Blind Truth is a Pokemon fanfic by Reading Fenatic.
It stars a young Aura Adept, Jenny, who suffered from a troubled childhood. Left by her apathetic partying mother in the care of criminals, she is force to work in their illegal pokemon breeding camp (located in the Orange Islands) since she was six years old, where she users her unique gift to bond with the pokemon there.She is taught the ways of Aura by an elderly Lucario who is present at the camp.
When she turned eight however, she bonded with a pregnant Ninetales and helped it deliver its children. Sadly the Ninetales expired and the criminals running the camp slated the children to be kill, deeming them weak. The night before they are set to be killed,Jenny escapes with the eggs and is met by Slowking. Guided by the Slowking to a town, she slowly begins to find her place and tries to figure out her destiny as an Aura user...

- Abusive Parents:The criminals running the camp are effectively Jenny's parental figures and treat her more like a maid, forcing her to perform unpaid labor for them and beating her for petty reasons, such as, in their eyes, failing at her jobs.
- Jenny's mother counts as well. While she was not physically abusive, she cared nothing for her daughter, often dumping her in the care of random people she hooked up with before finally abandoning her ot her criminal friend, who in turn treated her like crap. Any mother willing to abandon their child to the clutches of abusive criminals to be used as a servant is definitely this trope.
- Dark and Troubled Past: As detailed above, Jenny spent her earlier childhood after her grandmother passed away drifting from home to home as her mother dumped her on random people she hooked up with in order to go party. Her mother cared nothing for her and eventually dumped her into the care of her abusive criminal ex-friend, Gary, who used Jenny as child labor since she was only six. The other criminals at the camp mistreated her and beat her at times as well. Finally, she was forced to flee one night with the Vulpix eggs she was trying to save and had to endure harsh conditions at sea for days before finally getting help; while she was only eight.
- Parental Neglect: Jenny's mother showed her little in the way of affection, was near completely apathetic to her daughter, pulled her out of the preschool Jenny's grandmother put her in, and mainly just dumped her on friends so she could go party as often as she could. She eventually just outright abandons Jenny to be used as labor in Gary's illegal breeding camp.
- Parental Substitute: The elderly Lucario in the breeding camp Jenny was living at more or less raised her more than the criminals running the joint did. He even taught her about Aura. Nurse Joy and Slowking become like in chapters 4 onward after she escapes and gets help.
- Raised By Grand Parents: Downplayed. Jenny was raised by her grandmother until the age of three, when her grandmother sadly passed away due to heart failure; which caused custody of Jenny to fall to her apathetic mother. Her grandmother was the only (human) guardian of her earlier childhood who showed her love and affection.
- Social Services Does Not Exist: Justified. Jenny's mother pulled her out of preschool and dumped her daughter on random 'friends' so often, it was almost a daily basis. It noted that because of how well-traveled the island they were on, Kumquat, was, the death of Jenny's registered guardian, and how often she was moved between different houses or apartments, Jenny easily slipped through the cracks and sadly avoided the notice of any social workers.
- The Empath: Jenny's Aura abilities have shades of this. She can sense her surroundings and she attempted to use a soothing Aura on the pregnant Ninetales in chapter two, which was intended to calm her down. Though it did not work in this case, it hints that she has done it before and was capable of affecting the emotions of others to an extent.
