"In my lap is an oval mirror with a delicate silver frame, ornate and detailed with flowers—but the glass of the mirror is black. This is a scrying mirror, and it lets me look into another world. The world on the other side of the looking glass is quite different from my own—it's like one side of the mirror is Kansas, and the other side is Oz.
I happen to be on the Oz side."
~Banastre Alister

Monarch is a planned book/series by Turq Dorian A.K.A deathswag. Though it was originally supposed to be a multimedia comic in the style of MSPaintAdventures, deathswag said that 'I would probably be an old curmudgeon by the time I finished if I had to write and draw all that'. Although most of deathswag's ideas are unknown to the public, it is known that the story takes place in Dreamland, where human souls go when they fall asleep.

Dreamland is mostly populated by Figments, which are like humans cast in unusual colors. Each of them has a special power, except for the main character Banastre, something he is frequently Wangsting about to the point where it gets rather irritating. Also living in Dreamland are the much more powerful Trolls, shapeshifting Dragons, and Paradoxes.

This work contains examples of:

  • All Gays Love Theater: a strange exaple with Banastre in that it was probably unintended.
  • Badass Normal: Banastre. Although he's admittedly not badass at all, he's the most normal character in the series - for the most part. Eventually he gets time powers.
    • Carrot Wartooth is just a human, but she got trapped in the Dream Realm (mostly Banastre's fault.) However, she has prodigious strength and a magic hammer that grants her powers over chaos.
  • Bad Boss: Jerzel Inglas, the stage manager of the Bite Me Dream Theater. For some reason, she hates Banastre, who works there as an actor.
  • Camp Straight: Dedwood to some extent. He wears jewelry, he rrrrrolls his rrrrrs, he loves ponies.... and he's straight.
    • Actually, Dedwood has exactly 0 romance moments, so whether or not he's straight is up for debate.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Turris Timshel. When he's first introduced he's a perky "I-love-everything" sort of guy with pink highlights in his hair. Then it turns out he's a completely batshit insane homicidal maniac.
    • Carrot (particularly in her Ego form) to an extent, what with her inhuman strength and chaos hammer, although it's not really Obfuscating Stupidity or genuine stupidity, per se; she's just very random and slightly insane.
  • Hard-Drinking Party Girl: To put it simply, Maybe False has a drinking problem.
  • Lovable Sex Maniac: Maybe False, very, very much. Her defining trait is her lust.
  • The Napoleon: Banastre. He's 5'5" and is called short multiple times (mainly by his boss), and even though it's stated several times that his punches and throws are weak at best, he has a very short temper.
    • Not to mention he has a Napoleon Complex, although he's reluctant to admit it (even to himself). He actually wears a copy of Napoleon's General clothing occasionally, which means it could be a slight case of Napoleon Delusion.
  • Plucky Comic Relief: Carrot, very much so, although she does have a much bigger role in the plot than the average comic relief.
    • Frankie. Oh, Frankie.
  • Ship Tease: Might not count as the ship in question is canon, but Frankie's METAL lullaby for Banastre might qualify.
