Go To

An Owl's Beacon sees Team RWBY scattered across the Boiling Isles due to an Atlas experiment with Titan's Blood gone wrong, forcing them to try and find a way home.

This fanfic provides examples of:

  • And This Is for...: Yang uses Time Dilation and her Semblance to deal a beatdown to Warden Wrath, punctuating her blows with statements to this effect, the last and most brutal one being for Ruby.
  • Badass Cape: Amity sure thinks so of Ruby's, having tried it on before Ruby woke up after landing in her room.
  • Batter Up!: Since Ruby lost Crescent Rose when she landed in the Isles, when she comes to Yang's rescue during her fight with Warden Wrath she uses a baseball bat with glyphs cards attached to it.
  • Cuteness Proximity: Predictably, Luz gushes over Zwei's cuteness upon meeting him.
  • Dramatic Irony: For some time, only the audience is aware that Ruby and Luz are from two entirely different worlds, with the characters making Entertainingly Wrong conclusions as a result.
    • Weiss runs, dropping her Scroll, when she ends up in the library and sees a shadowy figure, and ends up hiding in Amity's hidden room. The figure was Amity's boss Malphas, and he probably would have helped her if she had just talked to him.
  • Entertainingly Wrong: When Ruby mentions the Grimm, Luz initially assumes she means the Grimm fairy tales instead of soulless monsters.
  • Formula-Breaking Episode: This is...' is a chapter where Luz, Ruby, and Hunter end up swapping around and experiencing the daily life of one of the others, with the notes at the top even noting that it has no connection to the current storyline.
  • Imported Alien Phlebotinum:
    • The plot starts because somehow some Titan's Blood ended up on Remnant, where it was found by Atlas.
    • Dust has been washing up on the Boiling Isles for some time, the locals calling it "elemental spice".
  • I'm Taking Her Home with Me!: After RWBY reunites at the Owl House, Ruby declares that she's adopting Amity, and it's not clear if she and Yang are joking or not.
  • Mythology Gag:
  • Oblivious to Love: This is after the Grom episode, so Amity is seriously crushing on Luz, but neither Luz nor Ruby realize it.
  • Oh, Crap!: Warden Wrath's reaction once Ruby reclaims Crescent Rose, right before she shoots him with a Dust round and knocks him out cold.
  • One Dialogue, Two Conversations: Upon meeting Ruby, Luz tells her what Eda mentioned about how the mythical creatures and fairy tales on Earth originally came from the Demon Realm, and Ruby asks if that includes the Grimm. Luz, assuming that she means the Grimms' fairy tales, says maybe. The narration even lampshades that they're not talking about the same things.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: When Ruby gets Crescent Rose back, about half of the guards at the scene just flee right there. The ones who don't soon regret it.
  • Teleporter Accident: The reason that RWBY and Zwei got sent to the Isles because of a malfunctioning Atlas experiment with Titan's Blood.
  • Trapped in Another World: The premise is that an Atlas experiment malfunctions and strands Team RWBY in the Boiling Isles. Even worse, they're scattered across it in the process. Ruby ends up in Amity's House with Zwei, Weiss in the Bonesborough Library, Blake in the Knee, and Yang practically drops into Warden Wrath's lap.
  • Villain Takes an Interest: The end of Chapter 9 has someone, implied to have nefarious intentions, take notice of team RWBY's actions.
