Cult Of Squid is a fanfiction of the show SpongeBob for the SpongeBob Fanon Wiki. Created on July 18th, 2018, by wiki user Locknloaded23, the show revolves around a dangerous cult set in Bikini Bottom (literally just called "The Cult"), led by Squidward Tentacles (called Brother Squidward by the Cult) as they struggle to maintain power in Bikini Bottom. Their rival group, called "The Feathered Friends," consisting of SpongeBob, Patrick, Plankton and Mr. Krabs, try to stop the Cult by any means necessary, though as the show continued on, an alliance was formed between the two groups. The show is heavily based off the season 6 episode of the original show, Cephalopod Lodge, wherein Squidward was a member of the "Cephalopod Lodge."

As the show continued, The Cult struggled more and more to maintain their power over Bikini Bottom, until in season 3 of the show, they lose their control and are locked away in the dungeon of King Neptune; However, Squidward summons the dark lord himself, Satan, to help him redo all the mistakes he made in the past, but when Squidward finds out that Satan demands his soul in return, the Cult make a very dangerous enemy.

At first, the show took an unremarkable approach to the concept and instead being written out like a child's bad fanfiction (Locknloaded23 was 13 years old when they began writing the show), but as it progressed, it took a more story-heavy approach, with overarching storylines and characters eventually coming to face the consequences of their own actions. Because of this, the show has become a fan-favorite among users of the wiki.

The show is written by wiki users Locknloaded23 and Purple133; Purple133 was brought onto the show on season 3, until eventually being given ownership after season 3 concluded.

The show can be read here.

Cult Of Squid provides examples of

  • Air Quotes: Played with in Neptune Trials:
Noseward: (stands up) uh, anyway- your honor, my client has been accused of (repeatedly bends nose) “taking over the sea without permission.” (stops)
Neptune: what are you doing with your- er- nose?
Noseward: I'm trying to make air quotes. It's kinda hard when you have 0 fingers.
  • The Alcatraz: The Cult get locked away in the dungeon of King Neptune at the end of season 3 and start of season 4. Squidward escapes by traveling to the past to correct his errors.
  • Are You Sure You Can Drive This Thing?: Squidward to Crayons in Kelp Forest.
  • The Artifact: The first season of the show is written entirely different from all the rest, and is more like a child's attempt at a fanfiction.
  • Ascended Extra: Doctor Crayons was originally only supposed to make a few appearances in the show as the Cult's resident doctor in the first season, however he soon not only became the Cult's main inventor, but also one of the main characters of the show.
  • Attack Backfire: In season 4, Squidward and The Cult attempt to take over Hell itself; this backfires, and only angers Satan even more.
  • Ax-Crazy: Satan shows little to no remorse for any of the harm he causes onto the Cult or any of their adversaries; in fact, he enjoys it.
    • Brother Squidward himself was originally portrayed as this, as he calls for the execution of several residents of Bikini Bottom, however he slowly began to develop a sense of morality.
  • Bad Future: Security is shown visions of his (and the Cult's) inevitable future all throughout season 4 and 5.
  • Back from the Dead: Squidward is briefly killed off in the first part of the 3-part season 2 story arc Krusty Komrades, but is revived by the Cultists in the 3rd part.
  • Backfire on the Witness Stand: The 5th episode of season 2, Neptune Trials, has this constantly; characters will go up to the witness stand and make absolutely stupid claims that end up hurting Squidward's case.
Neptune Guard: you see, your honor, this man clearly has no idea what he's saying.
  • Berserk Button: Squidward will become fueled with rage when he starts losing.
  • Big Bad: The main villain of the show frequently changes as the show goes on.
    • To a lesser extent, Zomp can be seen as the main villain of season 3, although he doesn't do much.
    • Seasons 1, 2 and 3 showed The Cult as the villains of the show, until they started fighting for the greater good.
    • Seasons 4 and 5 had Satan himself as the main villain. Squidward summons him to undo his past mistakes at the cost of his soul, but when he refuses, Satan vows to end the Cult. Overtime, however, his motives become more and more sinister, until eventually he uses The Cult as a vessel to bring about the end of the world.
  • Bond One-Liner: The villains Squidward goes up against will often say these.
  • Call-Back: In the later seasons, the characters will bring up events from prior episodes.
  • Courtroom Episode: Season 2's Neptune Trials.
  • Cliffhanger: Usually, the penultimate episode of any given season will end on this.
  • Cold Open: The Possession is one of the few episodes of the entire show to have one.
  • Crazy-Prepared: Doctor Crayons is shown to have a wide arsenal of weapons suitable for just about any occasion necessary.
  • Darkest Hour: Season 5 of the show depicts The Cult in their most hopeless state.
  • Demoted to Extra: The Initiator got hit with this HARD. Who once was one of the top members of The Cult in season 1, Initiator would soon be made left out of episodes for extended periods of time, usually only showing up to make a joke about how he is never present in the episodes, then leaving. However, seasons 4 and 5 began using him a lot more as a main character, revealing why exactly he was absent for extended periods of time, until his death in season 5.
  • The Ditz: Patrick, at least at first.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: The first season of the show hardly even resembles what the show would later become. In this first season, Squidward has to get over his crippling addiction to Canned Bread.
  • Episode Title Card: Every episode has a titlecard made by Purple133.
  • Evil Feels Good: Early on, Squidward embraces being the most evil person in Bikini Bottom. Hell, these were his first words ever spoken on the show:
    Squidward: Bow to me!
  • Failure Is the Only Option: When The Feathered Friends were the Cult's main rivals, they never succeeded in their goals.
  • Fire Means Chaos: During the apocalypse.
  • Hat of Authority: Squidward's Cult hat is shown to be a dominating sign of his authority.
