Grogar: A Hearth's Warming Horror Story is a fimfiction written by Jade Ring. Inspired by the 2015 movie Krampus, it features Grogar as the Big Bad and the stand in for Krampus. It can be read on Fimfiction here.

  • Adaptational Villainy: Of all versions of Grogar, canon or fanfiction, this is undoubtedly one of, if not the, worst. A cruel, sadistic, murderous and treacherous Evil Sorceror who preys on and revels in misery and disharmony, Grogar stalks the land every Hearth's Warming Eve to kill those who lose their faith in the spirit of Hearth's Warming and transform them into his undead minions, along with everyone else who happens to be in the area. In this story, he kills Big Mac, Granny Smith, Silver Spoon, Scootaloo, and Marble Pie without mercy or remorse. Then, he kills Applejack after making a deal with her to spare her sister, Apple Bloom, in return, a promise he immediately breaks. Arguably worst of all, Grogar freezes all of Ponyville and kills all the inhabitants. And in the sequel, it is revealed that not only did he sacrifice the entirety of his own race just to make himself immortal, but he also plans to trap the entire world in an Endless Winter so he can rule over it forever.
  • And I Must Scream: In the sequel, Apple Valley, it is revealed that this is what Grogar did to the inhabitants of Ponyville; not only did he transform them into undead, permanently grinning and crying ghouls like the other ponies he takes, but he rendered them all invisible and left them at their ruined home; only ever manifesting on Hearthswarming Eve.
  • Bag of Kidnapping: Grogar carries around a magical sack to stuff his victims into.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: Downplayed: Grogar is forcibly sent back to Tambleon for another year and is unable to claim Applebloom, Diamond Tiara, Button Mash, or Sweetie Belle. However, he does manage to turn Ponyville into a frozen wasteland and kill all of its' inhabitants.
  • Black Cloak: Unlike his canon version, Grogar wears one.
  • The Bully: Silver Spoon. She pays dearly for it.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Granny Smith encountered Grogar in her youth: He took her best friend, Pumpkin Patch, after she had a fight with her one Hearth's Warming Eve. The encounter still haunts her to this day.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Upon seeing Ponyville is now a frozen wasteland and all its inhabitants gone, all four foals break down in their own way:
    • Button Mash faints.
    • Sweetie Belle runs to the town.
    • Apple Bloom goes insane.
    • Diamond Tiara wails in grief.
  • Endless Winter: Grogar inflicts this upon Ponyville, and in the sequel, it is revealed he plans to do this to the rest of Equestria.
  • Evil Is Deathly Cold: Grogar is described as being accompanied by cold and darkness, and can summon blizzards, make already howling blizzards even worse, and turn populous towns into frozen wastelands.
  • Expy: Grogar is this for Krampus.
  • First Kiss: Sweetie Belle and Button Mash have this in chapter 2.
  • Gruesome Goat: Even more so than in canon. Grogar is a fearsome, demonic Evil Sorceror ram who kills ponies and turns them into his undead servants, and turns populous towns into frozen wastelands.
  • Hero Killer: Applejack gives herself up to Grogar in-exchange for sparing Diamond Tiara and Apple Bloom. By the end of the story; it's revealed that the other Element-Bearers were also taken by Grogar.
  • Hope Spot: After Grogar's defeat, the foals, while traumatized by the night's events, are looking forward to reuniting with their remaining family members in Ponyville...only to find that Ponyville has been turned into a frozen wasteland and all of its inhabitants have been taken by Grogar.
  • I Lied: A non-verbal example: When Applejack offers herself to Grogar in return for him sparing her sister, Grogar silently agrees, but as soon as he magically shrinks and imprisons Applejack in his Bag of Kidnapping, he goes back on his end of the bargain and tries to kill her sister too.
  • Necromancer: Grogar is this, as he kills ponies and then turns them into his undead servants.
  • Official Couple: Sweetie Belle and Button Mash become one in chapter 2.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Grogar is described as having red eyes that "burn like hot coals."
  • Senseless Sacrifice: Applejack willing to give herself over to Grogar in exchange for him not taking Diamond and Apple Bloom. Not only is Grogar beaten by the pair unlocking the Magic of Friendship a few minutes later, but that it was almost time for the Sun to rise thus sending Grogar back to Tambelon.
  • Take Me Instead: In the final chapter, Applejack makes a deal with Grogar to spare her sister, Apple Bloom and take her; Grogar doesn't keep his side of the deal.
  • The Voiceless: Though he does laugh, chuckle, growl, and roar a few times, Grogar never says a single word throughout the story.
