Sensui Kanzaki
Voiced by: Tetsuya Kakihara
A samurai who traveled from the early Edo period. As known as ‘Senningiri’ (thousand men slasher), he has cut down numerous enemies during the Sengoku Period with his twin swords of Japanese katana and Western sword. However, he, makes himself a commandment against killing now.
- Dual Wielding: Sensui fights with his katana Setsuomaru and a Western sword.
- Happily Adopted: He was adopted by Halberd after his clan was destroyed and raised him as a swordsman.
- I Choose to Stay: After being stung by a random Gibia, he decides to stay behind to fight off a horde of Gibia instead of going with Kathleen and Kenroku to the place unknown.
- One-Man Army: As soon as Sensui gets into battle, Gibia are sliced in the dozens.
- Mercy Kill: He decapitated Ayame in her mutated Gibia form since he doesn't want Renjiro to kill his daughter. If he did, he will regret it.
- Red Baron: Sensui used to be known as the Slayer of a Thousand, and he certainly lives up to the title.
- Red Eyes, Take Warning: Whenever Sensui is feeling particularly bloodthirsty, his eyes glow red.
- Sole Survivor: He's a sole survivor after his clan was massacred when he was a child.
- Tall, Dark, and Handsome: Sensui, who is taller than Kenroku and not bad looking at all.
- Tragic Keepsake: Sensei's western sword once belong to his former master Halberd after he died from an unknown illness when Sensei was in his teens.
Kathleen Funada
Voiced by: Yukiyo Fujii
An optimistic biracial girl, not good at fighting. But she manages to save Sensui and Kenroku as they have just arrived at the modern world. She's Dr. Yoshinaga's assistant.
- Disappeared Dad: Kathleen's father died when she was four years old.
- Hero-Worshipper: Kathleen quickly becomes one for Sensui.
- Identical Stranger: According to Kenroku, Kathleen bears a great resemblance to his lover Okuni except with black hair.
- We Will Meet Again: After Sensui got stung by a random Gibia, she tells him if he survive and didn't transforms into a Gibia, they will meet again in the near future.
Kenroku Sanada
Voiced by: Hiroki Tochi
A ninja who traveled from the early Edo period with Sensui. A blood relative to Sanada Family, the Sengoku-daimyo of Shinano Domain. He is cheerful and energetic, fighting against Gibias with his bombs.
- Combat Pragmatist: As expected from a ninja, Kenroku uses any weapon at his disposal, like wires and hand grenades.
- Ninja: Kenroku mentions he's a shinobi, and seems capable of reacting so fast it looks as if he teleported.
- Razor Wire: Kenroku manages to kill a Gibia by binding it with some wires. It's still exhausting for him trying to hang a monster the size of a horse.
- Tragic Keepsake:
- The sickles once belong to his wife's brother who died from a poison dart.
- After Yukinojyo's death, he now wields his club as the last reminder of him.
Yukinojyo Onikura
Voiced by: Michio Hazama
A warrior monk from Sengoku period who is good at fighting with clubs. Bold, firm, but delicate characteristics.
- Dies Wide Open: In episode 9, he died from his wounds after he fought a several Gibiates. He dies, with his eyes wide open. Sensui gently closes them in respect after Yukinojo fought to the end.
- Gentle Giant: Yukinojo is huge and incredibly strong, yet he's a pretty cool guy who blushes when complimented by Kathleen's mother.
- Killed Offscreen: He dies from his wounds off screen against several Gibiates. He is the first main character to get kill off.
- Kill the Ones You Love: He was forced to kill Yurika off-screen before she fully transform into a Gibia.
- Love at First Sight: He fell in love with Kathleen's mother Yurika at first sight after he arrive in the modern era.
- Tragic Keepsake: The club he uses once belong to his old friend who died in the battlefield in the Sengoku period.
Ayame Hatonami
Voiced by: Hiroki Nanami
A former police worker and the daughter of Renjiro Hatonami and an unnamed Chinese woman.
- Action Girl: Ayame not only is very good with her tonfas, she's also very good with a shotgun.
- Amazonian Beauty: She's pretty and very toned, as Kathleen notices.
- Calling the Old Man Out: She calls out her father about he and his men would rather steal food from the survivors than protecting them from the Gibia.
- Friendless Background: During her early childhood, she's unable to make friends due to her heritage and her father is a yazata. The kids in her school often bullied her and she too shy to fight back.
- Kill the Ones You Love: Two years ago, she was forced to killed her mother after she got infected by a Gibia.
- Covered in Scars: Her face, arms and midsection have many scars from fighting mostly alone against the Gibia.
- Off with His Head!: Sensui decapitated her in her mutated Gibia form after Yoshinaga injected her with a powerful Gibia virus.
Support Characters
Yurika Funada
Voiced by: Emi Ito
The mother of Kathleen Funada.
- Dead Man Writing: After she was stung by Gibiate, she wrote a letter to her daughter about her reasoning for leaving. She wrote if she hasn't been turned into Gibiate, she will return to her. She wishes Kathleen to continue to live on without her if she is infect with Gibiate virus (Sadly, she got infected and was in a semi-transformation into a Gibiate).
- Happily Married: With Robert McDonald before his death.
- Killed Offscreen: She was decapitated by Yukinojyo off-screen after her semi-transformation into a Gibiate.
- The Mentally Ill: While Yurika can act normal and professional most of the time, trauma has made her incapable of differentiating humans from Gibiate.
- Oblivious to Love: She's unaware of Yukinojyo's romantic feelings for her.
Renjiro Hatonami
Voiced by: Kouji Ishii
The leader of Galients, the outlaw gang. He used to be the boss of mafia. Having broken the prison, he attacks Sensui Kanzaki and other people for food, with his weapon of Nagadosu. He is the father of Ayame Hatonami.
- Outliving One's Offspring: His only daughter is killed by Sensui as a mercy kill after Dr. Yoshinaga turns Ayame into a mutated Gibia.
Guren Soshigaya
Voiced by: Hozumi Gouda
The number two of Galients, having followed Renjiro Hatonami since he was a gangster. He fights Gibia by using his two pistols, he is unrivaled in speed and accuracy.
- Mercy Kill: He kills Hamuro before he transform into a Gibia after being stab by a mutated Gibia Ayame.
Hidenori Sakuma
Voiced by: Fukushi Ochiai
A member of Galients, who used to be a bomber. Because of Renjiro Hatonami's manhood, he became Renjiro's little brother in jail.
Katsunori Hamuro
Voiced by: Ryōhei Kimura
A member of Galients, who used to be a fisherman. He had happened to kill a friend in the fight, and been sent to prison then.
Isao Mikimoto
Voiced by: Hiromi Sakimoto
A member of Galients, who used to be a track and field athlete. He has sympathy with Renjiro Hatonami and Guren Soshigaya because of their manhood.
Antagonists
Dr. Yoshinaga
Voiced by: Shūichi Ikeda
A scientist who is creating a cure of Gibiate virus and the victims who got transform into Gibiate.
- Even Evil Has Loved Ones: He loves Metora deeply and willing to create a cure for her. However, after Metora is killed by Sensui and the others, he was devasted.
- Evil All Along: In episode 11, it is revealed Yoshinaga's plan to create cure was a lie, and he has no intention to turn Gibia back into humans. Yoshinaga's true goal is to create a drug to enhance Metora's intelligent and changing her back only.
- Human Alien: He reveals this to the others in episode 11 as he explains his true intentions.
