The Bruh Guides are a series of short guides to the X-COM games created by Reddit user SidewinderSerpent. They're characterized by comedic writing, listing of an enemy's abilities, and a trio of rankings: Pain, Tank, and Bruh. So far, he has done guides for the enemies of XCOM: Enemy Unknown, and the enemies, character classes, dark events, and Chosen of Xcom 2, with a list of guides to the items in the works. The full list can be found on SidewinderSerpent's user page.
A list of the tropes appearing within the Bruh Guides
- 420, Blaze It: The Archon King's upgraded Blazing Pinions are referred to as such.
- Broke the Rating Scale: The Alien Hunters guides extend to five levels of Pain, Tank, and Bruh, rather than only three.
- Bystander Syndrome: When fighting Berserkers and Gatekeepers, a good strategy is to stay away and let the enemies kill each other.
- Call-Forward: The Gatekeeper guide says that they didn't need a five-year vacation in a Psionic gateway to go insane.
- Comedic Sociopathy:
- One of the Hunter's weaknesses is listed as Gravity, with the description reading, "Watching people take fall damage is really funny"
- Defeat Equals Explosion: Any enemy that blows up upon death has the ability referred to as such.
- Everyone Has Standards: The Avatar guide lists constriction as a viable strategy, following a groan.
- Mook Horror Show: The guides to the XCOM 2 classes are done from the aliens' perspective.
- Running Gag: In the XCOM 2 guides, each ADVENT unit has their weapon named differently.
- Shout-Out:
- The XCOM 2 Muton guide starts with, "EU Mutons that are faster, better, stronger!"
- The Assassin's Mountain Mist is described as "Tossing a grenade full of pocket sand at some enemies"
- Additionally, Bending Reed reads, "After performing a melee attack, Naruto-run outta this place real fast.
- The Andromedon guide starts with "OH YEAAHH! Here comes the Andromedon, busting through a brick wall to get at your soldiers!", just like the Kool-Aid Man.
- Snakes Are Sexy: Defied. SidewinderSerpent starts the Viper guide with "Okay, we get it. Snakes Are Sexy", then later, in regards to the Crush and Bind so often depicted by the greater fandom as seductive, he says, "I need to remind you this kills people"
- Suspiciously Specific Denial: The Viper King guide says, "No, they are not wielding a blue magnetic Bolt Caster".
- Title Drop: The Chosens' random weaknesses and perks are called Enemy Unknown.
- Video Game Flamethrowers Suck: Said word-for-word in the Purifier guide, alongside a Pain of one half and a Bruh of one.
- Walking Spoiler: The Avatar guide is spoilered because of its status as one.
- Weak Turret Gun: The turrets' Bruh is listed as a whopping one half.
- We Have Reserves: The Chosens' Summon abilities say, "Summon some fucking idiots to go die"
