Notably, even Ah Gou doesn't manage to damage [[AC:Tian]] during the final fight, and Zi Yu was able to beat Ah Gou ''while blinded'', implying that Zi Yu may in fact be the strongest person in the entire setting except [[AC:Tian]] himself.]]

* FromASingleCell/HealingFactor: The Immortal Phoenix allows him this. Note that this is ''on top'' of the ResurrectiveImmortality granted by the Mark of Death.

* StarCrossedLovers: His forbidden love with Ming Yue, a human, ends in tragedy and her death.
* NighInvulnerable: Due to the Mark of Death, he just cannot die. Even decapitation doesn't stop him for long. It takes being incinerated and having his divine aura destroyed to kill him, and even that isn't permanent. After he gains the powers of the Immortal Phoenix he gains instantaneous regeneration and can even regenerate from a single cell in minutes.

* HeelFaceDoorSlam: [[spoiler:After the defeat of the gods, he has a revelation and decides to devote himself to helping humanity instead by building his godson, the only person he ever loved, into a good ruler. Unfortunately, his godson is a complete monster who betrays him and locks him up simply because Gui Mu is no longer useful to him.]]

* OurVampiresAreDifferent: He can heal himself by devouring people, and bathes in the blood of children to recover from his injuries in the battle against the Shang.
* SlasherSmile: His default expression in the battle against the Shang. He appears to have become more serious and mellowed over time, but he still cracks one every now and then when in combat.

* DudeWheresMyRespect: His crushing defeat at the hands of Emperor Zhou forever destroyed his reputation as a Great God, in spite of the fact that even 3 Great Gods could not defeat the Emperor. Given he managed to fight on par with powerful opponents like [[OldMaster Fu Yi]] and Li Jing (the latter whom managed to fight equally with ''Ah Gou''), his loss of respect is obviously unwarranted.

* HeelFaceDoorSlam: [[spoiler:After their final fight, Bai Lian has a revelation and realizes that he should reform his ways. Then Ah Gou immediately kills him.]]

* SlasherSmile: Unveils a spectacular one when his facade as TheStoic is stripped away.

* VillainousBreakdown: 2 spectacular ones. When Ah Gou defeats him the first time, he is sent into a deep depression and drinks away his sorrows, having lost respect by losing to a human. After Shen Yen convinces him to redouble his resolve, he battles Ah Gou again, only to be [[CurbStompBattle crushed even harder than before]]. He begins to envision Ah Gou as a giant and is too scared to even make a single move against him, until he completely loses it and breaks down into TearsOfFear.

* DangerousForbiddenTechnique: True void, which sucks air out of his target & suffocates them to death. Due to his mentor's death he does not want to use it & only uses due to Shi Xing's StoryBreakerPowers.
* HeelFaceTurn: Was the NiceGuy of Sage Kings. But after knowing what Shen Yen plans to do with current gods, he stands up against him.
* HeterosexualLifePartners/ThoseTwoBadGuys: With Tian Wu, whom he is usually seen with and has a d, and they are later shown to be very close friends.

* StatusQuoIsGod: Asks dark ones to lay down their weapons because he doesn't want the situation to any worst.

* OurElvesAreBetter: They have pointy ears, great height, grey skin, suffer social prejudice, and are more underhanded (by necessity) than their 'light' counterparts. The Dark Ones are Dark Elves in all but half their name.

* TookALevelInBadass: Over the course of the first season, Ah Gou

* MasterSwordsman: He's known as the greatest swordsman under heaven.

* DefeatEqualsFriendship: Although technically defeated by Zhen Chan, the fact that a human pushed Zhen Chan so far eventually causes him to make a HeelFaceTurn and become a major ally for the rest of the series.

* DefeatEqualsFriendship: Although technically defeated by Zhen Chan, the battle between the 2 urges Zhen Chan to make a HeelFaceTurn where he becomes a major ally for the rest of the series.

* FateWorseThanDeath: [[spoiler: As mentioned above, he is imprisoned by his godson, the only person he ever cared for, who [[GenreSavvy keeps him alive in case he might be useful in future]]. As of the end of the series, he seems doomed to be locked up in a tiny cell feeding on only scraps, his wounds festering and bloating him up.]]

* {{Badass}}: Hoo boy. Between fighting on par with the strongest Sage King, giving [[AC:Tian]], the strongest God a serious fight, and even [[CurbStompBattle curbstomping]] Ah Gou ''while blind'', he definitely qualifies.

* Badass: One of the few human who can fight on par with greater gods.

* {{Badass}}: He is not called the strongest warrior of the Gods for nothing. Tian Kui single handedly annihilated most of the Fallen Ones, and even Shi Xing who has been empowered by the Immortal Phoenix to levels even beyond that of Emperor Zi Shou spent most of the fight getting decimated by him, winning largely due to his functional immortality.

* {{Badass}}: The first opponent Ah Gou is utterly powerless against, despite having gained greater mastery and control of his divine powers.
** Even during Season 2 where Ah Gou has grown strong enough to defeat a Sage King, he still considers Zhui Ri a serious threat.

* Badass: Comes with being the strongest warrior of the Gods. In addition to overwhelming TieXue Wushuang with relative ease, he also overpowered Nitian Erxing for most of their battle, forcing him to reach ultimately fatal limits to beat him.
** [[spoiler: In the second invasion, he defeated and killed 2 of the strongest Dark One Generals, Zhonghe Tianxia and Hanfeng Linlin.]]

* BadAss: Capable of easily beating a sage king even after they were boosted by crystal mountain.
