Didnt Think This Through / Metal Gear: Green

Go To

In times of war and peace, sometimes not thinking things through can be idiotic or downright deadly.

  • Miller buys the nuclear aircraft carrier that the Broker's friend stole (granted, it was given to him for free) with the intent to give Mother Base a nuclear core. As Snake points out, if they remove the nuclear core, then they have a ship that's eternally dry-docked, unable to do anything. And if something goes wrong putting in the Nuclear Core, Mother Base gets nuked. Miller ends up lampshading the trope to himself.
  • The HPSC's plans to claim a nuclear mutant did the attack while amassing 60,000 heroes to get rid of the MSF after getting rid of the Tyrant. The plan expected it to be a one-day battle, not a three-day slog with a lack of supplies, an inability to resupply their forces, or the fact the MSF has a strategy when it comes to powerful heroes as well as air superiority. These factors resulted in the loss of around a third of their forces (with half of them being killed), while the rest were captured and then marked off as dead. This caused many of the prisoners to defect to the MSF. The only reason it didn't end with the HPSC being disbanded was because the HPSC President was forced to make a deal with Snake.
  • The Proxy War with Outer Heaven comes off as a mix of desperation and not fully thought out. The plan was perfect if the nation was a fledgling nation with a largely green army. Not against battle-hardened veterans comprised of soldiers from the 1970s, ex-heroes, ex-villains, and refugees who are willing to fight for the MSF. By the time the USJ attack has come forth, the HPSC has been forced to cut the pay of several agents and many arm depots across Japan have been largely or fully depleted. And since the HPSC can't ask the governments to start building weapon factories without the civilians and heroes becoming suspicious, they effectively locked themselves in an unwinnable war.
  • Played for Laughs when Victoria invites Izuku and Rody for a trip to the Minecraft mines to collect some rare ores and didn't ask when their next training segment was. Victoria immediately felt stupid for forgetting to ask about their next training segment.
  • Likewise, Fudaki's decision to try and take on the Anti-All Might Nomu on his own was met with a few shortcomings. The first is that his Quirk is from his hair and the crackling of electricity is very noticeable, even for a Nomu. Second was that Fudaki was intentionally disobeying orders from two teachers and refused to stick with the students, which is given to improve odds of survival. And lastly, he is a first year with only a week of education in a major hero school, not a seasoned pro. This ends with the Anti-All Might Nomu giving a Cruel and Unusual Death to Fudaki.
  • Shoto's overreliance on the ice side of his Quirk does him no favors in the USJ. His constant repeated usage of ice on the USJ Nomu not only fails due to the Nomu breaking out repeatedly but actively hinders Ocelot's team and All Might trying to handle the situation. Had Ocelot not knocked Kurogiri out beforehand, Kurogiri and Shigaraki would've been able to flee.
  • Bakugou and Kirishima's attempts to help handle the situation throughout the USJ goes sideways for three reasons. 1: Bakugou and Kirishima had rushed a villain and actively forced 13 to not use her Quirk without harming them, causing the spreading and Fudaki's death. 2: When they arrive to detain Kurogiri, Kirishima is quick to point out that Kurogiri is unconscious, causing them to go up against the Anti-All Might Nomu with Shoto offering his 'help'. And 3: While this was a situation they weren't expecting, the problem was that All Might and the Ocelot Unit had been handling it, and the three students were actively hindering any efforts to stop the villains. It took All Might moving them to the stairway to force them to stay out of his way.
    • When Ocelot calls out the three for their Unwanted Assistance, Todoroki opens his mouth to claim they're trying to help, even though their actions endangered everyone at the USJ, and that barring Fudaki, they were lucky their second attempt to help didn't get anyone killed.
  • When Madam President has the press demonize UA for hiring 'villains' to guard UA, Nezu shuts it down with a few Armor-Piercing Responses. She has evidence of their actions... but she cannot release them because it would implicate the HPSC in even worse scandals, up to and including Night Owl's experiments. Because of this, she is left with no choice but to do slanderous hit pieces until another opportunity presents itself.
  • Bakugou attempts to confront and pulverize Akatani as payback for losing to him in the battle trial, despite the fact if caught by a staff member assaulting a teacher or teaching assistant, he would be expelled and blacklisted. Not to mention Akatani was more than capable of taking on the explosive prick by himself. This results in Bakugou being beaten, tied up awkwardly, and then mocked when Akatani said that he still hasn't gotten out of the zip ties that he put on the boy when he claimed he was strong enough to get out of them in full view of Class 1A, destroying his reputation even further.
  • When Bakugou decides to use the heavy hitters to overwhelm Akatani's forces while the weaker ones guarded the humanitarian aid. The plan is straightforward if he was dealing with an imbecile, not a well-trained strategist. This results in him sending the heavy hitters against Cannon Fodder while the well-trained villains overwhelm the weaker heroes and steal the humanitarian aid, causing him to fail the mission.
    • After the trial, he calls Snake a villain to his face, causing all of Class 1A to collectively panic. Bakugou had forgotten that they were in the MSF Command Post on UA, which is where the MSF command has largely taken place. Another thing is that the MSF all have guns, and anyone who's seen them use guns knows they're goddamn fucking painful if shot. And lastly, if Bakugou was right, then he had effectively gotten himself and his class killed from his own pride and stupidity. Luckily for them, Ocelot threatens another week of cleaning duty to get him to back off.
  • All Might invites Melissa up to talk to her about being the possible inheritor of One for All, forgetting that Melissa is chasing another dream of becoming one of the greatest inventors of all time. When she declines and explains her reasoning why, All Might feels like an idiot for forgetting her dreams, but understands why she declined the offer.
  • When Madam President finds out both Razak and Luan have withdrawn their forces due to high casualty numbers and the promised equipment never being enough, she orders Techno to send assassins after the two of them. The problem being that these two control South Africa, Madagascar and Mozambique, as well as whatever lands in nations that were formerly under the dead Tyrant's rule or currently under their rule, and if they die, those factions would either turn on each other, making the situation worse, or defect to the MSF, which also makes the situation worse.
