Henry Stickmin Royalty AU
is a series of Henry Stickmin Series Fanfics published by Femalesonicexe on Archive of Our Own and FanFiction.Net.
As the title suggests, it is an Alternate Universe Fic set in medieval times, with the factions in the games being kingdoms and characters being royalty or working for royalty. There are two entries: Part 1 and Part 2.
Part 1 mainly revolves around the disappearance of Henry Stickmin, the Toppat Prince, which set in motion a war between the kingdom of Governia, led by King Galeforce, and the Toppat Kingdom, led by King Reginald. It was finished on October 22, 2020.
Part 2 continues the story of Part 1 and reveals the true backstory of Prince Charles, as well as the history of King Galeforce and Dungeon Master Dmitri. Unlike the first story, it was left unfinished since November 6, 2022, but magically returned on October 14, 2023, with the author expressing the desire to finish the story before officially moving on to other projects.
This fic provides examples of the following tropes:
- Adopted into Royalty: Both Charles and Henry were adopted into Governia and the Toppat Kingdom respectively by Galeforce and Reginald, making them princes.
- Alternate Universe Fic: It is set in a universe resembling the Middle Ages.
- Anti-Villain: King Reginald, and the Toppat Kingdom as a whole. They want to kidnap Prince Charles but only because they genuinely think Prince Henry, whom they love, was taken by Governia.
- Arranged Marriage: The parents of Princess Ellie were planning to do this with their daughter, prompting her to run away and seek shelter at Governia. They give up on it in the end when it turns out that every candidate was trying to destroy their kingdom.
- Big Bad: Dungeon Master Dmitri is the one responsible behind the disappearance of Prince Henry, which drives the plot of the first story.
- Breaking the Fourth Wall: Prince Charles does this in Chapter 6 of the first story.Princess Ellie: There it is. The Wall. It is under maximum security. No one gets in, no one gets out.Prince Charles: Yeah, we heard that a few chapters ago.
- The Caligula: King Terrence, who's the worst known king in the setting as a whole.
- Distressed Dude: Prince Henry is captured and held by The Wall. Prince Charles also ends up getting captured when he goes with Ellie to save Henry.
- The Dragon: Grigori is the main assistant of Dmitri.
- Enemy Mine: Felix and Lupin put aside their rivalry to team up and save Henry together, then have a fair fight to decide who marries him.
- Feuding Families: Both the royalty of Governia and the Toppat Kingdom, which doesn't allow Henry and Charles to marry at first.
- The Good King: Most of the kings are benevolent. Only exception is the previous Toppat King, King Terrence, who was a tyrant.
- Greater-Scope Villain: Tyrant King Terrence is responsible for the near extinction of Ellie's family, leaving her as the only princess and thus requiring an Arranged Marriage, as well as the death of Charles' parents, leading to his adoption by Galeforce and Dmitri.
- Hero Killer: Dmitri and Grigori managed to defeat the three Chaos Kingdom guards who came to defend Henry, Ellie, Charles, Felix and Lupin from the Wall.
- Historical AU: The story takes place in medieval times.
- It's Not You, It's Me: Rupert reciprocates Dave's feelings for him, but as a royal guard, having a relationship with a commoner could end with him losing his job that he's doing to support his family.
- Rebellious Princess: Princess Ellie runs away from home when it's decided that she should be ruler due to being the only surviving princess of the family from King Terrence's massacre, and she's due to marry someone arranged.
- Shout-Out:
- Felix's horse is named Gaston.
- His kingdom is called The Aces.
- Annasole, Princess Ellie's kingdom, is a anagram for Soleanna, the kingdom from Sonic the Hedgehog (2006).
- In Part 2, The Storyteller refers to Charles as "The Prince Who Lived".
- Star-Crossed Lovers: Rupert and Dave, due to their different social standing.
- Villainous Legacy: King Terrence, the previous Toppat King, is long dead by the time the series start, but his past actions shape some of the present events.
