The Avengers' Chicago Branch has been established and the crisis of the Fourth of the July is in the past. Chicago is slowly getting back to normal, but being a hero in the Windy City is still busy work. And that's also the case for Michiru "Dr. Shikigami" Kururugi.
Dr. Shikigami has been given a special assignment by Mari "Captain America" Makinami; to grow a senzu plant for the Extraordinary Avengers. However, even for someone bearing the title of Sorcerer Supreme, growing one of these mystical plants is easier said than done.

This story has the following Tropes:
- Airvent Passageway: It's tried, but the Monster filled them first.
- Appropriated Appellation: The titular name for the Senzu plant is just something that Sokka said sarcastically in passing while the Avengers were dealing with its infestation. The name just happened to stick, to Michiru's annoyance.
- Background Magic Field: Xanth has one of significant strength, boosting Michiru's powers beyond his control.
- Be Careful What You Wish For: Mari made it clear to Dr. Shikigami that she wanted him to grow a big senzu plant that would produce lots of beans. He succeeded.
- Chick Magnet: Michiru mentally lampshades how alts of him tend to have a lot of feminine attention. In addition to his relationship with Nova Sango and a more humanoid Kirara, his musing has him citing an alt of him that was granted the powers of Thor who married his world's Urd, Peorth, and Lind, and his Shikigami Ranger alt's massive harem.
- Clothing Damage: Washu's clothes are rags by the time the battle with the Monster is over.
- Dark and Troubled Past: Yamcha/Werewolf By Night's past is extremely bad, to the point that Korin instantly changes his mind about the senzu plant after seeing what happened in his world when they lost it and didn't have a backup.
- Day in the Limelight: This story focuses entirely on Michiru "Dr. Shikigami" Kururugi and his efforts to grow a senzu plant.
- Does Not Know His Own Strength: When in Xanth, the Background Magic Field means that Michiru's already prodigious magical strength is amplified to the point that when a shadow clone of him casts his weakest attack spell, it becomes an incredibly destructive blast that blows up and melts a group of trees.
- Expy/Shout-Out: The moment where Mari screws up the spell completely wouldn't look out of place in an episode of Dexter's Laboratory.
- Gone Horribly Right: Trope invoked by name when Mari sees the results of Michiru's experiment that she had accidentally tampered with.
- Green Thumb: Turns out the Michiru has considerable talent for plants, and has a garden filled with all sorts of unusual ones gathered from across the Core Timeline.
- Heel–Face Turn: Michiru goes to meet a Poison Ivy alt who had one in Gotham, but a villainous alt takes her place.
- Hulking Out: Washu uses some Popeye 'verse spinach to do this when the Monster erupts.
- Late-Arrival Spoiler: Mari's conversation with her Uncle Steve drops several large spoilers for "Rise".
- Me's a Crowd: Michiru knows the Shadow Clone Jutsu, which he uses to gather what he needs all at once.
- No Kill like Overkill: Michiru travels all over Coreline to find the perfect fertilizers for the senzu plant, then combines them into one mix. He lampshades this later, asking Mari to stop him in the future if he ever tries throwing his most powerful stuff at a new plant he's trying to grow right from the start.
- No Plans, No Prototype, No Backup: Lampshaded with the senzu plant. Despite how useful the beans were, only two existed, both alternate versions of the same plant.
- Place of Power: Xanth. Even a shadow clone, with a fraction of his full strength, is so boosted that Michiru's least powerful attack spell obliterates a copse of trees.
- Reed Richards Is Useless: Michiru is doing his best to avert this, though the trope name is mentioned.
- Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Mana and Michiru vamoose when an ogre shows up while they're collecting dragon dung in Xanth. This for good reason. Not only are Michiru's powers too boosted to be controllable (see Does Not Know His Own Strength entry), but the typical Xanthian ogre is incredibly strong, extremely stupid, ugly enough to curdle milk by scowling at it, and has a nasty habit of crunching the bones of any monsters or people he might find.
- Spanner in the Works: When Mari gets too close to the newly sprouted senzu plant, her shield causes the spells on the senzu plant to boost out of control.
- Squishy Wizard: Turns out that Michiru is an aversion, as he uses his magic to exercise his muscles and is thus in good shape. And if that isn't enough, especially if he's facing super-humanly tough enemies, just look at the Super-Strength entry below.
- Super-Strength: Michiru knows a variation of the binding spell, Crimson Bands of Cyttorak. This allows him to temporarily take on the power of Cyttorak. As in the same entity whose ruby empowers Juggernaut. A Poison Ivy alt and her Bane puppet find this out to their dismay when he visits Gotham.
- Take That!: A meta reason for the senzu plant being grown is the author's dislike for how no one's ever grown more than one plant despite how insanely useful they can be.
- Underestimating Badassery: A Poison Ivy alt expects Michiru to be another Squishy Wizard. Oh, how wrong she is...
- You Don't Want to Know: In order to convince Korin to teach them how to grow senzu plants, Yamcha demands that Korin read his mind to see what happened when they lost the senzu plant in his native universe. After Korin does so, he is so horrified that Yajirobe demands to know just how bad it could possibly be. Korin tells Yajirobe that he should pray he never finds out how bad.
- Michiru does this to himself after briefly wondering how his Ranger alt keeps up with his harem.
