An old friend returns.

Neverwinter Tales is a five part comic book series that is part of The Legend of Drizzt series of books by R.A. Salvatore written in the Forgotten Realms. It is a Dungeons & Dragons comic book set in the region of Neverwinter during the The Neverwinter Saga. It is also set during the period of Dungeons & Dragons 4th Edition before the Sundering.

Drizzt Do'Urden and his companion Dahlia Sin'felle are serving as mercenaries in the aftermath of the eruption that destroyed Neverwinter. After a group of goblins they were hunting end up dead, they soon discover signs that they might be dealing with something much worse in a vampire. Meanwhile, Thibbledorf Pwent discovers that he has been transformed into one of the undead and is haunted by his inhuman (dwarven?) hunger.

This comic contains the following tropes:

  • All There in the Manual: Readers should definitely have picked up The Neverwinter Saga to know what is going on.
  • Asshole Victim: Pwent doesn't consider killing goblins for their blood to be something that warrants much concern.
  • And Then John Was a Zombie: Pwent becoming a vampire and dealing with the consequences is essentially the basis of the comic.
  • Back from the Dead: Pwent returns from death as one of the undead. Unfortunately, he very much views this as Came Back Wrong.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Despite Pwent's best efforts to receive an honorable death, he ends up deciding that he can continue living by fleeing to the Underdark and feeding on all of the monsters there rather than staying on the surface and killing potential innocents.
  • Classical Movie Vampire: Due to being based on Dungeons and Dragons vampires, Pwent displays most of these qualities.
  • The Corruptor: Korvin Dor'crae attempts to get Pwent to indiscriminately feed on humans rather than attempting to avoid killing innocents.
  • Death Seeker: Pwent would like to destroy himself to rejoin his king but vampire instincts to self-preservation are strong and he's thwarted several times.
  • Dramatic Irony: Pwent refuses to feed on humans and only on goblins despite being a dwarven vampire who is friends with a drow. There is also a massive collection of Hollywood Satanism devil-worshiping humans in the area.
  • Driven to Suicide: Pwent plans to kill himself by letting the sun destroy him but ends up getting interrupted by Korvin Dor'crae's ghost.
  • Face Death with Dignity: Pwent tries this, oh how he tries, but keeps getting thwarted by it.
  • Friendly Neighborhood Vampire: Pwent attempts to become this by only feeding on goblins.
  • Hollywood Satanism: The Ashmadai are worshipers of the Demon Lords and Archdevils figure, Asmodeus, that imperil all of Neverwinter.
  • Horror Hunger: The Hunger is something that Pwent, despite his superhuman dwarven constitution and self-control struggles with.
  • Hotter and Sexier: Valindra Shadowmantle is quite a bit fleshier than most liches and drawn to be attractive despite, well, liches being animate corpses.
  • I Hate You, Vampire Dad: Pwent has this attitude toward the vampire who created him in Korvin Dor'crae.
  • Male Gaze: Dahlia's legs are given an exceptional amount of attention throughout the book.
  • The Man Behind the Man: Valindra Shadowmantle is the master of Korbin Dor'crae.
  • Uncertain Doom: Whether Pwent destroyed Korvin Dor'crae or not at the end is uncertain.
  • What Measure Is A Nonhuman: Despite the protagonist being a drow and a vampire respectively, the comic considers the slaughter of indiscriminate slaughter of goblins to be fine.
