Captain America has been in Ultimate Marvel since the first arc of The Ultimates. Eventually, he got a limited series of 4 issues.

Captain America helps to stop a super soldier program in North Korea, but gets his ass kicked by Frank Simpson, another supersoldier. Simpson was a super soldier sent to The Vietnam War, where he eventually deserted, switched sides, and was missing since then. Captain America escapes from hospital recovery and follows him to a secret village in Vietnam. There, all people (even children, women and elders) have the supersoldier serum and can fight against Rogers with no problem. He is chained and tortured, and Simpson spends days detailing him all the atrocities commited by the US during the time he was frozen. Eventually, Simpson gets tired and attempts to kill Cap, but he gets free and defeats him.

Note: This page is about the miniseries. For tropes about the character, see here.

Tropes

  • As the Good Book Says...: The story ends with Rogers reading the Bible to Simpson.
  • Bond Villain Stupidity: Simpson got Rogers jailed for days, trying in vain to get him to "see the light".
  • Both Sides Have a Point: Simpson rejects all the war actions commited by the US in the Vietnam War and since then. Rogers does not deny the things he told, but thinks instead that America did what needed to be done.
  • Divine Intervention: Rogers started to pray before Simpson killed him. To mess with him even further, Simpson stepped out of his cell and gave Rogers five minutes, more than enough for God to save him somehow. Then he opens the door again. No Deus ex Machina took place... but a snake sneaked into the cell. Rogers took it and bite it, sucked all the venom from it, and spitted it to Simpson's face. Rogers is sure that the snake was sent by God, who still has plans for him.
  • Heroic Resolve: Rogers will simply never give up to torture.
  • How We Got Here: The story begins with Captain America held prisoner somewhere. Then we move to North Korea, six weeks ago, to see how the whole thing started.
  • Super-Soldier: Rogers, Simpson, the people in that village, and much the plot discussed the super soldier programs.
  • Undefeatable Little Village: All the people of that small village have the super soldier serum.
  • Why Don't You Just Shoot Him?: One of the guys in the village points that, if Captain America did not break by that point, he simply won't. Why go on? Why not end this?
  • Wild Mass Guessing: In-Universe. After the adventure ended, Captain America and Hawkeye discuss about the snake. Rogers is sure that it was a miracle, that the snake was sent by God in answer to his prayings. Hawkeye points that both of them are anti heroes who do not hesitate to kill when it is needed, and that it is not precisely God who works with snakes. So, who's to say that the snake was not sent by... the other guy?
