* BlackSheep: Bitterly reflects that her mother won't visit her in prison. To add insult to injury her mom still visits Barbara, who is just as responsible for [[spoiler: Debbie's murder]] as Carol is.

* KickTheDog: Does a lot of it herself, but is on the receiving end of it by the sociopathic guard Humphrey when he keeps mistreating her in the interrogation waiting room. While this would usually qualify as KickTheSonOfABitch due to her abhorrent racism, the fact that it could have been anyone else and that it goes way overboard qualifies as this.

* ReformedBully: The series finale reveals that Sankey has been reading Rising Out of Hatred, a book by a former white supremacist detailing his growth and departure from those beliefs. Sankey also shares a haiku she wrote for Japanese-Scottish inmate Soso, implying she may have more than friendly feelings toward her.

* KarmicDeath: [[spoiler: She and Barb's death at the hands of each other was a long time coming since the two killed their little sister Debbie years ago over a petty reason with Carol's death being more slow and painful.]]

* BelatedBackstory[=/=]NoodleIncident: In Season 5 [[spoiler:her visit to Nicky acting as therapist reveals that, presumably, her pet was blown up by her abusive ex-boyfriend in a botched attempt to kill the neighbor. [[DeadpanSnarker Nicky assures her it's a tale as old as time]], but she's gotta let go. She perks up and thanks Nicky for helping her move past her grief.]]

* NotSoDifferent: From her husband, as he was a cult leader before his followers left aside from Norma. She kills him in anger over him pushing her too far, but later Norma is the center of a cult in prison herself.

* NotSoDifferent: Not that she's aware, but for all her racism and Islamophobia, [[spoiler:Sankey and Alison Abdullah both [[RealWomenDontWearDresses share ideas about how to raise their daughters]], and struggle with their partners sleeping with other women after agreeing to a [[{{Polyamory}} polyamorous relationships.]]]]

Although since Ouija and her group are the thugs of the Spanish Harlem, it's also an instance of NotSoDifferent, and in the end of season 5 [[spoiler:the Neo-Nazis and them team up to resist the forces storming the prison]].

* JerkWithAHeartOfJerk: She's genuinely friendly to Nicky when the latter helps her deal with her hallucinations and, in the last flashback of that same episode, she apparently has a change of heart about [[spoiler: killing her little sister and warns her to run to the car to escape from Carol]]. All of this makes it look like maybe she's actually a decent person. But it turns out [[spoiler: she was[[BaitTheDog getting Debbie back into the car was part of the plan to kill her]], and she only sees Nicky as another pawn for her gang.]]

* YourCheatingHeart: [[spoiler: Finds out her boyfriend his started a relationship with another woman. She's heartbroken.]]

* DumbBlonde: Subverted. She seems rather dim, and considering Pennsatucky is the brains of the operation, that should say something about Leanne's intelligence. However, in Season 3 it's revealed that she's an Amish so it may be that a lot of her trouble is from lack of exposure as opposed to intelligence. Confirmed when she's shown able to understand and speak (Pennsylvania) German with Poussey in one instance.

* HiddenDepths: She might seem like a dim follower, and she is, but it stems from a rather complex and even tragic life filled with internal conflict. To wit: she's Amish. She went on ''Rumspringa'' and fell into the midst of a SexDrugsAndRockAndRoll-fueled meth ring run by ''other'' Amish and ex-Amish youths. But she decided to ''go back'' to the church, and was ready to lead the bonneted life and get baptized--but then the cops found the sole remnant of her ''Rumspringa'' life, which unfortunately included several baggies of methamphetamine. Even that didn't directly lead to her arrest; the cops planted a wire on her and sent her to inform on the ring of her former friends. When the kids get arrested, the other Amish in the community shun her and her family--because sinners or no, the kids she sent to prison were their children. ''That'' leads Leanne to run away from home, to spare her parents the shame; she presumably is arrested sometime thereafter.

* {{Hypocrite}}: Leanne cuts Pennsatucky off in Season 2 when she realizes how much nicer it is around without prison without the girl stirring up drama. Leanne herself quickly takes Pennsatucky's place as a vindictive bully for the rest of the series. That is, when she's not too high to function.
* IneffectualSympatheticVillain: Leanne doesn't seem all that bad, and is mostly a subordinate to Pennsatucky. She gets less villianous but more effectual come Season 3, in regards to Norma's new "religion" and how seriously she takes it.

* PoliticallyIncorrectVillain: Unlike Pennsatucky, she never seems to think about her racism and homophobia, and seems to equally despise Black and Asian inmates. Interestingly enough though, when Pennsatucky referred to Soso as "Ching-chong China doll", Leanne chastised her, telling her that she's actually Japanese-Scottish. Leanne is also shown to be friendly with Poussey who is both black and gay. It's possible she only uses racism and homophobia to antagonize those she doesn't like (an example being that she initially defended Soso from Pennsatucky's racist remark when they were somewhat friendly but then makes racist remarks towards her once their relationship sours).

* ThoseTwoGirls: With Angie, from Season 2 onwards. They are usually seen together as comic relief. Often bordering on ThoseTwoBadGuys but they're largely too ineffective to be seen as true threats.
