Caudle's Characters

    Sage
A naga who works as a therapist. He frequently takes the listener on imaginary tours of pleasant places.

    Oreo
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bookshop_skunk_oreo.png
"A spot of tea? I-If that's alright..."
A nervous skunk who owns the magical bookstore Belfry Books. Becomes the listener's boyfriend.

  • Cartoony Tail: Oreo's tail is the standard "tapers neatly to a point" sort of tail that skunks are often drawn with. Not to mention that it's also gigantic, easily as big or even bigger than Oreo himself Depending on the Artist.
  • Character Tics: Oreo likes curling his tail around people he's close to, namely the listener, because it subconsciously makes him feel more secure.
  • Charm Person: Oreo's other power is hypnosis, which he facilitates by changing his scent to things that are evocative of the effect he wants to instill on the subject. While there are some mishaps, he prefers to use the power for benevolent things, like alleviating stress. Hydrox on the other hand uses this power for more self-serving purposes, such as influencing the listener to be subservient to him (with their consent) and hypnotizing a particularly nasty patron at a restaurant to be nice to the staff.
  • Covert Pervert: Possibly — if Hydrox is being honest about himself being a manifestation of Oreo's inner desires, then Oreo's feelings towards the listener are very repressed. It becomes more blatant when it's revealed Oreo has been experimenting on willingly switching to Hydrox just so he can express himself more openly.
  • Emotionally Tongue-Tied: Due to being such a Shrinking Violet Oreo has trouble at times speaking from the heart to the listener about certain things. It's usually Played for Laughs as a part of his characterization but every now and then it's Played for Drama, especially when it comes to discussing the more serious implications of Oreo owning the bookshop. It's even the reason why Oreo deliberately invokes Hydrox in one episode, just so he can more easily talk about things he's been meaning to discuss with the listener without feeling shy.
  • Endearingly Dorky: The listener definitely seems to think so, going by Oreo's comments.
  • Forced Transformation: This was originally the reason why Oreo is a skunk in the first place, before possibly being retconned. Even so it still happens to him on occasion because of the store, and he mentions it happening to some patrons as well. His Power Incontinence also inflicts this on the listener a few times.
  • Helping Hands: Oreo has the ability to create hand-shaped clouds of scent he can control, but not very well. Luckily they don't smell bad.
  • In Touch with His Feminine Side: Oreo is shy & passive, enjoys cooking and collecting tea, and spends a lot of time trying to speak openly about his or the listener's feelings (even if his shyness makes it hard to do so). He also has a penchant for the color pink, between his glasses and the color of his scent-hands. He's occasionally expressed a desire to try and be more macho, but his typical Endearingly Dorky demeanor always shines through whenever he does. Even Hydrox, while far more outgoing and dominant than Oreo, is still quite flamboyant and shares some of Oreo's interests.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: During Oreo's second date with the listener it's revealed he can use his hypnosis powers to inflict this on people, as seen when Hydrox makes an entire restaurant full of customers forget they ever saw him hypnotize a mean patron into being nice.
  • Meaningful Name: Oreo's nickname is an obvious one since he's a striped skunk, but Hydrox fits as well since he is named after a near-identical brand of cookie with predates the Oreo brand, and Hydrox himself is Oreo's Split Personality.
  • Morphic Resonance: Oreo keeps his coloration and fluffy tail even when he's turned into a Pikachu, though this is not the case when he's turned into an elephant.
  • Never Bareheaded: Oreo is almost never seen without his brown flat cap hat, which he self-admittedly wears to obscure the stripe on his head.
  • Not a Morning Person: At one point when the listener visits Oreo early in the morning, he admits he's not an early riser since, unfortunately for him, skunks are nocturnal. note
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Oreo is only known as "Oreo" and has yet to say what his real name is. He almost gets to tell the listener what it is during their Valentine's Day visit to one of the bookstore's towers, but he's cut off before he can.
  • Power Incontinence: A Running Gag is how Oreo has trouble controlling his abilities at times, which is often the cause of a Forced Transformation situation or him hypnotizing someone without meaning to.
  • Round Hippie Shades: Oreo wears these, though they're more just for the style since he's not much of a hippie.
  • Sexier Alter Ego: Hydrox, Oreo's Split Personality who takes every ounce of Oreo's shyness & inhibition, and converts it into sultry wit & boldness. Oreo knows it too, hence why he devises a system for turning into Hydrox if he wants to show that side of himself.
  • Shock and Awe: Par for the course when Oreo turns into a Pikachu, and it even extends to his scent hands, which aren't made of scent in that form but floating bits of electricity.
  • Shrinking Violet: A male example — Oreo is very shy, passive, and Apologises a Lot, which based on his comments about his life and upbringing might be the product of being the only male child in his family and being ostracized due to his species. He is aware of it though, and expresses an interest in gaining more confidence with the listener's help.
  • Smelly Skunk: A recurring bit concerning Oreo, but it's downplayed since he never actually sprays. Oreo does describe himself as having the distinct scent of "old books and slight cheddar" but it's not described as being unpleasant, though it is apparently thick enough that he cautions the listener about starting to smell like him if they're in close proximity too much. As well, his scent powers allow him to make his scent into virtually anything he wants and he prefers pleasant ones. While he does describe people doing things like holding their noses around him or giving him a wide berth, it's likely more Fantastic Racism than anything else.
  • Split Personality: Oreo develops one after being hit in the head with a magical copy of, of course, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The resulting second personality, Hydrox, is more or less the polar opposite of Oreo, being very bold & forward and eagerly flirting with the listener. While he only comes out whenever Oreo gets hit in the head with said book he still exists between those instances within Oreo's subconscious, and he & Oreo are aware of each other to at least some degree.
  • Touched by Vorlons: Oreo is not inherently magical, but presiding over the bookshop for so long gave him powers that he's still learning how to control.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Oreo loves tea, describing his tea collection as "stupid big". One whole episode focuses on him introducing the listener to brewing & drinking teas, and it's his go-to offer to them whenever there's down time.
  • Visible Odor: Oreo's scent manipulation powers manifest as visible scent shapes, which he can actually use as constructs to physically interact with things.
  • Weaponized Stench: Albeit not in the way one would expect from a skunk. Oreo's scent (regardless of whether it actually smells bad or not) can be used to hypnotically influence people who smell it, usually creating an effect related to whatever scent he chooses to give off in the moment. Though Oreo strongly opposes doing this even with a person's con"scent", he doesn't mind using it to help the listener feel better once he figures out he can also hypnotize people to experience positive emotions. This extends to his scent constructs, which are usually used to perform helpful tasks. Contrariwise, Hydrox is more willing to use this ability for his own ends, though still not without the other party's consent or at least unless provoked into doing so.

    Calister
A naga barista at a coffee shop across the street from Belfry Books. Also becomes the listener's boyfriend.
  • Bizarre Alien Senses: He is very sensitive to heat. He can tell where people are hiding by their body heat. He also smells with his tongue.
  • What the Hell Is That Accent?: Calister's accent apparently is supposed to be Indian, but a lot of listeners disagree and have said it sounds German, Italian, Latino, or a weird mix of several accents. In the short story "Calister's Lunch Break" Susie the sheep can't figure out if his accent is middle eastern, Italian, or something else.

    Bryce
A magical, predatory binturong with a smooth southern accent.

    Bloop
A Faux Affably Evil part marsupial, part mollusk creature who acts friendly and goofy but is an unrepentant serial predator whose favorite prey are superheroes.
  • Villain Protagonist: Bloop is a supervillain who loves eating superheroes. But the audience is expected to root for him because he is cute, sexy, and funny too.

    Castor and Pollux
A pair of mice brothers, later brother and sister after Pollux starts identifying as female, who run a business called Mischief Inc.

    Pachy
A magical pink "elegator" girl who travels between dimensions using her powers to make people happy.

    Marzipan
A four-armed wingless dragon who kidnaps people on their birthday to his dimension. His voice sound very similar to Mad Hatter from Disney's Alice in Wonderland.

    Aibu
Part zebra, part gecko, part blob.
  • Blob Monster: Aibu is part-zebra and part-gecko, but appears to be made of yellow-brown goop.
  • Monster Roommate: Aibu is a weird Blob Monster who is part gecko and part zebra with a big appetite who moves into your appartment.

    Nzuri
A snow leopard.

    Fluffle
A friendly dragon.
  • Deadpan Snarker: He frequently makes snarky comments about the listener, but he does it in a laid-back friendly tone rather than a mean one.

Darkwitt's Characters

    Vincent and Selene Vaim
A pair of vampire bat siblings.
  • Clone by Conversion: Selene can turn people into clones of herself, initially expressing copies of her personality and slowly gaining more physical traits of hers over time.
  • The Comically Serious: Vincent plays this role whenever he interacts with Oreo due to Oreo's pure wholesomeness clashing with Vincent's sinister and sophisticated attitude.
  • Narcissist: Selene's narcissism is so powerful that she became a living meme. She can turn other people into loyal minions that look like her by infecting them with her personality like a virus.
  • Vampires Are Rich: The Vaim siblings are bat people and not actually vampires, but they are modelled after the typical idea of upper-class vampires. Vincent claims that his ancestors actually inspired a lot of tropes about vampires.
  • The Vamp: Selene uses her seductive beauty to temp others into letting her turn them into clones of herself.
  • The Virus: Selene can turn people into clones of herself called Vaimlings by hypnotizing and biting them.
  • White Sheep: Although they are far from being good people, they are outcast from their much eviler family for not following their old traditions.

    Darkwitt
An unseen character who communicates through a holographic silhouette with cyan outlines shaped like some form of canine. Has an army of mind-controlled orca drones. He is fighting a secret war against several other corporations that are also using various forms of mind control. Originally was trying to take over the world before a benevolent secret society called The Facilitators recruited him.
  • Brainwashing for the Greater Good: The first of his orca drones were originally orca gangsters that he recruited to his cause. He is aware that using mind control is unethical but he genuinely wants to make the world a better place and his drones are eventually given the option to have their original personalities restored or given an entirely new identity.
  • Hard Light: His holographic form is able to touch thing and he states that he is made of hard light.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: While he isn't medium aware, in the audios where he talks to the viewer, he recognizes that the viewer isn't a real person and perceives them as a mute, incorporeal entity that feeds on pleasant interactions and would normally be perceived as what the character they are interacting with wants to see, referencing how characters in an ASMR Video can't actually perceive the viewer, nor the viewer actually speak back to them. He even calls the viewer a Silent Protagonist.
  • Noble Demon: Uses mind control and turns people into mindless drones and was planning to take over the world, but he is Benevolent Boss to his minions and is quiet upset went they get hurt.
  • Sinister Silhouettes: Darkwitt communicates through a hologram that appears as a canine silhouette with cyan outlines.
