Whisper is a Comic Book by Steven Grant and Rich Larson.

Alexis Devinn is an American woman who was raised in Japan by her mother and her step-father Jiro Hatzumi, who taught her in the ways of ninjutsu to help her overcome her polio. She has now grown into a fully American woman who wants nothing to do with Japan, working as an architect in the States. This hasn't stopped her from paying Jiro a visit, though.

However, it seems she couldn't have picked a worse time to come back. It seems the Yakuza have their sights set on taking over the criminal underworld of Japan. However, a friend of Hatzumi's named Toreshido stands in their way. They obviously won't just sit back and let him do that, of course. But when they decide to target Alexis to get to Hatzumi (and possibly to Toreshido through them), Alexis finds herself caught up in the power struggle, and must don a ninja outfit to get through it.

The series was published in December, 1983.

Whisper contains examples of:

  • Action Girl: Alexis. Having been trained from childhood in the ways of ninjutsu by her step-father, she's able to escape from captivity and throw down with several armed guards.
  • Instant Sedation: Jiro goes out like a light from being shot with a tranquilizer gun.
  • Jack Bauer Interrogation Technique: Alexis gets information out of Kimura by sticking his head under the water of his bath.
  • Monochrome Past: Flashbacks to Alexis' childhood under Jiro's roof are presented in sepia tone.
  • One-Word Title: Whisper, of course.
