Big Brother Blues
is a Total Drama fanfic by SideshowJazz1. In an AU, Melisa Burromuerto is Alejandro's sister and the youngest in her family, four years younger than Alejandro. They have always been very close, each other's only confidant. When Alejandro embarks on Total Drama World Tour, Melisa watches the show, and she sees a different side...that makes her start to wonder how well she really knows her favourite brother.
This fanfic contains examples of:
- Alternate Universe Fic: In this story, Alejandro never gets singed by the volcano and thrown into a robot suit for two years, and participates on The Ridonculous Race with his sister.
- Annoying Younger Sibling: Melisa can stray into this territory when she argues, as none of her brothers have ever won an argument against her.
- Anti-Villain: Alejandro is portrayed this way. Despite his reprehensible actions on World Tour, he is still genuine in his love for his sister and fully admits that his actions on the show were evil, even if they were simply just out of a determination to win the game.
- Big Brother Worship: Melisa's relationship with Alejandro. However, his time on World Tour causes her to reevaluate some things.
- Break the Cutie: Watching the whole of World Tour is this for Melisa. She's never seen Alejandro acting the way he does in the show and is horrified.
- Broken Pedestal: Melisa's adoration for Alejandro deteriorates into horror and distrust for him as she witnesses her brother's villainous actions and dialogue on World Tour. Alejandro's attempts to regain her trust become the focus of the story once the season ends.
- Brother–Sister Team: Invoked when Melisa and Alejandro are signed up for The Ridonculous Race, but were unofficially this before.
- Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Alejandro cares very deeply for his younger sister and asks for her forgiveness in regards to his actions on World Tour.
- Hated by All: Due to her older brother's infamous reputation, virtually all of the first-generation contestants are extremely suspicious or contemptuous of Melisa and dismiss her when she tries to make some small talk with them during the reunion party.
- I Did What I Had to Do: Alejandro defends his actions on World Tour as such, noting that his destruction of Team Victory was simply him taking down what he believed to be the strongest team in the game.
- Manipulative Editing: Alejandro blames this for how he was portrayed on Total Drama World Tour. He also tells Melisa that some of the contestants were actually less eccentric off-camera than on-camera.
- Not So Above It All: The second part of the story, where Melisa and Alejandro compete in The Ridonculous Race. Melisa begins to realize what it feels like to always be scared of losing.
- Pet the Dog: Heather is much less hostile to Melisa than she normally is around others, although still not extremely friendly.
- Rebuilt Pedestal: Alejandro tries to fix his image in Melisa's eyes by being honest with her about his performance on World Tour. It almost works, but Melisa feels that she still can't trust him completely, due to all the lying and backstabbing she saw.
