Guardian of the Southwest, a soft-spoken and socially awkward man who desperately wants to fit in despite his intimidating looks.
  • Big Damn Hero: In his last Mandala Board chapter, he's the first to notice a fire starting in Kendatsuba's room and preventing the temple from burning down, and later gets angry at Kendatsuba for his carelessness. He's then afraid that his outburst would drive people away from him, but everyone regards him as a hero.
  • Cute Monster Guy: He's a type of monster and often complains about looking too scary, but in practice he isn't designed any less attractive than other Buddhas.
  • Face of a Thug: He has many grievances with the fact he has a naturally intimidating face, and wishes people would not judge him for it.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: He really wants to get along with everyone else, carries around an instruction manual for doing just that, and constantly tries to learn from more charismatic Buddhas.
  • In the Hood: A hooded jacket with white fur trim in normal attire, and a hooded jersey in internal affairs wear.
  • The Rival: Possibly Sanshi – he seems more dismissive of Rasetsu than most and is seemingly the only one Rasetsu isn't concerned about alienating.
  • Shrinking Violet: Very shy, painfully socially awkward and has intense trouble making friends.
  • Tsurime Eyes: Has perpetually scowling eyes, a sharp contrast to his personality.
  • The Un-Smile: He cannot smile to save his life, and any time he tries to, it ends up looking weird and forced.

Rarity: Gold (5)
Voiced by: Chiharu Sawashiro
Type: Deva (天)
Element: Fire (火)
Illustrated by: Shima Mashima
The god of fire who guards the Southeast, a kind and friendly elderly man.
  • Cast from Calories: The reason for his obsession with butter and fatty food – in order to use his fire, he needs to have eaten a lot of fat beforehand to fuel it.
  • Expy: Of Mikazuki Munechika – dubs himself a "jijī" and has an easygoing if not eccentric and airheaded personality. He even has the infamous hearty "hahaha" laugh.
  • Fire/Water Juxtaposition: He's close with Suiten despite their elements' canceling each other out. He occasionally complains that being near Suiten makes it hard for him to use his powers.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: With Suiten – he was the only one befriending him when the latter suffered from loneliness from losing all his memory.
  • Older Than They Look: Looks like someone in his thirties, but is in fact an elderly man (as much as ageless deities can truly be old or young) with low physical strength.
  • One-Note Cook: He's best at grilling potatoes.
  • Playing with Fire: The world-famous Indian fire god who enjoys setting stuff on fire.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Being a fire deity and thus needing fuel, he loves butter or fat in general.

  • Epic Flail: He fights with an orb attached to a long chain. The orb makes it look like a flail, but the length of the chain and the way it's wielded in battle makes it look like a whip.
  • Night and Day Duo: Night to Nittenshi's Day.
  • Solar and Lunar: Lunar to Nittenshi's Solar.
     51 – Nittenshi | Sūrya/Āditya (日天子)

  • Antiquated Linguistics: He speaks in a slightly archaic, stilted and samurai-like speech pattern.
  • Differently Dressed Duplicates: Not only are he and Tamon differently dressed, they don't look remotely alike.
  • Good Old Ways: Given the modern setting and the behavior of the rest of the cast, there's something decidedly "retro" and period-like about him compared to them, speaking in archaisms and dressing in Taishō era clothing for internal affairs.
  • Holy Halo: Has one in the shape of the Wheel of Dharma behind his head. Like Dainichi's, his can also be taken off.
  • Japanese Pronouns: First-person ware, second-person kiden.
  • Literal Split Personality: He and Tamon are the same person – they're different names for one Vaiśravaṇa – but they exist as two separate entities alongside one another in this universe.
Bishamon: Tamon at once is me and is not. However, our origin is the same.
  • Little "No": Anyone on the main screen with Hana when he offers to take his kit off will display a range of interesting attendant replies. This guy however just says one word "no".
  • Trash of the Titans: Given that he literally is Tamon, he shares this quirk with him.
