Characters / Flashpoint 2: Advent Solaris

Go To

This page is for the characters that appear in Flashpoint 2: Advent Solaris.

NOTE: As this fanfiction is the adaptation of a video game storyline from 2006, and also a sequel to the last movie in a series, some things that are spoilers on the trope pages for these two pieces of media may be unmarked here under the assumption that you've played/seen them already. Keep in mind that reading this fic, those things (like the ending of the movie it follows) are unavoidable.

Sonic Characters

     Shadow the Hedgehog
  • Adaptational Badass: The largest example of it by far, as in this fic it is shown he is able to be roughly equal to the likes of Wonder Woman & Superman in a fight, and he also has a particular scene where he survives a point-blank blast of the infamous omega beams; he not only survives it, but also absorbs the energy and uses it to power a chaos blast.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Eh, he's not necessarily a "nice guy" per say in the way you're likely thinking but he is shown to actually view Rouge and Omega like friends and show some (even if minor) concern about others he's interacted with before rather than the way he is depicted in some modern Sonic media. This is really more a reversion back to his Pre-06 depictions rather than a true change though.
  • Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?: While debatable due to the expansions to his backstory, this dude despite being appearance-wise a 4-something foot all rodent is responsible for:
  • Loner-Turned-Friend: Is this to Rouge & Omega, with whom he forms Team Dark.
  • Ultimate Life Form: As is true of the Sonic the Hedgehog video games and related media, Shadow is outright referred to as this. In-fic, this is explored and it's revealed he was ordered to be created by a secretly-Apokoliptian run G.U.N. to serve as a successor to Doomsday & the Paradooms, using Solaris(read: Darkseid & Trigon)'s own DNA.

     Sonic the Hedgehog

     Knuckles the Echidna

     Miles "Tails" Prower

     Rouge the Bat
  • All Asians Know Martial Arts: Technically since she was originally created by a team of Japanese video game developers, and happens to use martial arts kicks as her primary move set.
  • Heroic Seductress: At least, if you're a furry. Technically she's an anti-hero but still applies.
  • Implied Love Interest: Debatably is this to Shadow.
  • Irony: She's the one who freed Jason Todd from his enthrallment. A literal bat woman saving a member of the batfamily from mind control.
  • Shout-Out: The fic draws multiple parallels between her and Catwoman as Barry & Wally get to learn more about her - some subtle and some blunt.
  • The Smurfette Principle: Was this for Team Dark from the beginning all the way until Barda's heel-face turn.
  • Throw Down the Bomblet: In addition to martial arts, as she did in 06, she will occasionally deploy tiny bombs/grenades when in combat.

     E- 123 "Omega"
  • Deus ex Machina: In Chapter 13, was this for Rouge & Oliver when they trapped in the depths of the Changeling hive. Was also this for Shadow in Chapter 7, though the scene where Rouge sent him on that path is recounted in Chapter 8 right afterwards.
  • Grew Beyond Their Programming: Was originally built and programmed by Eggman to "guard" the chamber Shadow was sealed in prior to his waking up, but has since become basically fully self-aware and chooses to remain a loyal friend to Shadow & Rouge as a founding member of Team Dark; that's not to mention the fact he's basically changed his own objectives to being a thorn in Eggman's side.
  • Just in Time: In both Chapter 7 and Chapter 13, appears literally just in time to intervene in both Shadow & Barry's first battle with Mephiles, and later on in time to stop changelings from literally ripping Rouge & Oliver apart.
  • Killer Robot: With how many weapons he has for his arsenal, you don't wanna be on his bad side.
  • Machine Monotone: As he is a robot, his voice is described as it is in the game - for the most part very, well, monotone with very little variation.
  • Mistaken for Betrayal: Just as happened in the game, there is a scene in which Omega drops the bombshell that he helped imprison Shadow in the apocalyptic future, which almost causes a rift between Shadow and the rest of Team Dark - though thanks to Wally this was averted.
  • Robot Buddy: For Shadow & Rouge.
  • The Big Guy: Of Team Dark, as usual.
  • The Cavalry: Has a knack for filling this purpose when other members of Team Dark are endangered and separated from him for a time.
  • Troubled Backstory Flashback: Has one in Chapter 12, when he reveals that he was ordered by Granny Goodness in the future to seal Shadow away, something which Mephiles coerced him into revealing.

     Duchess Elise III
The adaptation of the Princess of Soleanna from Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 - many of the same tropes apply to her as with her counterpart, though there are some differences - namely in this adaptation she starts going by Duchess rather than Princess from Chapter 6 onward.

  • Adaptation Expansion: Is expanded as a character in the fic compared to her original game depiction, with Chapter 6 being devoted to more of her youth prior to the events at the Festival of the Sun. While this doesn't really change her overall role in the story, it does at least flesh her out just a bit more.
  • Adaptation Name Change: Technically a title change, but the fic makes her a Duchess rather than a Princess or a Queen after Chapter 6, which is in line with typical royal titles as her father (and predecessor) was a Duke and not a King.
  • Adaptational Wimp: The barriers she could project do not appear to be an ability in the fic. Though this is justified in a sense as that ability was largely only for gameplay purposes anyway.
  • And I Must Scream: As with her game counterpart, she is unable to cry due to the fact her father sealed the flames of disaster inside of her, with the stipulation being she will release the flames into the world (again, as Iblis) into the world upon the event.
  • Damsel in Distress: As with the game, Sonic has to repeatedly save her from Eggman. Hell, even Espio gets to save her once, replacing Amy from the original game.
  • Driven to Suicide: As in the original game, at one point she tries to free herself from Eggman by jumping off the side of his egg-mobile. However this is also implied to be technically averted, as the narration highly implies she only jumped because she saw Sonic coming and figured he'd catch her.
  • Emotionless Girl: Same as her original game counterpart; though she is very kind and sweet in general rather than cold, she has to watch her emotions careful so as to not release Iblis. Sonic however did help get her to open up more before his adventure in Soleanna was cut short.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: As with her original counterpart, she really just wants to feel like herself - not as a Duchess or as a walking plot device for Eggman & Mephiles.
  • Lady-In-Waiting: Both Anna and Sophia, extremely minor characters from the game, reprise their roles as Elise's ladies-in-waiting during the fic, with Anna being featured more prominently than Sophia.
  • Living MacGuffin: Is pretty much a walking, talking plot device in the eyes of Eggman and Mephiles. The flames inside her are what the two of them both want for the endgame plans. As a result, Eggman is constantly kidnapping her.
  • Neutral Female: Whenever Silver interrupts her and Sonic's adventure, as she is not precisely powerful enough to join in, she mostly just ends up standing there clutching her hands in concern. Her game counterpart was the same way.
  • Princess Classic: As with her game counterpart, is a kind and wise ruler who is devoted to her country and it's people.
  • Sealed Inside a Person-Shaped Can: As with her game counterpart, is used as a vessel to seal Iblis, though it doesn't seem to actually have any real control over her at all.
  • Stepford Smiler: Her father told her to literally not cry about anything, ever. Even if it's for a good reason (it would cause an Apocalypse How), still.

     Silver the Hedgehog
  • Kid from the Future: Like always.
  • Mind over Matter: As to be expected of him, has psychokinesis/telekinesis powers just as he does in the original game this story is adapting it's storyline from.
  • Minor Major Character: Despite being one of the original game's core three playable character with a full story arc of his own, Silver is largely a minor character in this fic and appears only sporadically when the time comes for him to intrude on Shadow or Sonic’s arcs. It’s not until Chapter 19 that Silver is finally given his own focus chapter and is set to later on unite with the rest of the heroes.
  • Off Screen Moment Of Awesome: A side-effect of the Minor Major Character status, most of his story arc remain off-screen in Advent Solaris.

     Blaze the Cat
  • Ascended Extra: Her role in the story is increased from the original game in which she was little more than a background character, namely in that she is shown to be more actively assisting Silver in his version of Radical Train and even accompanied him to the past with Shadow - in the original game she was absent from that segment of the plot and only reunited with Silver afterwards.
  • Cats Are Mean: Played with/up to reader interpretation. She's seemingly friendly to Silver and respectful to Shadow after he reveals to them both the truth about Mephiles, but on the other hand she still relentlessly beat up Soleanna policemen, three of Sonic's friends, and was trying to attack Sonic himself before Shadow showed up. Justified only in that she was told Sonic was the reason her future is so craptastic.
  • Kid from the Future: As with the original version of the 06 storyline, this version of Blaze shares this trope with Silver.
  • Playing with Fire: As always, she has pyrokinesis.

     Mephiles the Dark
The main antagonist from not only Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), but also of this fanfiction as well as it's spin-off fic Talia's Downfall.
  • Abusive Parents: While he refers to Kalibak, Grayven and Raven as his children he doesn't seem to really care all too much about them. Though the abuse is strongest with Raven by far, as he had no qualms at full on mind controlling her to force her to do what he wanted.
  • Adaptational Badass: Is significantly more powerful than his video game counterpart; seems to have some ability to manipulate shadows, is capable of various degrees of mind control, has a plethora of psionic powers, can fire his own omega beams and even fire lightning from his fingertips. He's also described as incredibly durable, though his smaller size compared to his original identities & full form still make him more easily thrown around in a fight.
  • Big Bad: The one and only.
  • Color Motif: When the first battle with him occurs in Flame Core, all of the fire and lava in the area turn from red to blue, and only returns to red after he leaves.
  • Contrasting Sequel Antagonist: If you watch all of the movies and then read this fic as if it's a genuine sequel, Mephiles when compared to the prior villains such as Darkseid and Trigon is a massive change of pace. Both are giants compared to his 4 feet tall self, and both handled things differently - Trigon was a One-Man Army while Darkseid relied on his creations and had routine plans for conquest every so often. Mephiles however gets down on the front lines like Trigon and actively manipulates people and events as he sees fit, often tricking them into think he’s on their side at first. Besides that he also has a ridiculously powerful military at his disposal that rivals even Darkseid’s in size. In other words, Mephiles relies more on his brain and manipulation than the other two do.
  • Crossover Combo Villain: An interesting example, in that he's an existing character with an expanded/altered origin, in that he was created as a result of sending Darkseid and Trigon into "no destination at all", making him a combination of the two.
  • Defeat Equals Explosion: Averted.....for now.
  • Disney Villain Death: Averted; he was given a Palpatinian fall in Chapter 13 but easily survived it.
  • Emerging from the Shadows: How he introduces himself to Barry in Chapter 3.
  • Eye Beams: Being part Trigon and Darkseid, he is capable of using both the omega beams and presumably Trigon's eye beams as well.
  • For the Evulz: His title is the Dark, for crying out loud.
  • Hijacked by Ganon: Hijacks the main villain position from Eggman literally the chapter after the latter's introduction to the storyline.
  • Manipulative Bastard: When he first appears he tries to manipulate Barry into getting out of his way by promising to send him back to Apokolips War so he can attempt to undo the downer ending at the end of their war. When Barry isn't convinced enough to do that, he instead convinces him to come with him to the future of the new timeline so that he can manipulate the speedster into going after Shadow. Barry later figures that Mephiles was likely trying to just leave him to die and had no intention of even remotely helping him at all. He also has successfully convinced the likes of Blackfire, Talia al Ghul and Sinestro into being a part of his elite, possibly did something grim to the new timeline Raven regarding the Titans and League which has it's own unfortunate implications, and repeatedly has tried to manipulate Shadow into joining his side - only that last thing hasn't worked out yet.
  • Pintsized Powerhouse: Despite all of his power, he is still only around four feet all. That said, probably wouldn't be a good idea to mock him for it.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: In his case, a scepter. Though the scene where he was released from it in front of Shadow is off-screen, the story still makes it clear that at one point he was indeed sealed inside the scepter of darkness. For how long we're not told. Not that it matters for how long with the fact he can time travel, though.
  • The Chess Master: Oh boy, this is going to be a long lone. First off, he meddled heavily in the events of the films' timeline. Removed Oliver Queen, Dinah Lance, Kara Zor-El, M'gann M'orzz, Jason Todd and Wally West from the timeline (and possibly others) to ensure things would go as he wanted them to. Furthermore to this end he directly prevented Barda from warning the Justice League what was in store for them on Apokolips and appeared before Clark Kent in order to get him to invade Apokolips in the first place. That's not even getting into the Sonic timeline, in which his manipulation of Silver was basically an elaborate plot to get Sonic & Elise walking in that field together so he could launch his murder attempt against the former. Let alone the fact in an extremely ironic twist, he is also the mastermind responsible for funding/commissioning Gerald to construct the Space Colony ARK & Project SHADOW in the first place as well as the true identity behind Black Doom. It's also revealed in Talia's Downfall that he's the real demon behind the lazarus pits ( according to the films, he would have made them while still Trigon), and that using them gives him the ability to enter your mind - which itself would explain Nightwing's extreme insanity in Apokolips War and in hindsight the events of the third-to-last film in the timeline.
  • Time Travel: As in the original game, has the ability to time travel seemingly at will - with the benefit of not entirely reshaping the universe in the process of doing so.

DC Characters

     Barry Allen (The Flash)
The Flash, among the fastest humans alive, and a war-torn PTSD stricken hero who remembers the events through all of the DCAMU; from Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox through to Justice League Dark: Apokolips War. In the Apokolips War follow-up that is this fic, he serves as the initial focus character & one of the central protagonists.
  • Broken Hero: See the shell-shocked veteran trope below for more, but it's clear that he tries to be his old self but internally he is well beyond broken after all he's been through.
  • In Spite of a Nail: A particularly egregious example, as not only has his new timeline become so different that anthropomorphic animals exist as alegedly native earth creatures and fully co-exist with humanity, not only are the continents in different shape, not only are there entirely different countries, not only is there neither an Atlantis nor Themyscira (that have been discovered by the rest of the world, at least) - but Barry is still living in a "Central City", is still married to Iris, still lost his mom in the same way as before, and still exists at all. The only difference is that he started the new timeline without his powers, like he did after his first flashpoint.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Technically is presumed to be the reason the new timeline exists at all, as well as the fact that the old one happened as well - which would include all of the bad events. However, Shadow did point out Mephiles had been meddling in the timeline for quite a while, so this trope could be up in the air depending on how future chapters go. Nevertheless he is still responsible for going back in time and creating the previous flashpoints in the first place.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: While in the ruins of the future, hallucinations of the Paradooms prove too much for him to handle and he snaps after hallucinating one of them holding Iris' dead body. He has no mercy on them, even if they were merely hallucinations.
  • Shell-Shocked Veteran: Is absolutely shaken from the events of Apokolips War, suffering from from a serious case of post-traumatic stress disorder that manifests itself in the form of vivid hallucinations ranging from imagining the corpses of the dead from the end of the movie, the Paradooms that killed them, and even Darkseid himself. Even after he leaves the hellish future of the new timeline, he still has bouts of hallucinations such as in Chapter 11 where he is convinced for a moment that Paradooms are gonna show up and kill everyone at any moment. All in all, it's clear he is not well. Not having any familiar faces aside from Wally, and having the likeness of the rest be used against him (even pinning the blame for their deaths onto him) certainly does not help his mental & emotional state either.
  • Super-Speed: It's the flash, of course he has this power.
  • Think of the Children!: When he is reunited with Wally, he can't bring himself to tell his nephew about what happened in Apokolips War. This is largely due to Wally having not aged in 10 years, making it mentally & emotionally harder for him to do the deed.
     "Wally West" (Kid Flash)
The first Wallace West, who at one point vanished from the timeline completely. Appears in Chapter 7, joins the fight against Mephiles fully in Chapter 8. It later turns out he was a sleeper agent planted amongst the heroes by Mephiles.

  • Age Lift: In the movie he appeared in, he first appeared in a prolouge set 5 or so years prior to the events of the film, with 5 more years passing by the time of the final film. When Wally first appears he is still the same age as he was in the prolouge, as in 10 years younger than he technically should be. This makes it mentally harder for Barry to explain to him the events of Apokolips War. This is later all explained more realistically when he's revealed to not actually be Wally at all.
  • Mind Manipulation: When he first appears in Chapter 7, he was a mind controlled thrall to Mephiles and attacked Barry & Shadow while blaming Barry for the events of the films (which must have hurt his uncle's already damaged mental state); however he was freed from this mind control by the end of the chapter and recovered from the ordeal enough to rejoin the good fight in Chapter 8.
    • It's later revealed that he wasn't actually under mind manipulation at all, or at least not to the extent previously thought, and was actually purposely lying to his "uncle" and the other heroes in order to feign allegiance to them.
  • Mistaken Identity: The possibility of this is alluded to in Chapter 21, and ultimately confirmed in Chapter 23.
  • Shout-Out: His inclusion in the story and the explanation of where he went is a reference to the DC Rebirth relaunch - albeit highly altered to fit in with the narrative of the fic. Still, it's an obvious nod.
  • Super-Speed: Duh
  • The Bus Came Back: Initially thought to be this. It's later confirmed to not be the case.
    • To be fair, was originally intended to be the real Wally West, but after learning about the Word of God that the redheaded Wally didn't exist in the canonical DCAMU the author added the plot twist in response so that the fic would fit more seamlessly as the "canonical" "true" finale of the DCAMU.

     Oliver Queen (Green Arrow)
Introduced in Chapter 11, Green Arrow is a DC character from the old timeline who was absent in the DCAMU (despite his sidekick existing in it) for reasons explained in this fic. In Advent Solaris he is revealed to have been off-screen during the events of Justice League: War though thanks to the actions of a certain Mephiles he was removed from the timeline in the midst of things. From Chapter 11 onward he joins the fight against the demonic hedgie.

  • Ret-Gone: It’s established that when Mephiles removes someone from a timeline, history and even other people’s memories are rewritten to mostly or entirely forget about that person. This happened to Oliver as a result of Mephiles’ actions, which is why nobody ever looked for him. Only be encountering him again was he remembered.
  • Mistaken Identity: It's brought up by Sinestro in Chapter 23 that it's possible he's actually the Oliver from the Sonic timeline rather than from the DCAMU, but dismissed as irrelevant as it's asserted he's genuinely heroic nonetheless.

     "Red Hood"
Jason Todd. Though it was possible he existed and was simply not mentioned during the DCAMU films, he did not physically appear and as said had no mention in any of them (though he is of course known for being in unrelated DC animated films). He appears in Chapter 13 initially as a thrall to the big bad, but is freed and immediately turns against him by the end of the same chapter. He's later revealed to actually be Jericho.

  • Adaptational Villainy: When he's revealed to be Jericho, he's working with Mephiles for reasons currently unstated.
  • Ret-Gone: Was initially a deflection of the DCAMU Producer's Wordof God. Until Chapter 23 where it's revealed he was actually Jericho the whole time.
  • Mind Manipulation: Was initially under the enthrallment of the Bialyan Queen. Later revealed to have been responsible for putting everyone under a false memory spell to make them think he was Jason.
  • The Bus Came Back: He's revealed to be Jericho in Chapter 23, who was teased at the end of Teen Titans The Judas Contract but never appeared again afterwards. He's revealed here to have been courted by Mephiles in the time between movies.
  • The Voiceless: It's revealed he's Jericho in Chapter 23, who is an established non-verbal character. While how he was speaking in his disguise isn't explicitly addressed by the characters, he is described as having a speaker-like device worn around his neck which implies another villain was speaking through it rather than him talking himself.
     The Queen of Bialya
Also known as Talia al Ghul. Main Protagonist of the spin-off Talia's Downfall as well as a secondary antagonist in Advent. appeared in Son of Batman & Batman: Bad Blood.
  • Adaptation Name Change: Though implied and not actually stated, it can be inferred that she would technically be the New Timeline's rendition of Queen Bee, based on the way she dresses, the bee hive motif throughout her palace, and the fact she rules Bialya. However the narration never refers to her as Queen Bee but instead as "the Queen of Bialya" or just the Queen, until her real name is stated and it bluntly begins referring to her by said name.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: Given that this is the same Talia from the events of Batman: Bad Blood in which she was far more colder than she normally is in the comics, this is basically an unfortunate inevitability for her depiction in this fic.
  • Antagonistic Governor: This is to be her position in Mephiles' elite once he becomes Solaris and has Earth converted into New Apokolips, ruling in his name while he focuses on conquering the multiverse of course.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Despite some of the tropes above, Talia is really only this way because Mephiles essentially brainwashed her beyond a point of no return. Being the only one there for her after the ending of Batman: Bad Blood and telling her the things she wanted to her for what was quite possibly centuries, ontop of convincing her to let him "upgrade" her at some unknown point. She's only different from the thralls in that she's still in control of her actions.
  • Evil Matriarch: Is Queen of Bialya,a country already known for typically being not very benevolently run, as well as of the Changelings who are the fic's chief source of Nightmare Fuel. She's also to be the Supreme Governess of New Apokolips in the name of her dark lord - a position that nice people certainly wouldn't have.
  • Shout-Out: Two prime examples:
    • A more subtle example of this trope is that one must pay attention to the details given of the two outfits she's described wearing:
      • Her first one, appearing in a flashback during Chapter 12, is essentially the same outfit worn by the Queen Bee of Young Justice (2010), barring very minor differences.
      • Her second one, the one she uses in the present during Chapter 13, is similar in description to the outfit of Ludmilla from Bartok the Magnificent - albeit with a black-yellow color scheme.
    • The spin-off fic, Talia's Downfall, is named in reference to the Vergil's Downfall DLC for DmC: Devil May Cry.
  • The Bus Came Back: In Batman: Bad Blood, she received an ambiguous fate when Onyx attacked her during her get-away, yet in this fic is revealed to be perfectly alive as of Chapter 13. This also counts as Spared By Adaptation.
  • Time Travel: Is the same Talia from the events of Son of Batman and Batman: Bad Blood, as the events Komand'r insulted her for are events pertaining to those films, confirming that the Queen somehow evaded being reset by the Flashpoint.
  • Villain Protagonist: Of Talia's Downfall.
     Darkseid
The lord of Apokolips as well as the main antagonist of the DC Animated Movie Universe. Following the events of the final movie, Barry is convinced he doesn't really exist anymore - but yet that doesn't seem to stop the dude from living rent free in Barry's head.

  • Disc-One Final Boss: In Chapter 24 becomes the first of the major antagonists to be defeated after Mephiles sends Shadow to Apokolips with the express intention of having Shadow either kill Darkseid or die trying. Shadow ultimately succeeds.
  • Present Absence: His presence is very much still felt by Barry, who is still suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder due to the events of Justice League Dark: Apokolips War - hallucinating the dictator himself twice in Chapter 5, trying to angrily fight the hallucination both times, only to end up being defeated. He was lucky that the second hallucination was actually Shadow.
    • This trope becomes murky waters when the origin of Mephiles is revealed - technically Mephiles is Darkseid, or at least part of him.
    • Ultimately this trope is played straight in Chapters 1-15 though subverted in 16 when the old timeline is restored to a point prior to the prologue of the film, meaning Darkseid is technically now a present presence rather than an absent one.
  • Hijacked by Ganon: Launches an attempt to hijack the villain title from Mephiles in Chapter 21. It fails miserably and he is vanquished by a semi-combined effort of Shadow & Mephiles in Chapter 24.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Following a movie in which the entire plot was basically him winning and even getting off easy considering the ways some of his enemies died, his Karma Houdini Warranty has expired in this fic. Put into better detail in tropes found below.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: As of Chapter 23, virtually all of Darkseid's children have perished at the hands of the heroes & anti-heroes (mostly Shadow) all before they've even made contact with the big man himself. Statuses:
    • Kalibak: KIA. Killed by Shadow in Chapter 13.
    • Grayven: KIA. Killed by Shadow in Chapter 13.
    • Orion: MIA. Status unknown, presumably with New Genesis fighting Solaris.
    • Grail: KIA. Killed by Shadow in Chapter 23.
    • Death Spawn: KIA. Killed by Shadow & E-123 Omega in Chapter 23.
  • Kryptonite Factor: Radion, a weakness of his from the comics, is brought up by Barda in Chapter 21. Realizing that the heroes had finally learned of his weakness sent him into a rage.
  • Rasputinian Death: Manages to survive a mega nuke-sized chaos blast from a restraint level 0 Shadow, but soon after gets shot in the head with radion and just for good measure Mephiles uses the eclipse cannon to completely destroy Apokolips while Darkseid's body remained on it.
  • Trauma Conga Line: Yes, at long last, the big bad man himself falls victim to this trope. Discounting the events of Apokolips War which are irrelevant to this fic Darkseid has in a very short amount of time experienced all of his inner circle of elites betray him for Mephiles, witnessed the heroes gain knowledge of the one substance he's actually weak to, learned of his two eldest sons' demises, watched as his army was rendered useless via the Reach fleet and the heroes being prepared for the Paradooms the second time around, was met with the death of his only daughter, and it all culminated when in the end he was met with the total genocide of Apokolips' entire population, destruction of his tower, and last but not least him being shot in the head with radion followed up by the eclipse cannon being used on Apokolips, completely destroying his entire world as well as his body.
     Raven (New Timeline)
The version of Raven from the post-War timeline, who initially appears under her father's control but like most versions of herself that doesn't last the entire storyline. Unlike most of the DC characters, New!Raven does not technically have any prior appearances in the DCAMU, though physically resembles a replica of the DCAMU counterpart of herself.
  • Abusive Parents: What version of her doesn't have this trope in some way, shape or form?
  • Adaptational Backstory Change: Is the daughter of Mephiles (Solaris) rather than Trigon (though technically she still is Trigon's daughter anyway), and it is implied through her own words that she was spawned from her father's darkness rather than conceived with a human mother.
  • Adaptation Name Change: Possibly, as New!Raven is not referred to as Rachel at all, and given her changed backstory it's possible that she really is just flat out named Raven.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Does one in Chapter 13. After being fatally injured by Big Barda, in order to free Jason and Omega from her clutches, she is freed from her father's control and makes herself get back up just in time to approach her father while he's blasting at Team Dark with his finger-tip lightning. She takes advantage of his seemingly ignoring of her and picks him up, throwing him over the edge of the platform and triggering a massive room-wide explosion. However, she took the brunt of his electricity as a result and dies - or "dies", in Shadow's arms, melting into a puddle of darkness that then evaporates to the sound of a Raven's call.
  • Shout-Out: You've been living under one hell of a rock if you don't see that her actions in Chapter 13 are a blatant reference to Return of the Jedi.

Original Character(s)

     Lady Mairghread
Elise's maternal aunt who appears solely in Chapter 6 of the fanfiction, and is then never again mentioned by name afterwards. She's not even counted in the tags due to how little she actually appears in the story. Though technically not the only OC in the story (the others also only show up in that one chapter), she is the most important of the group.
  • Abusive Parents: In this case an aunt rather than a parent, she still captured this trope absolutely perfectly considering when Elise was only five years old she not only was incredibly rude to her but she also had her legally demoted from a duchess to a princess. Just out of spite.
  • Alpha Bitch: To Elise and her ladies in waiting.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: For Chapter 6; is put in her place when Eggman shows up to remind everyone who the real one is.
  • Evil Makes You Ugly: Partially justified as she had a habit of frequently smoking, but while in the past she is described as still relatively decent looking, in the present she is described as an extremely more wrinkled, prematurely aged woman with raspy voice included as a result of her aforementioned habit.
  • Evil Matriarch: Maternal aunt to Elise that bullies her like she's just walked out of Cinderella or something.
  • For the Evulz: Honestly seems to have no motivation for anything she does other than she just feels like it. She even mused about having a man's neck snapped just because he played an accordion song for her niece that said niece happened to like. Thankfully it's her who gets that fate instead.
  • Neck Snap: How she is removed from the story and from life, courtesy of Metal Sonic.
  • Original Character: We've already been over this.
  • Regent for Life: Was this for ten years of Elise's life, anyway; in addition to being the legal heir to the throne so long as Elise didn't have any kids. "Mairie" was also of the evil regent variety, using her position to basically be a blatantly corrupt individual while laying the groundwork for a future coup attempt.
  • Take That!: Is named for the screenwriter of Justice League Dark: Apokolips War. The writer of the fic didn't take kindly to what happened to Superboy in the film, to put it lightly. Hence this character's death.
  • The Wrongful Heir to the Throne: With Elise's parents being dead and Elise herself only being five years old at the time, Mairghread was her closest surviving relative and was thus technically her immediate heir to the throne. It's doubtful anyone in Soleanna believed she would naturally outlive Elise, but the possibility remained. She was far from desirable as an heir though, being far older and downright corrupt - having decreased public police funding just so she could privately fund them for herself, and musing about having commoners killed just because they annoyed her or made her niece happy. She was, understandably, not popular with the people at all.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Not only would she cause the end of the world if her niece who she liked to bully ever cried (though on the upside she'd probably be one of the first to go in such an event), but her end also came for her quick when she refused Eggman a refund and cancelled their alliance in favor of trying to take care of Elise herself. While he had the boat she was on surrounded by armed, armored robots.
  • You Hate What You Are: Comes from a country called Lochland, and seems to hate the traditional culture of her country according to the way she dresses and acts. She’s basically a Scottish/Irish woman who tries to present herself as an Uber-posh English woman instead.

    The Changelings
Revealed in the later chapters of the fic, the Changelings are nightmarish shapeshifting emotion eaters who have essentially replaced the Paradooms as the threat the heroes ought to be afraid of him. They're even shown taking on the Paradoom hordes with shocking ease.
  • Big Creepy-Crawlies: They are described by Oliver Queen as "hornets from hell", and yeah that is what they basically are in their true form.
  • Colour-Coded for Your Convenience: In Chapter 18, more powerful "elite" changelings are introduced. These are colored yellow-black, as opposed to the weaker red-black ones seen prior. It's implied the yellow-black are Elite Mooks while the red-black are the workers.
  • Emotion Eater: They can extend a second set of jaws that is used to suck the emotions of their victims as to leave them too numb to struggle anymore.
  • Hive Drone: The swarm members themselves appear to fit this role, hardly even speaking during most of their scenes and instead for the most part mindlessly attacking away at their enemies.
  • Shapeshifting: Their entire motif is that they can take the form of anyone they see.
  • Shout-Out: Their entire concept is a more mature take on the Changelings from that one cartoon about the ponies
