Dieser seltene Vogel: ein Deutscher mit Sinn für HumorTranslation

"As we say in Germany - Always end with a 'Heil!'"

Henning Wehn (born April 10, 1974 in Hagen, North-Rhine-Westphalia, then-West Germany) is a German stand-up comedian based in the UK.

Having first ensured his degree in Business Administration so as to equip him for a productive career, he then emigrated to Britain in 2002 to pursue a career as the marketing manager for an English professional football club. Finding his feet in High Wycombe but discovering Wycombe Wanderers were not exactly a glamour outfit playing in the English Premier League - in fact, they played seven divisions lower than the Manchester Uniteds or Liverpools of the world - Henning looked for other things to do.

An open mic night at a comedy club gave him the inspiration to become the German Comedy Ambassador to the United Kingdom, and today, exactly one thousand, six hundred and forty-six days, nine hours and forty-two minutes later, he has found a niche and a rich comedy vein in doing things like explaining Germany to the British, describing the everyday interactions of a German living in Britain, and demonstrating to the world that yes, we Germans do indeed have a sense of humour.

Since 2002, he has built a steady career in stand-up comedy and has multiple appearances on radio and TV, as well as several national tours, to his credit. He has also done serious reporting for the BBC, presenting a documentary series on radio as to how well West and East Germany have integrated after reunification.

These tropes require enumeration in precise and accurate detail and most certainly not in any sloppy and careless British manner. Let us be more German about this.

  • All Germans Are Nazis: In The Unbelievable Truth, Henning is resigned to the fact that this will come up at least Once per Episode, and occasionally Lamp Shades this by timing how long it will take before a fellow panellist inevitably raises this.
  • Germanic Efficiency: Henning plays on this trope a lot, in a self-referential and ironic sort of way, never knowingly passing up on any opportunity to contrast the perceived sloppiness and casual attitude of his British hosts.
  • invokedGermans Love David Hasselhoff: He has a substantial fanbase in the UK who respect Germany's Comedy Ambassador and many British people could name him if asked to compile a list of Ten Famous Germans. However, he doesn't appear to be that well known in his native country.
  • Improbable Aiming Skills: In a documentary screened in September 2023, Henning tours British military museums with comedian Al Murraynote , and they discuss how today's British and German people deal with the legacy of WW2. To recreate, as best they can, the conditions of the Blitzkreig battles in 1940, the British Army facilitates Henning and Al becoming tank commanders for a day, each in charge of a turreted AFV. Henning displays a previously unsuspected talent as a tank commander, landing five hits on Al's tank.note . Al misses with every return shot.
  • Paintball Episode: The tank battle between Henning and Al Murray, where their AFV's are effectively armed with supersized paintball guns.
  • Refuge in Audacity: Read the page quote. He also titled his British tour My Struggle
