Inferno is a 2015 Marvel Comics limited series written by Dennis "Hopeless" Hallum with art by Javier Garron.

The series is part of the Secret Wars (2015) event, set at a time when reality has been remade and the only remaining planet is Battleworld, a patchwork of different realms held together by the will of Doctor Doom.

An alternate take on Inferno (1988), where the X-Men failed to stop the invasion and Manhattan became a "Hell on Earth".

Inferno (2015) provides examples of:

  • Adaptational Modesty: The Goblin Queen's notoriously revealing top is redesigned here to completely cover her chest. The rest of her outfit is still very revealing though.
  • Adaptational Relationship Overhaul:
    • Madelyne Pryor's infamous infanticide/filicide attempt with her own baby is discarded in this telling, and she's been raising her son in the years since. They're shown to be an unconventional but very devoted pair.
    • Pryor's attitude towards Jean Grey and Cyclops has significantly mellowed away from vengeful hatred into, "Screw you, LOSERS."
  • Alternate Universe: The world is one where the X-Men failed to stop the invasion and Manhattan became a "Hell on Earth".
  • Big Brother Instinct: Inferno is about a Colossus who was on an X-Men team that failed to stop demons from claiming Manhattan. His only goal in Secret Wars is to fight into the Hell on Earth to save his baby sister, Illyana. In contrast, Cyclops seems indifferent about the fate of his own son (a baby during the original Inferno), as well as of his brother, Havok.
  • Combat Stilettos: A page of Inferno provides a side-by-side comparison that emphasizes the vastly different boots worn by Jean Grey compared to Maddie Pryor.
  • "Could Have Avoided This!" Plot: In Inferno #4, after having his domain destroyed by Demonic Invaders, ex-Baron Cyclops angrily beats and berates Colossus after the latter comes to apologize and says he was right all along. Cyclops didn't need him to tell him he was right; he already knew that, and it's far too late for apologies now.
  • Downer Ending: Colossus is forced to kill his sister after her forces ambush the X-Men. All the superheroes of New York are killed, except for Colossus, Domino and Boom Boom. The three surviving X-Men then leave for another domain, while evil Madeleine Pryor takes Illyana's power as her own and now reigns supreme over a demon-haunted New York with a demonic Nightcrawler as her pet.
  • Hell on Earth: One of the universes making up the new Battleworld is one where the Demons of Inferno took over part of the planet. Inferno follows that universes Colossus as he assembles a team to go into the hell-claimed Manhattan and save his sister.
  • Honor Before Reason: In Inferno, Colossus makes an attempt to rescue his sister from the Inferno dimension every year, on the exact anniversary of the day she was taken. That means not only do the demons know exactly when the attempt will be made, they have all the time in the world to prepare. Sure enough, this bites Colossus and his teammates in the ass several times, as each attempt grows more and more disastrous. Issue #3 has Colossus' lover, Domino, call him out on this. In addition to the terrible leadership decisions he's been making, she states that he needs to start entertaining the possibility that Illyana is a lost cause.
  • Mythology Gag: Child!Cable has a huge enthusiasm for very big guns, like his adult counterpart. He also (temporarily only) develops a friendly bond with Domino, who Adult!Cable had a relationship.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: In Inferno #1, Colossus' attempt to rescue his sister from the demons of Inferno allows the demons to capture Nightcrawler, who is the heroes' only means of getting in or out of Inferno.
  • Noodle Incident: Cyclops and Pryor's son Nathan is a child here instead of a time-travelled adult, but was still infected with the techo-organic virus, without any explanation given about his infection.
  • Official Couple: Colossus and Domino.
  • Scenery Gorn: The apocalyptic ruins of Manhattan as shown in Warzones: Inferno are quite something to look at.
  • Shout-Out: Inferno #5 ends with the Goblin Queen resembling a horned fairy-sorceress.
  • Tempting Fate: In Inferno, the heroes travel into Inferno to fight demons and rescue Colossus's sister. Once they're inside, they happen to mention that Nightcrawler is their only means of escaping from there. Naturally, only a few minutes later, Nightcrawler is captured.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Colossus makes MANY MANY MANY bad decisions as leader of the X-Men, resulting in many deaths.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Every mutant who was present during the original Inferno make appearances (along with Domino and numerous new members created afterward in the 1990s also included). Wolverine, however, is completely absent here.
  • What If?: Inferno is just another version of "What if the X-Men lost Inferno''.
