G.I. Zombie is a Zombie Comic Book created by Jimmy Palmiotti, Justin Gray, and Scott Hampton for DC Comics.

Jared Kabe is a soldier of the United States Army. But he's not just any old soldier, though he is pretty old. He's the kind of soldier who will go into the most dangerous of situations, take on the deadliest of foes, and handle the worst forms of Jack Bauer Interrogation Techniques without cracking. He's even willing to die for his country if need be... which he's done plenty of times already.

Because Jared Kabe is a zombie.

Yeah, and because of the fact he's undead, he's the go-to guy to send in when you got some bio-terrorist plot on your hands. And all those years he's been alive has left him with the combat experience you would get from such a long and illustrious military career.

The character debuted in Star-Spangled War Stories Featuring G.I. Zombie in July 23rd, 2014.

G.I. Zombie contains examples of:

  • An Arm and a Leg: In his debut issue, he willingly lets his partner chop his hand off so she can get in good with a Western Terrorist group.
    • Jared later rips the arm off a guy who was getting ready to beat his wife.
  • Back from the Dead: Jared's Healing Factor always assures that any death he suffers is temporary.
  • Boom, Headshot!: Jared can certainly be killed this way. However, his Healing Factor always revives him.
  • Bound and Gagged: The group ties a fed (Jared in disguise) to a chair and puts tape over his mouth in their base. Then Tiff rips the tape off to get him to talk.
  • Crowbar Combatant: When fighting off zombies in Sutterville, Jared grabs a crowbar while in a mechanic's garage and uses it to bat away an undead dog and cave in a couple undead skulls.
  • Elaborate Underground Base: There's one located under Rinaldi Spa And Retreat, used by Duke's backers to house enough weapons to start a war, as well as an underground garden.
  • Healing Factor: Jared has one, allowing him to reattach lost limbs.
  • Raising the Steaks: The Virus released in Sutterville can zombify animals as well. This becomes evident when a dog is still able to stand up despite having had its neck broken.
  • Riding the Bomb: Jared manages to get on the missile that Duke launches. He sabotages its guidance system and damages one of the fins to keep it from reaching Washington D.C.
  • Undeathly Pallor: Jared has paper white skin with visible veins.
  • Zombie Apocalypse: Jared manages to avert this happening in Washington DC by damaging the missile carrying The Virus. Instead, it crashes in Sutterville, Tennessee and causes one there.
