Yasmina

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_apprentice_the_appren_001_8.jpg
  • Achilles' Heel: While she was never outright bad during the process, her finances of a restaurant she ran proved to be one for her owing to intense scrutiny from Claude Littner who found out that under scrutiny she didn't understand about "turnover" and delivered the coup de'grace:
Claude Littner: "If you don't know your own turnover, that's a pretty sad indictment isn't it, of your business?"
  • Flawless Victory: Aside from her part in the Sandalwood fiasco in Week 4 (and even then Paula and Ben were equally at fault), she didn't put a single foot wrong during the season.

Kate

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_apprentice_the_appren_006.jpg
  • Romance on the Set: With Philip. And like Paul and Katie's comparable relationship in Season 3, it affected both their performances, he eventually got fired for it, while she enjoyed a (mostly) successful rest of the season.invoked
  • The Runner-Up Takes It All: Since leaving the Apprentice, she became a television presenter much like Series 1's Saira Khan and Series 3's Katie Hopkins.
  • Always Someone Better: A very strong and persistent candidate throughout all the tasks, it was just Yasmina was more willing to take risks. Had she been on a different series, its likely she would have won.

Debra

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_apprentice_the_appren_004.jpg
  • Blatant Lies: It's difficult to know whether or not she was just oblivious to how much conflict she caused, or was deliberately trying to hide it from Sir Alan, but one thing she definitely lied about was claiming not to have called her sub-team members "puppets" in the first task, which she actually did do. Twice.
  • Jerkass: Could be extremely nasty to people over the slightest thing, especially in the first half of the season. It ended up coming back to haunt her in the interview round, as her own referees said that her personality was her biggest problem.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: After getting royally chewed out by Sir Alan in the Week 6 boardroom, she made something of an effort to get along with people better for the rest of the season. She still had her moments, but didn't behave in the outright jerkish manner she did in the first half of the season.

Lorraine

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_apprentice_the_appren_008.jpg
  • The Cassandra: Margaret outright called her this in the boardroom. Despite her occasional Cloudcuckoo Lander habits, Lorraine could be quite insightful and spotted things that no-one else did.
  • No Social Skills: The reason why she was a Cassandra rather than someone that people regularly listened to. When she wasn't giving the teams useful information and insight, she was very difficult to get along with.

James

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_apprentice_the_appren_014.jpg
  • Butt-Monkey: Lost more tasks than anyone else this season, and was frequently the target of Sir Alan's jibes in the boardroom.
  • Graceful Loser: His last words once he went out the boardroom were "It's been brilliant!"
  • Hidden Depths: For the first few weeks he appeared to be a complete plonker (as Sir Alan called him) with no real skills, but as the season progressed he demonstrated a better side, and everyone was genuinely upset when he was fired first in the interview round.
  • Last of His Kind: After Howard's firing, he was the last man left in the final five.
  • Nice Guy: He may have been the target of Sir Alan's jibes in the boardroom, but he was at least good to be around. Unfortunately, his humour simply didn't stick with the other interviewers, lest of all Claude Littner.
  • Somebody Doesn't Love Raymond: Seemingly everyone liked his affable personality and sense of humor- except for Ben, who for some reason seemed to have it in for him, bringing him back to the boardroom for seemingly no reason in week 6 and then in the cab ride home specified he was "a better candidate than James".

Howard

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/45596862_apprentice12_466.jpg
  • Celebrity Resemblance: Looks somewhat like Chris Pine, which was especially noticeable given that Star Trek (2009) was released while this series was airing.
  • Only Sane Man: He was the only member of the men's team who looked to have even a vague shot of winning this season. Unfortunately, he imploded in the final task by firstly doing a horrible job of selling on QVC, and then signed his death warrant in the boardroom by admitting that he has a very conservative personality and doesn't take risks.
  • Straight Gay: Never had much flamboyant mannerisms on the show, but was revealed as being gay off the show when it was revealed in a newspaper that Mona had made homophobic statements about rebranding Margate as a gay resort.

Ben

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_apprentice_the_appren_003.jpg
  • Catchphrase: Coupled with a Character Tic, whenever he was in the last three, he had a habit of shouting "Let me Finish!" while also performing a karate chop type movement.
  • Jerkass: Very pronounced during the first few episodes, particularly when he got dragged into the boardroom in Weeks 3 and 4.
  • No Indoor Voice: Particularly in the boardroom when he was in the last three.
  • Running Gag: He brought up the fact that he was awarded a scholarship to Sandhurst practically Once an Episode. Sir Alan got so sick of this that in the boardroom where Ben ended up being fired, he pointed out that they'd had the Sandhurst brigade there before (Paul and Katie from Season 3), and it didn't help them any.

Mona

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_apprentice_the_appren_010.jpg
  • Bystander Syndrome: Did almost nothing on what would turn out to be her final task, because she thought the idea of rebranding Margate as a gay resort was a bad idea. She probably thought that her convincing victory as project manager the previous week would save her, but found out the hard way that she was wrong.
  • Genre Blind: Had clearly not paid much attention to previous seasons, as she'd have known firstly that spending the entire budget (as she did when project manager on the first task) is never a good idea, and secondly that throwing your toys out of your pram and refusing to do any work on the task because you don't like the team's advertising theme (as she did in Week 8, which got her fired) is an even worse one.
  • Graceful Loser: Despite being fired in Week 8 when there were arguably more reasons to fire Debra or even James, Mona left agreeing with the decision. Even in a post interview, she absolutely agreed that Sir Alan made the right decision.

Philip

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_apprentice_the_appren_015.jpg
  • Epic Fail: As far as The Apprentice UK goes, Pantsman was pretty much the personification of this trope.
  • Graceful Loser: Even though he didn't leave in a good mood, he mentioned in a BBC interview that he completely agreed with Sir Alan's decision and that at the time, his behaviour had been pathetic to say the least.
  • Insane Troll Logic: No-one could quite understand how Pantsman was supposed to tie into a breakfast cereal. The idea was supposedly that if you didn't eat the team's cereal you'd be so confused that you'd put your pants on outside your clothes.
  • Jerkass: Seemed like a decent guy at first, but rapidly turned into this, to the extent where about the only person in the country who was sorry to see him go was Kate.
    • Jerk Ass Has A Point: While he was less than pleasant about it, he was right in getting frustrated in the fourth task owing to the complete and utter ineptitude of Noorul's leadership despite saying he could lead the team effectively.
  • One-Hit Wonder: Sir Alan openly called him this before firing him. Philip clearly thought he was one of the front-runners, but in reality he only did especially well in Week 3, and spent most of the remaining weeks being decent at best, and causing huge amounts of conflict at worst.invoked
  • Sore Loser: On the show, described Sir Alan's decision as a "joke" under his breath. Averted after the episode's broadcast though.
  • We Win, Because You Didn't: Sir Alan described his time as Project Manager as being "a fools win" and for good reason: Both teams lost money, but he held responsibility for not losing quite as much.

Noorul

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_apprentice_the_appren_013.jpg
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Put up a surprisingly spirited defence when he actually did find himself in the final boardroom, but it was much too little, much too late.
  • Bystander Syndrome: He almost never did anything on the show, even when he was meant to be project manager.
  • Chronic Backstabbing Disorder: About the last person you'd expect this from, but just before being fired he suddenly accused Ben of bragging about only having entered the competition for the fame it would bring. Ben himself called this a desperation tactic.
  • Elimination Houdini: A rare case of this being acknowledged in-universe, as several candidates openly complained that he was only staying in the competition due to a combination of his fluke win as project manager in Week 4, and losing project managers not thinking to bring him back because he was so anonymous and invisible. Sir Alan himself acknowledged this when firing him.invoked
  • Wins by Doing Absolutely Nothing: His turn as Project Manager. He just sat back and let the team run itself, and they ended up winning thanks to the opposing team spending unwittingly spending an obscenely huge amount of money on fragrances. To a lesser extent he did this in Weeks 2 and 5, as he didn't do anything of note, causing people who'd actively made mistakes to be brought back over him.

Kim

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_apprentice_the_appren_007.jpg
  • Cloud Cuckoo Lander: Maybe not so much as Lorraine, but Phillip described her as being over in her head:
Phillip: "Noorul's put me with Kim, who's some marketing guru in her own little head but she's dumb as a doorknob."
  • Drama Queen: A variation, as she usually didn't cause drama, but had a very melodramatic personality. It was most noticeable in the Week 5 final boardroom, where she seemed under the impression that she was auditioning for a high school play.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: When Philip was starting his descent into jerkassery in Week 4, Kim angrily stood up to him, telling him that he was just being a distraction and to shut the hell up.

Paula

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_apprentice_the_appren_011.jpg
  • Graceful Loser: Admitted disappointment that she had left early in the competition yet commented that she hadn't gone because she was a liar, cheat or terrible leader, but had gone merely over an error. She also admitted no hard feelings towards Yasmina.
  • MercyElimination: Considered her firing to be this in her taxi interview when she said that the blow of her firing was softened by Sir Alan's compliment of the product she and her team made.
  • Nice Girl
  • Tragic Mistake: Actually showed herself to be a reasonably competent project manager, especially compared to the utter ineptitude of Noorul on the opposing team, but her confusing Cedarwood oil with the vastly more expensive Sandalwood oil caused the team to make a loss and got her fired.

Majid

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_apprentice_the_appren_009.jpg
  • Bystander Syndrome: One of many candidates who get fired in the second or (in his case) third week for contributing nothing of any real value to the tasks.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: Allegedly to Phillip. You're Fired even made it funnier by adding a clip of Majid doing up Phillip's tie much to his embarrassment.
  • In-Series Nickname: Was referred to by a shorter version of his name in the form of "Maj". Even by Sir Alan.
  • Suicide by Cop: Effectively asked to be fired when he said that he saw no reason to ask James for a bigger role which Nick and Sir Alan saw as a lack of confidence in his abilities.

Rocky

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_apprentice_the_appren_012.jpg
  • Dream-Crushing Handicap: Before going into business he had trained as a youth player with football club Middlesbrough, but his career was ended when he suffered a broken leg. Sir Alan referenced this when firing him.
  • Epic Fail: His outing as project manager resulted in the team making a loss of over £160 in a sandwich-selling task. Bear in mind that Rocky runs a sandwich company.
  • Tragic Mistake: Despite the loss, he had a lot of potential and probably could have saved himself had he brought back Noorul (who didn’t contribute much) or Majid (who’s Olympic themed idea doomed the team from the start). Instead he brought back James (who despite struggling to cope with the pressure wasn’t responsible for the failure of the task and Howard (who despite failing to notice coatings, wasn’t in-charge of controlling the budget). This got Rocky fired after just two tasks.
  • High Hopes, Zero Talent: Or rather High Hopes, Low Talent. Sir Alan expressed regret in firing Rocky as shown on You're Fired and merely felt that he had maybe come on the show a bit too early.
  • The Stoic: Didn't show much emotion on his firing as highlighted in an interview by Holy Moly.

Anita

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_apprentice_the_appren_002_7.jpg
  • The Eeyore: Subverted; she was a little on the formal side, but never really that moody. However, her default facial expression looks a little mopey even when she herself isn't, which she lampshaded when she appeared on You're Fired.
  • The Scapegoat: To a degree, as Mona had tasked her with calculating the spend, not controlling the budget, but her failure to notice the budget overspend, along with her passiveness in the task, (and Mona and Debra being much strong candidates) got her fired in the first task.
  • Nice Girl: Described herself as such in her quote which was much different to the usual boasts made by some of the other candidates:
""My CV is strong. I am articulate. I can deal with questions and make impactful statements. Many lawyers can't. People want to chat with me."

Adam

  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Bailed out on the show the night before filming of the season was due to begin. Carol Vorderman called him out on this during You're Fired, saying that by leaving it so late to quit he had robbed someone else of their chance to be on the show.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: We didn't actually know ye at all, in fact. He never actually appeared or was even named during the actual season, and the only footage we saw of him was on You're Fired.
