Web/Fan Comic for the Tabletop RPG "Shaintar".

Unnamed Dwarf Barmaid: "That's how it usually starts. People meet here, have a few drinks, that leads to a few months of horror, and then they meet back here for more drinks."
—>— Web Comic/Voltuh, Strip 1 "Feeya's Intro" Frame 4

This is my Troper Works for my Web Comic "Voltuh", a Fan Comic for the Tabletop RPG "Shaintar". It is currently in the Darth Wiki because my work has not yet been made available to the public. I am the author but someone else is doing the art. As of writing this, the first 40 panels have been written. This comic will become public when the artist finishes those panels.

Tropes used:

    open/close all folders

     A-L
  • An Adventurer Is You: Feeya, Gene Robins, Fumahu, Metal McCleaver, Sablefox, Ness na Niss, Finan, & Foran
    • The Backstabber: Feeya fills this “Melee DPS” role.
    • The Blademaster: Metal McCleaver and Ness na Niss fill this “Melee DPS” role.
    • The Healer: Fumahu is a mixture of all 3 Healer subtypes (Healer Classic, Preemptive Healer, & The Curer).
    • The Meat Shield: Foran fills this “The Tank” role. Metal McCleaver is only a Glacier Waif.
    • The Mitigation Tank: Finan fills this “The Tank” role.
    • The Nuker: Gene Robins fills this “Ranged DPS” role.
    • The Scrapper: Sablefox fill this “Melee DPS” part of An Adventurer Is You.
  • Anthropic Principle: Strip 13, "The Anthropic Principle", invokes this trope.
  • The Bard: Gene Robins is not only the Bard in the group, but can also be classified as the Black & Blue Mage too, pun intended.
  • The Big Guy: Gene Robins is 6' 2'', Ness na Niss (Female) is 7' 0'', Finan is 7' 6'', and Foran is 8' 0''.
  • The Chessmaster: Gene Robin's may be the “Hero” but he is also this, and his sister is exponentially more so!
  • Combat Medic: Besides her healing abilities from being a “Priestess of Light”, Fumahu is also an archer and has a Familiar Soulbright Lyrebird.
  • Dungeon Crawling: Subverted because dungeons are intentionally rare in Shaintar compared to other Tabletop RPG.
  • The Engineer: Metal McCleaver is a Dwarvish Metal Wright that uses his Dwarven Axe as both a weapon and engineering tool.
  • Even the Guys Want Him: Most humans in this world have a 0 Charisma, most half-elf types a 1, and most full elf types a 2. Even though he's a human, Gene Robins has a natural 10 Charisma, and his typical clothes give him a +2.
  • First Town is Voltuh and the comic is named after this town. The comic starts in the year “-2400” but in “2133” the city of Eon is built on top of the ruins of Voltuh, the kingdom is named after both “Eon'Voltuh”.
  • Get on the Boat: Subverted because Shaintar only has 1 continent, although we first meet Foran on a ship fighting off pirates in the 8th strip.
  • It Makes Sense in Context: Drunk female Goblin rogue, guy trying to escape an Inn, a bird rescuing a winged elf, a six foot tall dwarf, a weeping catlike human, a bad-ass giant reptile that is also a Warrior Monk, an Orc taking out Hobgoblins with one hit each, and an Ogre defending a ship from pirates; and that's just the plots of the first 8 strips...
  • Justified Trope: The first strip is intended to have these.
  • Kill It with Fire: The only way in Shaintar to kill some creatures.
  • The Lancer: Sablefox
  • Lampshaded Double Entendre: In the first strip: “It doesn't matter, we all know we're not friends for the food... if you know what I mean.”; then Subverted by “It's because we're all in the same guild, right?”.
  • Lampshade Hanging: The aforementioned “Subverted Lampshaded Double Entendre” is also “Meta Lampshaded Hanged” as a Shout-Out to how The Order of the Stick lampshades Tabletop Games tropes endlessly, more specifically it is a shout out to Strip #546 lampshades Lampshade Hanging by lampshading Lampshade Hanging...
  • The Leader: Gene Robins is the Charismatic Leader.

     M-Z
  • Magnificent Bastard: Gene Robin's may be the “Hero” but he is also this.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Gene Robin's may be the “Hero” but he is also this, and his sister is exponentially more so!
  • Meaningful Name: Metal McCleaver is a Dwarvish Metal Wright that uses his Dwarven Axe as both a weapon and engineering tool.
  • Names to Run Away from Really Fast: Strip 4 has “Punch Thunderarm”
  • The Nice Guy: Fumahu is a “Nice Girl”.
  • Oh, Crap!: Even though not a single word is spoken in all of the second strip, the look on Gene Robin's face after he sneaks out of the Inn only to be stopped by one of his sister's telepathic guards is utterly priceless!
  • Pungeon Master: Or at least I consider my self a wizard a puns, but it's probably because I have a good staff. Mainly my artist, she has the Quick Draw edge. Bard-on my bad puns, sometimes my goblin is half empty, so shanks for bearing with me! (From the author of Voltuh)
  • Quick Nip: Four Quick Nips is how this web-comic starts.
  • Rule of Cool: Strip 8, Foran uses an Ogre Siege Maul to shatter a pirate's cannonball that should have hit him in the face.
  • The Smart Guy: Metal McCleaver repairs their weapons and does anything engineering, Finan has vast knowledge of Battle and War, while Gene knows everything about anything magical.
  • The Trickster: Although “heroes” both Gene and Feeya fit this. With as little as they have in common, they often turn these “skills” on each other.
  • Unstoppable Rage: Foran + Pirates = Berserk Button
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: Finan and Foran, they may be an Orc and an Ogre, but they grey up in the same town and even have similar names. Plus Finan is unusually tall for an Orc, making him closer to Ogre size.
  • Word of God: The author's comments under every comic strip.
  • The X of Y: Strips 9 & 10, "The Faces of Justice" & "The Faces of Vengeance" are also a Shout-Out to Batman The Brave and The Bold - Season 2 Episode 11 - "Chill of the Night".
  • Zombie Advocate:
    • Fumahu is an advocate of the Goblinesh (Goblins, Orcs, and Ogres).
    • Some people thing the Brinchie are related to the demon like Childer, but Gene advocates for Sablefox.
