Revelations New Playable Characters

    Sarah
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/c862eca5_0187_4446_abcc_ee905f11fe43.png
Sarah starts with two red heart containers, half of an eternal heart, one key, and the item Penance, which replaces all Soul Hearts generated with Black Hearts. She cannot enter Devil Deal rooms, but is guaranteed to get Angel Deals until the Womb. Due to Penance's effect, however, all Angel Deal rooms are replaced with unique ones that take your Black Hearts in exchange for items.
  • Deal with the Devil: Defied, as she outright can't enter Devil Deal rooms under any circumstances.
  • Fallen Angel: Is an angel with her wings torn off. However, you can subvert this if you get 4 Angel Deal rewards from Penance, which restores your wings.
  • Mechanically Unusual Fighter: Sarah cannot gain soul hearts, instead converting them directly into black hearts. This is less useful than it sounds, since taking damage will cause all of her black hearts to become demons that attempt to kill her until she kills every enemy in the room. She also cannot spawn Devil rooms and will always generate an Angel room after clearing the boss, which contains no items but lets her trade black hearts away in exchange for rewards.

    Dante and Charon

Dante

Charon

Dante and Charon both start with a Red Heart and one and a half Black Hearts as well as a key and a bomb. When beginning a floor, Dante will spawn alone in the starting room, with Charon placed near the end of the floor. While their held item, Phylactery, is fully charged, all doors are chained shut, forcing them to swap between each other in order to complete the floor. If they meet in a room, however, they'll become one character, with Charon becoming a familiar that can only shoot in the direction he's facing, while Phylactery becomes a 0-charge active that changes the direction Charon is facing.

  • Badass Bookworm: Dante is named after Dante Alighieri, the writer of The Divine Comedy that the mod is based on, and he can dish out some serious hurt.
  • Bash Brothers: While at first subverted, they play this straight when reunited. To exemplify this, they high five each other once they finally meet up on the floor.
  • Cursed with Awesome: Before the Cathedral/Sheol, every floor is under the Curse of the Labyrinth, with all the ups and downs that implies.
  • Throw the Book at Them: When beginning to fire tears, Dante can slam a book into the ground in front of him, causing damage and knock back.
  • We Cannot Go On Without You: If one dies, they both die. Also, they can't enter the boss room unless they're together.

    Bertran
Bertran starts with two red hearts and a bone heart. He is significantly different from other Isaac characters in how he fights. He doesn't use tears, but instead uses his unique anatomy to flail his head around and crush his foes.

Bertran is currently unreleased in the mod proper (as he is set to come out with the as-of-yet unimplemented Vestige), but until then, he's available as a standalone character on the workshop.

  • Dem Bones: Bertran is partially skeletal, specifically his bony noggin. He also uniquely starts with a bone heart.
  • Epic Flail: Uses his head as a flail, alongside his extendable neck.
  • Good Counterpart: Bert's basically a playable Mr. Maw, but much, much stronger.
  • Mechanically Unusual Fighter: Bertran has an entirely unique combat system compared to everyone else. Use of various inputs allows him to do various moves using his head, such as simply tossing it out, holding it into the ground to fling himself, spinning it around, and even performing a powerful slam attack.
  • Some Dexterity Required: The inputs required for some of Bertran's special moves are very unwieldy on the Isaac-standard keyboard input, to the point where the mod pagenote  recommends using a controller with him. Even then, attacking with Bertran is far more complex than point-and-shoot.
  • Stylish Action: An unlockable game mode unique to Bertran changes up his gameplay by adding several Devil May Cry-inspired game mechanics such as a style meter, score system, and upgrades.
  • Use Your Head: Bertran can't shoot tears without specific items, so he instead throws his head out to bonk his foes into oblivion.

  • King Mook: Of the base game's Long Legs enemies.

Chapter 1.5

    Freezer Burn
Floor(s): Glacier

A snowman body with a chunk of coal for a head.

  • Boss-Arena Idiocy: Freezer Burn's boss room contains fireplaces, which both damage the boss and provide a warmth aura when it lowers the room's temperature.
  • Instant Ice: Just Add Cold!: Freezer Burn periodically turns the boss room into a Chill Room, causing Isaac's head to freeze solid and prevent him from firing if he doesn't stand next to a heat source to warm up.
  • Oxymoronic Being: A creature with a body made of snow and a head made of burning coal.

    Frost Rider
Floor(s): Glacier

The horseman of Famine, now acclimated to the Glacier's chilly climate.

    Stalagmight
Floor(s): Glacier

A humanoid creature trapped in ice.

  • Blow You Away: He's able to create wind currents to push or pull Isaac into his bullets or the spikes he creates around the room.
  • Death from Above: One of his attacks involves dropping icicles from the ceiling onto Isaac.
  • Meaningful Name: A mighty guy stuck in an icy stalagmite.
  • Stationary Boss: At first, Stalagmight, being trapped in ice, can't move. However, when his health drops low enough, he begins sliding around in the ice, then eventually breaks free.
