Mary Plantagenet seems to be the standard example of the Princess Classic, albeit a very smart one at that. But after her father, Thomas of Lancaster takes her to Paris in order to be with her as he is sent to command the English troops in France left by Henry V after the Treaty of Troyes. Once in Paris, things start to go wrong as she decides to execute her "plan" that involves killing several noblemen in the line of succession and any witnesses of her scheming in order to become Queen of both England AND France

This work has examples of:

  • Artistic License – History: Thomas of Lancaster never had a daughter or any legitimate children at all. Also obviously every event in the story subsequently never actually happened

  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Mary Plantagenet puts up a picture of a well-mannered and innocent princess but is actually a Serial Killer behind her carefully crafted smile

  • Burn the Witch!: Or rather, burn the heretic. Happens to John of Lancaster after being framed by her sister

  • The Chessmaster: Mary Plantagenet, as she is able to skillfully assassinate everyone without even the slightest of suspicion by everyone. Mostly everyone, to be specific.

  • Child Prodigy: Mary Plantagenet was able to speak full sentences at age 2 and learnt to read and write at age 5. Impressive even by modern standards, much less medival ones

  • Creepy Child: Mary Plantagenet, for killing her way up royal society and writing poems about the gruesome ways her victims die

  • Deliberately Cute Child: Mary Plantagenet uses this to get out of suspicion from others

  • Disappeared Dad: Thomas of Lancaster in the exposition, although his vow to prevent this trope lead him to take his family to court in Paris. Justified in that he was called to arms against the French by his brother, Henry V

  • Enfant Terrible: Mary Plantagenet, obviously

  • Frame-Up: Mary frames John of Lancaster as a heretic for blackmailing her with evidence on her murders. When John recants in order to avoid any further punishment, she simply frames him once more. This time, he has no way out as a relapsed heretic is never forgiven

  • The Heretic: What Mary frames her older bastard brother, John of Lancaster for when he discovered he schemes. It doesn't end well for him

  • Princess Classic: Subverted to hell and back, with Mary going from playing this straight in public but being a Serial Killer in secret
