Main Characters
Takamachi Toudou
The hero of the story, the average boy who deeply cares about his little sister Kana. During childhood he didn't like Kana due to the attention she got from their parents but after an incident started supporting her, even more than a real brother. He is always there for her when she needs him. Later in the game he becomes confused about his feelings for Kana.
- Big Brother Instinct: The whole premise of the game.
- The Faceless: While you can see him clearly in a few scenes (such as the image to the right), in the majority of them his back is turned to the camera, only part of his face is shown, or it's not shown at all.
- Get A Hold Of Yourself Man: You have the option to do this to Kana after she freaks out upon learning her prognosis.
- It's Personal: He still hates Yumi for humiliating him in elementary school, despite it nearly being ten years ago. He even comments that he's surprised he still hates her after all this time.
- My God, What Have I Done?: Has two of these realizations - one when Kana almost dies when they were children, and another when he realizes it's time to stop hating Yumi.
- Sanity Slippage: In one ending, he refuses to accept Kana's death and goes mad with sorrow. It takes Yumi to snap him out of it.
- Took a Level in Kindness: As a boy, he was rather hostile to Kana because he felt that she took up all of their parents' attention. A family trip where Kana almost dies causes him to change his views.
Kana Toudou
The heroine of the story. Because of renal insufficiencynote , she spends most of the time in the hospital. She does not have many friends, and is very dependent on her stepbrother.
- Go Out with a Smile: In the ending where she accepts her death, she does this while holding Taka's hand.
- She Who Must Not Be Seen: She makes a speaking cameo in another one of D.O.'s visual novels, Crescendo ~Eien Dato Omotte Ita Ano Koro~.
- Shrinking Violet: Being confined to a hospital bed for the majority of her life has not exactly done wonders for her social skills.
- Tareme Eyes: To highlight her shy, sweet nature.
Yumi Kashima
A girl who attends the same school as Taka. Taka liked her until an incident occurred between them in the fifth grade, after which he started hating her with a passion. She, however, has always pursued him.
- The Ace: Beautiful, smart, and athletic, which is why Taka was amazed that she was interested in him.
- The Atoner: She feels tremendous guilt over humiliating Taka in elementary school (intentionally or not), and for the last ten years has tried to make it up to him. This is particularly evident in one of the endings, when Taka goes mad with sorrow and Yumi refuses to give up on him. She eventually gets him to snap out of it with The Power of Love.
- The Determinator: After ten years, she still wants Taka - and only Taka - despite his long-lasting hate for her. She eventually succeeds to varying degrees, depending on the route.
- Her determination to stay with Taka until he snaps out of his Sanity Slippage after Kana dies also counts.
- My Greatest Failure: Not apologizing to Taka for humiliating him. Not like she didn't try, however.
