    Jason Walker
Jason Walker is the main character of the Beyonders series. A thirteen year old boy from Vista, Colorado. He lived a pretty average life, playing baseball, working for the local zoo, and hanging out with his friends. That is, of course, until he was swallowed by a hippo and sent to an alternate dimension.

Tropes:

  • Animal Lover: Jason has a strong interest in animals, which led him to take a part-time job at the zoo. During his travels in Lyrian, Jason is curious about the new and different kinds of wildlife living in the realm, and even teaches a highly intelligent species of gibbons how to play baseball.
  • Claustrophobia: While imprisoned at Felrook, Jason is dosed with a truth-telling serum in order for his tormentors to figure out the best way to torture him. Among other things, Jason admits to being afraid of tight spaces. The result? Being put in a dark container perfectly matching the shape of his body with no hope of escape.
  • Kid Hero: Despite being only thirteen at the beginning of the series, Jason is tasked with gathering the syllables to a key word in order to defeat an evil emperor and bring peace to the land.

    Rachel Woodruff
A thirteen year old homeschooled kid from Olympia, Washington. Rachel's life changed forever during a field trip to Arches National Park in Utah. Rachel discovered a strange butterfly and followed it under a stone arch, which led her to the strange world of Lyrian.

Tropes:

  • Child Mage: While on the run from Maldor, Drake helps Rachel discover that she is adept at Edomic, a magical language used by Lyrian's wizards. She eventually becomes a formidable user of the magical language and employs it to help fight in the war against Felrook.
  • Kid Hero: Along with Jason, Rachel helps uncover the key syllables of the word. Later on in the series, she discovers that she has some serious Edomic potential, and spends her time honing her magical skills, enough to single-handedly defeat Maldor by turning his Myrkstone into glass and destroying it, thus freeing the torivors, who turn against him instantly.
