Darth Wiki / Gs IST

Go To

Using the Marvel Super Heroes Roleplaying game mechanics from TSR, G's IST is a play-by-post game centering around a group of new recruits from a parallel Earth that join an internationally sanctioned agency for metahumans. Shortly after successfully completing an ambush field ops meeting, the characters woke up from some form of life-support tubes and were forced to escape from their prison. They eventually found out they were pulled into a patchwork world from the Marvel and DC comic universes which was currently under assault by the mechanized collector of realities Magniac.

G'sIST contains examples of:

  • Big Bad: Magniac, who transforms and uploads entire realities into his hard drive to categorize and store. Bonus points for his systems feeding off of the bio-energy of humans as well.
  • Canon Foreigner: The characters, having come from a world where the DC and Marvel universes were just comics and movies.
  • Changing Clothes Is a Free Action: They can shift between "street" wear and their costumes thanks to the symbiotes they wear.
  • Clingy Costume: Gifted by Gene, everyone but Dryad and Psynapse's costumes are actually symbiotes that provide minor healing and mood management.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: Though they definitely signed up for life at IST, the characters' experience escaping Magniac's lair brought them all much closer than they probably would have been if they were just going through basic training like they thought.
  • Hero of Another Story: SHIELD, Captain America, the Alpha Dogs... There are dozens of active super hero groups and teams all working together on Patchwork. Most recently demonstrated when Gorilla Grodd's forces attacked. Some groups were dispatched to contain the situation to the beach where Grodd's forces appeared, Flash went to handle Grodd himself, and the main characters were sent to keep him from kidnapping civilians.
  • La RĂ©sistance: What our heroes become on Patchwork.
  • Latetothe Tragedy: Cine'tica, Legerity, Shadow Kiss, Tech Daddy, and Vixen all wake up from their successful group training mission to discover their world had been invaded and destroyed three years prior.
  • Mark Ofthe Supernatural: All Evos have some distinguishing physical characteristic that marks them.
  • Nanomachines: A scientific accident in the 1950's released mostly harmless nanites into the world. While most of the population was unaffected, some developed super powers. Everyone/thing born is infected by nanites, but only a few manifest powers, usually during adolescence, but periods of high stress can also cause powers to develop.
  • Outside-Context Problem: No one expected Magniac, a sentient machine that harvests realities for energy. Patchwork is all that's left of the various worlds Magniac has uploaded and absorbed.
  • Patchwork World: Invoked in story. The characters find themselves in a universe composed of the remnants of other worlds that survived the multi-versal destruction of Magniac.
  • Personality Powers: The characters seem to have evolved powers based on what they needed most in their lives. Cinetica, for instance, was physically abused and has the power to absorb kinetic energy to strengthen and heal herself. Shadow Kiss was unaware of her boyfriend's true nature and developed the ability to literally see through shadows.
  • Red Pill, Blue Pill: They were offered the chance to go back to being blissfully unaware of their imprisonment by Magniac, but naturally declined the offer.
  • The Something Force: Invoked when the team began thinking of team names.
  • Transhuman: All the characters have been evolved by the benign nanites in their systems.

    Cine'tica
  • Action Girl: Wants to be a cop and has powers that require her to get hit to work.
  • Beauty Is Never Tarnished: Justified by her powers. She absorbs kinetic energy which not only makes her temporarily stronger, but also much more attractive. As such, she becomes more beautiful the longer the fight.
  • Feed It with Fire: Her main power allows her to absorb kinetic energy to strengthen herself.
  • Gratuitous Spanish: Often speaks in both English and Spanish. Her code name is kinetic in Spanish.
  • Healing Factor: Absorbed energy heals her wounds first, before augmenting her physical capabilities.
  • Involuntary Shapeshifting: As a way to channel excess energy absorbed, Cinetica can manifest random extra appendages including large bat-like wings.
  • Most Common Superpower: Played straight in that she does become more attractive based on how much kinetic energy she absorbs.
  • Nigh-Invulnerable: Going head-to-head with her is not very smart, when every punch or kick only makes her stronger.
  • Phlebotinum Overload: If she absorbs too much energy without being unable to redirect it to her other physical stats, she could explode.
  • Rape as Backstory: Was abused as a young child for years.
  • Spicy Latina
  • Super-Strength: The main benefit of her energy absorption.
  • Tomboy

    Dryad

    Legerity
  • Energy Absorption: Can absorb and convert energy into other forms of energy.
  • Elemental Shapeshifting: Of the energy spectrum variety. Seems like as long as he's absorbed the energy he can transform himself into a plasma being reflective of that type.
  • Flight
  • Light 'em Up: His main form of energy is light-based which allows him to play this trope straight.
  • Mr. Fanservice: Before receiving their symbiotes, Sebs would always end up naked after transforming into his energy form.
  • Open Mouth, Insert Foot: His mouth moves faster than his brain does causing him to say things he immediately regrets.
  • Plasma Manipulation
  • Super-Speed: One of the main aspects of his ability to convert himself into light is that he can move himself at high speeds.
  • The Speechless: Has no vocal chords in his energy form, so has to rely on crude signals or just hope the team figures out what it is he's trying to do.

    Psynapse

    Shadow Kiss
  • Bad Powers, Good People: Sweet sorority girl who has control over energy and life force dampening shadows. Shadows that also occasionally reveal the [[Pun dark]] secrets of others.
  • Breakthe Cutie: In her backstory. She found out her boyfriend was the campus's serial rapist, was almost his victim, then manifested her Evo powers almost killing him and freaking out the rest of the campus.
  • Buffy Speak: Does this on occasion, especially when flustered.
  • Casting a Shadow: Can manipulate umbra energy, a form of energy that in high concentrations seems to suppress other energies in the electromagnetic spectrum.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: She's a sweet girl, despite controlling darkness itself.
  • Hidden Depths: Seems shy and reserved, but through some flashbacks and internal monologue, there's more to her story. She was the social chair of her sorority and seems to be afraid of her powers.
  • No Ontological Inertia: Most of the solidified constructs Shadow Kiss makes require some modicum of concentration to maintain.
  • Psychic Powers: More specifically, she can extend her senses of sight and hearing through shadows. This ability doesn't seem to be limited by time or space. And it seems the shadows have a sentience of their own.
  • Selective Obliviousness: If umbra energy is truly an unseen aspect of the EM spectrum, why does it negate the others? And why does it speak to you?

    Tech Daddy
  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!!: Because his brain is always working so fast, he's been shown to get distracted easily with new ideas and theories.
  • Badass Bookworm: Leonard's powers seem to be super human versions of the disciplines he studied in college.
  • Benevolent A.I..: Esmeralda, his virtual "assistant."
  • Friendto All Children: Originally went to school to try to create technology that would help children on the autism spectrum be able to better communicate.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: His background in engineering and computers, mixed with his powers makes him this.
  • MacGyvering: Part of how his powers work. Probably the only reason why the IST let him in the field to begin with. Was introduced turning a light bulb and a bed post into a sleep ray. The gadgets he creates like this have a limited shelf life.
  • Omniglot: Military brat with a love for languages. Studied linguistics in college and boosted to superhuman levels due to his powers.
  • Techno Wizard: Created and grafted an AI inhabited omni-tool to his hand while he was distracted. The party's main tech guy.
  • The Load: Tries his best to subvert this trope. Being one of the only members of the team without any inherently offensive abilities, Leonard can certainly fall victim if he's caught without his equipment and no time to build something new.
