The McKellans

     Amelia “M’Dear” McKellan
The vivacious matriarch of the family.
  • Big Beautiful Woman: M’Dear has a big gut, probably to balance out her huge heart and larger-than-life personality.
  • Everyone Has Standards: M'Dear may criticise Cocoa a lot, but when Cocoa's own mother begins to criticise Cocoa and Jade for how they look in their dresses for Cocoa and Moze's vow renewal, she defends Cocoa until Cocoa steps in and says she can handle it, at which point M'Dear let's Cocoa give her mother one hell of a ticking off. She then doesn't contradict Cocoa in anything she says and disparages Cocoa's mother, just because she can.
  • I Was Quite a Looker: Flashbacks of M’Dear’s younger years show her as quite the hot pick, with a vibrant personality and a sort of contagious energy.
  • It's All About Me / Sassy Black Woman: M’Dear has a larger-than-life personality and always has a witty retort for everything. She takes center stage wherever she goes.
  • Sibling Rivalry: Has this towards Maybelle.

     Jedidiah McKellan
M’Dear’s husband of 43 years. He may be the man of the house, but it’s clear M’Dear wears the pants.
  • Papa Wolf: Even though his kids are all grown-up, Jedidiah will not hesitate to use his fighting skills to get them out of any trouble.

     Moses “Moze” McKellan
The oldest of M’Dear’s children, husband to Cocoa, and father of four. Retired NFL player.

     Cocoa McKellan
Moze’s wife and mother of four. Currently brings home the bacon as a jewelry designer.

     Jade McKellan
The oldest of Moze and Cocoa’s kids. With a passion for fashion, her hair’s as big as her attitude.
  • Bratty Teenage Daughter: While Jade is a good girl at heart, she can be impulsive, stubborn, and a tad self-centered.
  • The Fashionista: Jade has inherited her mother’s style and taste for the finer things, and loves to design and sew clothes.
  • Sassy Black Woman: Jade can dish it out with the best. She is not afraid to speak her mind, even to adults, and won’t hesitate to fight for your respect.

     Shaka McKellan
The second-born and oldest brother. Shaka knows how to make it both on the streets and on the dance floor.
  • Dumbass Teenage Son: Shaka’s a good kid, but he’s not the sharpest knife in M’Dear’s kitchen.
  • Put on a Bus: In series 3, he is away at "boarding school" and doesn't appear.

     Moses “Mazzi” McKellan Jr.
Kid #3 of Moze and Cocoa. He may not have inherited his father’s love for sports, but the boy’s got the hands of an artist, the voice of an angel, and the soul of a poet.
  • In Touch with His Feminine Side: Mazzi loves to bake and play music. In an early episode, he’s worried that his father views him as less of a man because of his lack of interest in sports, and tries to amend this by joining the football team. Moze corrects him by saying men can have feminine interests and careers in cooking and fashion and still be men, and reassures Mazzi that he loves him no matter what.
  • Jock Dad, Nerd Son: Subverted. Mazzi tries to impress his retired NFL Star father by giving up baking and music and trying out for football. When Moze finds out his true motives, Moze defies this trope by telling him that he loves him not matter what, and that a “real man” is true to himself.

     Ami McKellan
The baby of the family. She may be the littlest, but she’s got the biggest heart.

     Maybelle
M'Dear' and Dot's sister

     Dot
