Due to the nature of the original series RR is based off of, and the story itself, all spoilers are unmarked. You Have Been Warned.
As the story is still in progress, some tropes are subject to change.
Guests
Emile
Talent: Ultimate Let's Player
The happy-go-lucky Let's Player everyone at Kiibocon knows, and leader of TheRunawayGuys. He started off unaware of the full situation has he had mysteriously passed out before the story began, and only came to after everyone else had already investigated. Due to this, he's also the most out of the loop of what's going on before MonoBagel shows up and announces what's going on at Kiibocon.
- Colour-Coded for Your Convenience: In non-colored artwork, and his associated color carried over from TRG is red. Even his shirt is red!
- Decoy Protagonist: The combined Chapter 1 and Prologue paints him to be the main character, having the story be told from his perspective. He doesn't even last until the end of the Daily Life before getting killed.
- Exotic Eye Designs: His irises sport an x-shapped pattern, rather than a standard ring of color.
- Hope Bringer: Masae describes him as the one that can keep everyone positive given his bubbly personality and optimism.
- Idiot Hair: In all RunawayRonpa based artwork, he prominently sports one. This is to help sell his position as protagonist, at least until his death.
- Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: His cause of death was a single stab from a knife to his gut.
- Like a Duck Takes to Water: He doesn't seem too concerned about suddenly being told that, in order to leave Kiibocon, he needs to kill one of his friends. Much to Masae's surprise.
- Sacrificial Lion: To contribute to the "Anyone Can Die" setting of the story, he is the first one killed.
Masae
Talent: Ultimate Artist
The first person Emile sees once waking up. Due to have been with Emile while everyone else explored Kiibocon, she's just as out of the loop as he is when the Killing Game is announced.
- Amateur Sleuth: Takes up this role in order solve the mystery of Emile's murder.
- Badass Adorable: She's very pretty, but not someone you really want to cross.
- Colour-Coded for Your Convenience: Non-colored artwork always depicts her in a shade of teal.
- Dark Is Not Evil: She dresses in practically all black, but she's the first to step up and watch over Emile while he was passed out.
- Deuteragonist: Starts off this way alongside Emile. Until it's revealed at the start of Chapter 1's Deadly Life that he was the one that was killed.
- Exotic Eye Designs: Her artwork depicts her with a cross-hair design to her irises.
- Hell-Bent for Leather: Her standard outfit is black jeans, black shoes, and a rockin' leather jacket that's always zipped up. The only splash of color to her whole design is a bright yellow t-shirt under her jacket.
- Idiot Hair: All of the artwork drawn for RunawayRonpa with Masae shows her with quite the subtle one. This establishes she's at least important to the story, until the reveal that she's actually the protagonist.
- Only Known by Their Nickname: No one ever refers to her by anything other than "Masae", despite most of the cast being extremely close friends.
- Purple Prose: Masae's personal narration of the story is a lot more descriptive than Emile's, with a lot more detail to what she's thinking about what she sees.
- Walking Spoiler: Knowing Masae is the actual protagonist is quite the spoiler since it's publicly advertised that Emile is, even down to character design following usual DanganRonpa conventions.
Jon
Talent: Ultimate Livestreamer
Lucah's husband, one of Emile's closest friends, and the second-in-command of TheRunawayGuys. He is among the least thrilled to be in the Killing Game, but is still determined to get out alive.
- Colour-Coded for Your Convenience: Jon is depicted with a deep blue color in non-colored artwork, which is carried over from his association with the color in TRG. He even has a splash of blue with the t-shirt under his hoodie.
- Dark Is Not Evil: Much like Masae, his outfit is mostly consistent of darker colors, but not quite to the same extent as her. Yet, he still cares about everyone else at Kiibocon and is very protective of his wife.
- Frames of Reference: He wears mostly-rounded glasses, yet he has one of the harshest personalities in the story. At least, if you're MonoBagel. When confronted with the murder of his closest friend, his more empathetic side comes to light. Especially when he makes sure Masae wants to see the body.
- First-Name Basis: Is the only one in the whole story with the right to call Lucah by her real name, Reese. Justified, as they are married.
- Happily Married: To Lucah, and one of only two sets of characters married at all.
- Iconic Outfit: His attire is a reference to his "classy hobo" hoodie, minus the toque.
- Icy Blue Eyes: Helps cement some of his jerkish tendencies.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He is easily ticked off, but is willing to cooperate with everyone else to help escape Kiibocon with as few casualties as possible.
- Tender Tears: He spends most of Chapter 1's Deadly Life quietly crying as he mourns.
Reese
Talent: Ultimate Charm Maker
Jon's wife, and among the oldest of the entire cast. She has a kind, motherly disposition and is usually trying to keep people calm.
- Colour-Coded for Your Convenience: In all uncolored artwork, Lucah is depicted with a deep orange, much like her hair color.
- First-Name Basis: Unlike most of the cast, Lucah is rarely reffered to by name, however; Jon invokes this trope. Justified, as it is her husband.
- Happily Married: To Jon, and one of only two sets of characters married at all.
- Miko: Her outfit and talent invoke the idea that she is at least emulating one.
- Older Than They Look: True to life, she looks much younger than she actually is.
- Shout-Out: One of few characters who's outfit was not based off their usual attire. Rather, her outfit is a reference to the characters Lora and Haze from Xenoblade Chronicles 2.
