Main Characters

    Sam
Played by: Fran Kranz
The cheerful head of the counselors at Camp Clear Vista who finds himself in a typical slasher situation from the vengeful Wood Carver. However, the killer is closer to him than he thought...
  • Alternate Identity Amnesia: Has absolutely had no recollection of being the Wood Carver since wearing a cursed mask can really mess up your perception of reality.
  • Back from the Dead: Two years after the events of the massacre, Chuck receives a call from Sam who ended up dead at the hands of a possessed Jaime. Thank goodness Chuck was right about slasher villains somehow coming back to life for the sequels.
  • Batter Up!: He grabs a baseball bat to defend himself against The Wood Carver. At least that's what the mask wanted him to believe since he's actually wielding the killer's machete disguised as one in his mind.
  • Fake Memories: Under the mask effects, Sam's memories are not only repressed but also altered to prevent him from realizing he's the killer before Chuck forces him to remember what actually happened. One instance is being inserted into a third-person perspective of Freddie and Nancy's conversation before the Wood Carver offs them. It's very obvious and awkwardly done as indicated by how the two completely ignore him despite calling out or the Plot Hole of the Wood Carver letting Sam escape as Chuck points out.
  • Not Helping Your Case: Chuck informs Sam that Jaime would most definitely kill him as she's the blatant Final Girl in this scenario. Sam refuses to believe someone like her can be capable of defeating the Wood Carver by listing all her good traits but this only proves Chuck's point.
  • Power of Love: Or rather out of anguished love as seeing the decapitated body of Imani, his former girlfriend he still has feelings for, is what gave Sam the strength to rip off the mask once and for all.
  • Tomato in the Mirror: The killer Sam was trying to run away from was him the entire time, causing him no amount of grief and distraught once Chuck pieces the truth.
  • Working with the Ex: Imani, one of the counselors, was his summer fling from last year's camp whom he still has a flame for but she strictly sees their relationship as a one-time thing and quickly moves on.

    Chuck
Played by: Alyson Hannigan
Sam's best friend who works at the comic book store called Rings of Saturn. Because of the countless movies ingrained into her brain, Chuck is extremely well-versed in the horror and slasher genre which is why Sam called her in the first place.
  • Conditioned to Accept Horror: Thanks to the hundreds of horror and slasher movies she watched, Chuck remains calm and sometimes excited over Sam's situation. She didn't even mind that Sam technically slaughtered nearly a dozen innocent counselors and was sympathetic to his plight rather than shocked or disgusted.
Chuck: [Very sympathetically and nonchalantly] Aw... you chopped his head in half?
  • Deuteragonist: The second most prominent character after her best friend Sam who she serves as The Lancer and advisor to his situation.
  • Gender-Blender Name: While her real name (Charlotte) averts the trope, her nickname Chuck is predominantly a boy's name.
  • Gender Flip: She's the Author Avatar of the male writer Chuck Wendig who co-wrote the movie (Hence her nickname).
  • It's for a Book: When one of the customers in Chuck's store overhears her talking about the murders at Camp Clear Vista, she claims that it's a creative writing assignment for school.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Her full name is Charlotte but likes shortening it to Chuck.

Camp Counselors

    Imani
Played by: Brittany S. Hall

  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: The Wood Carver pushed her into the spike trap the counselors set up and was killed on the spot. Or so he, Sam and the audience thought...
  • Odd Name Out: Imani is the only female counselor not to be named after an actress from iconic horror movies.
  • Death by Genre Savviness: Attempts to kill Jaime when they are the only two camp counselors left excluding Sam so she can be the Final Girl. Only to be immediately and brutally decapitated with the added touch of egging Jaime to kill her.
  • Tempting Fate: Taunts Jaime that she can't kill her because she doesn't have the guts and is ready to take her place as the Final Girl...if only she didn't instantly prove Imani wrong by effortlessly tackling down and decapitating her head off.

    Jaime
Played by: Jenna Harvey

  • Corrupt the Cutie: All-around Nice Girl Jaime not only embraces the mask within a few seconds of putting it on but also takes the mask with her after ending Sam's life. To put it in retrospect, Sam does everything in his power to resist the mask and eventually conquers it by the end.
  • Final Girl: The most standardised example of one, kind-hearted, nature-loving, Friend to All Children...However, it turns out to be a subversion since she doesn't have the constitution to resist the temptation of evil because a few seconds wearing the mask completely entrances her to the dark side, kill off Sam and left the camping grounds to become the newest and more permanent vessel of the Wood Carver.
  • Shovel Strike: Due to the lack of options available in the camping grounds' shed, Jaime makes use of a large shovel as her improvised weapon.

    Steve "The Kayak King"
Played by: Bryan Price

  • Nice Guy: He's the only other counselor besides Jaime to actually be as excited for the camp as Sam is. Sam also felt the most distraught from unintentionally killing him as The Wood Craver.
  • Non-Indicative Name: "The Kayak King" actually specializes in canoes, not kayaks but was likely named to get an Alliterative Name.

    Other Counselors
Played by: Clara Chong (Alice), Peter Jaymes (Bob), Patrick Reginald Walker (Brad), Olivia Brown (Carol), Catt Bellamy (Drew), Jack Murillo (Freddie), Carol Jean Wells (Heather), Savannah DesOrmeaux (Nancy) and Jesse Gallegos (Ted)
The rest of the camp counselors who are more interested in sex and partying than camping.
  • Bury Your Gays: Nancy mentioned she was saving up for culinary school with her girlfriend which soon became a death wish once The Wood Carver made quick work of her.
  • Cannon Fodder: Most of them were given no characterization beyond reluctant counselors and their only purpose is to increase the body count.
  • Shoutout: Their names are homages to slasher or other non-horror movies.
  • Off with His Head!: Two of the camp counselors suffered this fate from the Wood Carver, one's head was bisected vertically and the other had hers hacked clean off the neck.
  • Sex Signals Death: Ted and Alice were caught doing the nasty in the swimming pool by The Wood Carver and promptly killed for it.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: None of the massacres would have taken place if the first victim Drew hadn't shoved the mask onto Sam's face without warning.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Drew stumbled across an ominous mask identical to what Sam described in his story. Had she not stupidly ignored Sam's warning and placed the mask on him so suddenly, The Wood Carver wouldn't rise again to commit mass murder starting with Drew.

    The Wood Carver
Played by: Isaiah LaBorde (Voices), Jenna Harvey and Fran Kranz (Body)

  • Blade Enthusiast: The killer's weapon is a ceremonial-looking, serrated machete fashioned from a crocodile jaw and used almost too efficiently to make bloody work of those helpless counselors.
  • Off with His Head!: Head decapitation is his signature finishing move.
