Alkari

'The Alkari Sovereignty is an organized warrior society that prizes honor in battle.'

The Alkari are an honorable race with a large bonus to ship defense and initiative. Their arch-nemesis are the Mrrshan due to cultural differences.

  • Feudal Future: The Alkari did not switch to feudalism, rather retained it since their society was feudal even before they unified and invented space travel.

  • So What Do We Do Now?: World peace and a society dependent on war for individuals to advance up the social hierarchy do not mix well. This is in fact what drives the Alkari into space, the chance to meet new enemies to fight as they change their society to avoid chaos during periods of peace.

Bulrathi

'The fiercely loyal Bulrathi value both strength and wisdom in their philosopher-king.'

The Bulrathi are an aggressive race that is unquestionably the best in ground combat.

Darloks

'The Darloks are unnatural and secretive wraiths, originating from another dimension'

The Darloks are the best at spying. This means nobody trusts them.

  • Dimensional Traveler: The Darloks unwittingly became them when they were transported to this dimension.

  • Dark Is Not Evil: They may look scary, but this is simply how they look in this dimension, and they are not really "evil" by most means.

Humans

'The silver-tongued Humans are masters at convincing others to serve Human interests.'

  • Humans Are Diplomats: Deconstructed. Humans are the best diplomats in the galaxy, but they are that because they are highly manipulative, not peace-loving or noble.

  • Humans Are Bastards: Humans are malicious and manipulative to alien races.

Klackons

'A species with a single controlling mind, the industrious Klackon is inscrutable to outsiders.'

The Klackons are one of the strongest races in the game.

  • Hive Mind: The Klackon race is controlled by a single entity with no concept of individuality.

  • Hive Queen: Averted. The hivemind is an unexplained emergent property natural to the Klackon race.

  • I Just Want to Have Friends: The Klackon consciousness simply wants to find something like itself in a universe full of strange aliens.

Meklars

'The citizens of the Meklar Dominion seek perfection and immortality through technology.'

The Meklar are often erratic but can operate more factories per planet than any other race. This means they are excellent for playing tall, though this bonus somewhat declines in it's usefulness and it only gives the possibility of more factories, so you still have to spend BC to build them and deal with all the ecological issues that result from having so many factories (made worse since the Meklar are bad at planetology).

  • Immortality Seeker: The greatest dream of the Meklar is achieving eternal life.

  • Master Computer: The Mainframe, wise beyond all levels of understanding and possessing intelligence beyond measure. It commands Meklar society.
