The Tribes

     Bundala

     Hurulu

Sole Survivor

     Mackenzie Legrand
Tribe: Hurulu
Age: 23
From: Raleigh, North Carolina
Occupation: Tour Guide

Runner-Ups

     Cassandra "Casey" Walters
Tribe: Bundala
Age: 25
From: New Haven, Connecticut
Occupation: Tattoo Artist

     Hermes Wright Ruiz
Tribe: Bundala
Age: 30
From: Albuquerque, New Mexico
Occupation: Swimming Pool Sales

  • The Charmer: One of the reasons he was so threatening. Most of the contestants who've played with him have said that he's very persuasive and likable when he's not shooting a death glare or being stoic.
  • Control Freak: Hermes even lampshades this. He only feels comfortable when he knows everything about a given plan and subtly manipulates his allies into pledging their loyalty.
  • Death Glare: Not intentionally. He just has really intense-looking eyes when he's frustrated.

Jury

     William Kepler
Tribe: Hurulu
Age: 37
From: Santa Monica, California
Occupation: Barista

  • Fat Bastard: By Survivor standards, anyway, where it's very rare for anyone visibly overweight to be cast on the show. Nevertheless, he is a pretty big guy and serves as the season's main antagonist. Lying, cheating, rooting out idols, and blindsiding others mercilessly are among his nefarious deeds.
  • The Gadfly: Kepler developed an over-the-top and wild personality to keep the competition on their toes.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: With William Cook. The pair only formed an alliance because of their shared name. Even still, the two never betrayed each other.
  • Hidden Depths: You wouldn't guess based on appearances, but Kepler is both an Eagle Scout, has a brown belt in Taekwondo, and has a full-time occupation as a barista.
  • Jerk Ass Woobie: He had a tough childhood and was discriminated against for his weight.
  • Last-Name Basis: Similarly to Kelly Wiglesworth/Kelley Wentworth or Ryan Shoulders/Ryan Opray from Cambodia and Pearl Islands respectively, this season had two players with the same name. This time around it was William Cook/William Kepler. As such, both of them are generally referred to by their surnames.
  • Obfuscating Insanity: A part of Kepler's strategy as The Gadfly is to exhaust his opponents by acting as if he had completely lost his mind.
  • Self-Deprecation: No matter how much of an egotistical, backstabbing schemer he is, Kepler pretty much always acknowledges this. When the other castaways begin to target Cook for being hubristic, Kepler jokingly remarks that he's doomed.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: To Casey after the merge. At times it seems more like an Unknown Rival on his part, though.

     Bruno Assadourian
Tribe: Hurulu
Age: 20
From: Spokane, Washington
Occupation: Forensic Scientist

     Reagan Hirsch
Tribe: Bundala
Age: 41
From: Denver, Colorado
Occupation: Sex Ed Teacher

     Nolan Sorensen
Tribe: Hurulu
Age: 26
From: New Orleans, Louisiana
Occupation: Educational Project Manager

  • Ascended Fanboy: One of two superfans of the show this season (the other being Giovanni) who have watched and studied Survivor since their youth. And unlike Giovanni, Nolan makes it pretty far into the game.
  • The Lancer: He serves as Vic's number two vote.
  • Nice Guy: All things considered, he was usually concerned about other people's feelings. When Victoria would try to rub it in Bundala's faces when they'd lose at a challenge, it was Nolan who appeared most apologetic of her behavior. He is also a self-proclaimed Southern gentleman.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: Subverted. He wears glasses every now and then, but he isn't necessarily the brightest bulb.
  • Straight Gay: Both Kaitlyn and Shapiro called him a masculine homosexual, and they wouldn't have been able to tell if Nolan never said anything.

     Victoria Ritter
Tribe: Hurulu
Age: 28
From: Salem, Massachusetts
Occupation: Aspiring Actress

     Angel Chambrot
Tribe: Bundala
Age: 33
From: Queens, New York
Occupation: Landscape Architect

  • Berserk Button: One thing you should know about Angel is that he takes things personally. And we mean, really personally. Hermes leaving Angel out of the majority vote against Frenchie gives the viewers their first real glimpse at Angel in a much less flattering light then he'd been portrayed in up until that point; he holds a stubborn grudge, vowing to determine the people who left him in the dark so that he could promptly get rid of them.
  • The Starscream: To Hermes. His machinations are ultimately undone.

     Yuko Kozakura
Tribe: Hurulu
Age: 29
From: El Paso, Texas
Occupation: Marketing Director

     William Cook
Tribe: Bundala
Age: 35
From: Las Vegas, Nevada
Occupation: Law Clerk

  • The Fundamentalist: He is knowledgeable on a wide number of topics thanks to a long resume of part-time jobs, but when it comes to sexuality Cook is as innocent as a child. He immediately assumes that Nolan and Vic are having sex in the shelter and suggests building a second shelter specifically for them. They, in fact, aren't.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: Subverted. While Cook is the first person to actually admit that he's an arrogant overachiever, in this case he often is the smartest guy in the room. His own ego eventually overshadows his intelligence, however, which results in his elimination.

Voted Out

     Erica Opfer
Tribe: Hurulu
Age: 19
From: Park City, Utah
Occupation: Street Food Vendor

  • Game-Breaking Injury: After stepping on a rock, Erica gets a slice on the bottom of her right foot, which quickly becomes a nasty infection. This results in her medically withdrawing from the game.

     Dana Dishman
Tribe: Bundala
Age: 31
From: Bend, Oregon
Occupation: Nutritionist

  • Alliterative Name: Dana Dishman.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: {[Downplayed}} and somewhat subverted. Dana appears calm and collected, especially in contrast to her fellow castaways, but it always seems that she is profusely irritated about something deep down. So while she never outwardly expresses her anger, it's clear that she does have a temperament.

     Marvin Shapiro
Tribe: Bundala
Age: 52
From: Brea, California
Occupation: Marriage Officiant/Retired Navy

  • Celebrity Resemblance: A Running Gag is that Shapiro bears a striking resemblance to host Jeff Probst himself. Mackenzie even says that he looks like Probst "in about 10 years or so", and when the Bundala tribe host a mock tribal council, Shapiro plays the role of Probst.

     Rachel "Frenchie" French
Tribe: Kakuluwa
Age: 47
From: Tampa, Florida
Occupation: Flight Attendant

  • Cool Old Lady: The oldest woman on the island.
  • Decoy Protagonist: During her time on the show, Frenchie was depicted as one of the more competent players when it comes to legitimate survival skills when dealing with the elements. Her stubbornness and refusal to join any alliances so early on in the game resulted in the first big blindside of the season.
  • Graceful Loser: Took her elimination in stride despite the shock of it.
  • Oh, Crap!: When she realizes that she's about to be voted out.
  • Naked People Are Funny: Quite the opposite. As an exhibitionist on her free time, she doesn't perceive nudity as a sexual thing, but rather thought it was a natural thing. Occasionally Frenchie is off on the other side of the beach, sunbathing topless. Casey joins her every now and then, as well.
  • Verbal Tic: Has a habit of ending her sentences with either "dude" or "man", as if she were a surfing dude-bro.
  • Women Are Wiser: In the first couple of episodes, Frenchie is portrayed as the older person with prudence and sound reasoning, particularly in contrast with Shapiro. She is much more calm and relaxed than many of the other guys as well (Angel and Nolan especially), and she is often seen assessing her fellow castaways and narrating a fair majority of what's going on.

     Kaitlyn Marley
Tribe: Kakuluwa
Age: 24
From: Prescott, Arizona
Occupation: Designer

     Giovanni "Gio" Vinzons
Tribe: Kakuluwa
Age: 25
From: Honolulu, Hawaii
Occupation: Event Planner

     Cyril Barakat
Tribe: Kakuluwa
Age: 22
From: Berkeley, California
Occupation: Art Student

  • Born Unlucky: Cyril claims that he's always had some pretty bad luck, from getting a kidney transplant at an early age to having a bad relationship with his parents. As one might expect, he is also the first person voted off the island.
