The titular female protagonist who is a gifted high jumper. She also happens to be the next-door neighbor of Yamato Akitsuki.
  • Academic Athlete: A student as well as a gifted high jumper.
  • Defrosting the Ice Queen: Suzuka was initially cold and distant during the early episodes. However, as the series progressed, she became more warm and kind-hearted.
  • Green-Eyed Epiphany: Suzuka doesn't start getting interested in Akitsuki until she hears he is dating someone else. Later in the manga she admits that she liked Akitsuki at first sight, and fell in love with him when he first encouraged her to keep working on her high jumping.
  • Passionate Sports Girl: Becomes this as the series progressed. Suzuka is a dedicated athlete whose hardworking traits are mistaken to be cold and distant.
  • The Perfectionist: Is extremely hard working to become the best high jumper in her school.

The main protagonist who is the next-door neighbor of Suzuka Asahina. He attends the same school as her and became part of the school's track team by accident.
  • Academic Athlete: A student who also became a sprinter by accident.
  • Accidental Athlete: Sort of. We as the audience don't see any initial signs of his athletic ability until he wins a race against one of the track team bigshots. But the characters later discover that he'd competed in athletic events in the past.
  • Give the Dog a Bone: In the sequel series, it is revealed that Akitsuki accomplished his life dream and became a 100 Meter Olympic athlete champion, and won the silver medal in the world championships against Emerson.

One of the primary protagonists of the series. Just like Yamato, Miki is a sprinter.
  • Academic Athlete: Just like the main cast, Miki is both a student and an athlete (sprinter).
  • Passionate Sports Girl: A beautiful sprinter who shows compassion to her friends.
  • Stripperiffic: How she looks like in her "sprinter" attire, which is nothing more than a bikini-sports bra combo.
  • Women Are Delicate: Of the unilateral variety. Miki blushed with embarrassment when Yamato noted that she is mostly nude in her "sprinter" attire.

Other Track Athletes

    Kazuki Tsuda
Voiced by: Mamoru Miyano (Japanese), Orion Pitts (English)

A student who attended the same school as Suzuka years before. He appeared only in flashbacks during Episode 11. It was revealed in the same episode that Kazuki perished during a truck accident while trying to retrieve his spikes at home; this left a huge burden on Suzuka. The episode also revealed that Kazuki was a rocket starter just like Yamato.
  • Character Death: Got hit by a sleeping truck driver.
  • The Pollyanna: Was more energetic as opposed to the more serious Suzuka. Unlike her, who was more serious and hard-working, Kazuki was more happy and viewed the sport as a way to have fun.

    Arima Emerson
Voiced by: Takahiro Hirano (Japanese), Greg Ayres (English)

  • Academic Athlete: Attends Tōto University High School as both a student and track athlete. Arima is also the fastest sprinter, holding a world record of 10.64 seconds in the 100 meter sprint.
  • Badass Arm-Fold: Does this in episode 24 while approaching Yamato before the major race.
  • Jerkass: Initially showed animosity towards Yamato and became bitter rivals. Arima also was harshly rude to Suzuka and even scoffed at Yamato as a rocket-start sprinter, claiming that Yamato will not win regardless.
