, Caboose swoops in and destroys said monster.
- Shine becomes this when Red Eclipse tries to murder Miracle to fully charge the Crystal Sun.
- The Reveal:
- Red Eclipse is actually Shine's uncle and his real name is Black Knight.
- The Napoleon Brothers had a brother named Anarchy 'Archy' Napoleon, who was killed by Twitch.
- Would Hurt a Child: Red Eclipse shows to hesitation on attempting to sacrifice Miracle, who happens to be his great-niece, to the Crystal Sun in order to empower it.
