Clashing Lives of a Villainess is a My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! fanfic by JustSomeNPC.

When an experiment with a translocation portal goes wrong, Katarina Claes and Maria Campbell end up in Japan, planet Earth; the world of Katarina's former life.

The fic is hosted on AO3.

This fanfic contains examples of:

  • Ascended Extra: Katarina's family from her previous life have a large role in the story, and are given full names.
  • Back from the Dead: In a way, or indirectly. From the perspective of her family from her past life, Katarina, being the reincarnation of Chihiro Yamane with full cognizance of her past life, is essentially their lost daughter and sister returned from her passing in a traffic accident.
  • Big Damn Reunion: In chapter 6, Katarina's mother, father and oldest brother from her last life comes over for dinner at her other brother Koji's place, who have met up with Katarina earlier. By sharing some stories and knowledge from her past life, Katarina convinces them that she is Chihiro Yamane reborn, and the family reunite, her mother especially having a strong reaction over her return.
  • The Cameo:
    • When they first arrive in Japan, Katarina and Maria encounter Kyoko and Misako from River City Girls, who at first mistake the pair for Fortune Lover cosplayers. In a side scene, Kyoko and Misako talk about the encounter with Hasebe and Mami, who make fun of their belief that the pair they encountered might instead have been the characters in real life. Hasebe and Mami would later stumble upon Katarina and Maria, realizing the ones they mocked before were actually right.
    • When spending time in an arcade, Maria is given romantic advice about Katarina by a forty-year old version of Haruo from High Score Girl, who is spending time in the same arcade with Akira.
  • Costume-Test Montage: When the girls go shopping for clothing due to their regular outfits not being suited for modern day Japan, they spend time trying on various outfits and commenting on them in order to come to a decision on what to wear.
  • Covert Pervert:
    • Hearing Katarina's words about how ridiculous she'd look like dressed as Mai Shiranui, Maria imagines Katarina dressed as such, also performing Mai's victory poses.
    • Later that day Katarina tries a bikini and shows it to Maria, who is overwhelmed by the view and passes out, even showing a certain lustful sign.
  • Entertainingly Wrong: after being told by Maria that she's not in love with Prince Jeord and neither is he with her, the Katarina Council start brainstorming what this means for their future and if there's someone occupying Jeord's heart. They conclude that Jeord is in love with Anne.
  • Everyone Can See It: Haruo, Katarina's brother and Katarina's parents can see that Maria is in love with Katarina.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Katarina found out that her villainous game counterpart had a redemption arc, being a playable heroine in Fortune Lover 5.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: When Kyoko and Misako mention their encounter with Katarina and Maria, Hasabe and/or Mami suggest they should spend some time without video games, otherwise they "will end up believing that you will go to another world if you are hit by a truck,” i.e. why Hamefura, and by extension, this work, began in the first place.
  • Mutually Fictional: This trope is discussed when Maria noticed Chihiro/Katarina's copy of Fortune Lover. Koji hypothesized this: the two universes Katarina lived in are parallel universes that are equally real but show up in the other universe as mere fiction. This is collaborated by Maria, as she happened to have read a fantasy novel in Sorcier that is a historically accurate account of Napoléon Bonaparte. invoked
  • Named by the Adaptation
    • Katarina's identity in her previous life, which remained unnamed in My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!, is given the name Chihiro Yamane.
    • Her older brothers from her past life are also given names, the oldest Shinji Yamane, the other Koji Yamane. (Their parents share the same last name.)
  • Oblivious to Love: Katarina as per usual. At the end of the story, Maria spells out her feelings for Katarina to her using otome game terms she learned during their visit to Japan. The story ends before we can read Katarina's reaction.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • When Maria uses a spell on Katarina, Kyoko and Misako to allow Maria speak Japanese, Katarina reacts this way on recognizing what Maria's up to and Kyoko and Misako stare in shock after the spell is finished...and run away screaming!
    • This is Katarina's response when Maria finds Katarina's copy of Fortune Lover in the Shrine to the Fallen.
  • Out-of-Context Eavesdropping: Waking up and hearing the sounds her brother and Maria make while playing video games, Katarina mistakes the situation for something else and rushes into the living room yelling at her brother not to take advantage of Maria. When she realizes she misunderstood, she promptly goes red.
  • Reunion Vow: While Katarina and Maria arrived in Japan by accident, and they aren't sure if they magic that sent them there can be replicated in the future after they return to Sorcier, Katarina makes it clear that she hopes they will be able to, and that they will be able met again in the future.
  • Second Coming: Katarina returning to Japan enables her to meet up with her past life family and allows her to heal some of their emotional wounds her past life death caused them, making them better off afterwards than they were before her visit, not unlike how she made her friends lives better back in Sorcier. She even takes time to help Hiroshi Takeda, the man who accidentally ran her over in traffic, to overcome his guilt and depression at killing her.
  • Shrine to the Fallen: Koji keeps a shrine of his deceased sister. He even put the video games she used to play—including Fortune Lover—on it.
  • Something Only They Would Say: In order to convince her brother from her past life of her identity as his reborn little sister, Katarina tells a story only they two know about, involving a lizard.
  • Switching P.O.V.: Like the source work, every chapter of Clashing Lives involves POV switching. These are mostly between Katarina and Maria, but also include other characters.
  • The Voiceless: Akira still doesn't talk.
  • What the Hell, Hero?:
    • Maria calls out Katarina for assuming that Katarina would end up dead or exiled like in the game, the fact that Katarina could stay positive (to which Katarina responds by saying it was all she could do) and finishes up by telling Katarina how much she matters to Maria. Katarina apologizes for not having realized this and promises she and Maria will always remain friends.
    • Katarina's parents try this on her after she reveals she needs to go back but Katarina explains she has friends and family in her other world and she is legally dead in this world.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Katarina discovers she has developed a phobia of motor vehicles due to having been killed by one in her previous life.
  • You Can't Go Home Again: While Katarina has managed to return to Japan accidentally, allowing her to visit her past life family, when her brother asks whether she will return to Sorcier or stay in Japan, Katarina says that this is no longer her world, and that she has a family in Sorcier she cannot abandon. She also points out, that legally speaking, she doesn't exists on Earth and technically would be an illegal immigrant. Her old identity is literally and legally dead and only exists in memory now.
  • You Watch Too Much X: When Kyoko and Misako mention their encounter with Katarina and Maria, Hasabe and/or Mami suggest they should spend some time without video games.
