Playable Characters

    CJ
An adventurer from a family of treasure hunters seeking her fortune in the Runebarrows.

    Garoo
A mercenary who came to New Nevaeh to explore the Runebarrows. He eventually teams up with CJ.
  • But Now I Must Go: He leaves New Nevaeh after the events of the game in search of a cure for his daughter's illness.
  • Friend to All Children: He's surprisingly good with kids, despite his gruff demeanor.
  • In a Single Bound: He gains the ability to charge up his jump to cross wide distances.
  • Mighty Glacier: The strongest but slowest of the three playable characters, with the highest strength but the lowest amount of hits per combo string.
  • The Mole: It's revealed in the endgame that he's actually working with the Empire to try and steal the Rune-Lens hidden in the depths of the Barrows. At this point, however, he's grown to genuinely enjoy CJ and Isha's company and refuses to follow Hurstwine's order to kill them.

    Isha
The daughter of New Nevaeh's mayor, and the acting mayor of the town ever since his disappearance.
  • Blessed with Suck: She has the unique ability to use magic without a Rune-Lens. This made her an outcast among other children as she couldn't control her magic well, not to mention it rendering her terminally ill as it's actually due to her being born with a Rune-Lens already inside her body.
  • Disappeared Dad: Her father has been missing for a few months before the events of the game.
  • Young and in Charge: She's the same age as CJ, but she's responsible for the town's well-being. At least she has aides to help out.

New Nevaeh Residents

    Daksa
Isha's father, and the mayor of New Nevaeh.

    Shiva
The village elder of New Nevaeh.
  • Jerkass: He is not nice to outlanders, least of all CJ.
  • Secret-Keeper: He's the only one besides Daksa who knows the truth about the Barrows' Blessing.

    Gocteau
A man who came to New Nevaeh in search of gold. He works closely with Isha as a representative of the adventurers from out of town.

Other Adventurers

    Mellore
A self-proclaimed magical girl.

    Iugo
A swordsman from the East Reach who serves as New Nevaeh's town watchman.

Antagonists

    The Bandit Leader (UNMARKED SPOILERS

Hurstwine

The leader of the bandit gang that's been terrorizing New Nevaeh and the Runebarrows, and an agent of the Galdean Empire.
  • False Flag Operation: The "bandits" he leads are actually soldiers of the Galdean Empire.
  • Flunky Boss: Attacks the party alongside a few imperial soldiers.
  • In the Hood: He wears a hood like all the other bandits do, though his is white in contrast to all the others' black hoods.
  • Pre-Final Boss: He confronts CJ's party just before they reach the Sorcerer's inner sanctum.
  • Shame If Something Happened: He threatens Garoo with the prospect of something happening to his daughter if he doesn't kill CJ and Isha.

    The Sorcerer (UNMARKED SPOILERS
An unnamed sorcerer who's said to have cursed the Runebarrows.
  • Body Surf: He's been traveling from host to host for at least 300 years, with Daksa as his current host.
  • Dead All Along: Subverted. He physically died centuries ago, but his soul lives on.
  • Final Boss: He's the final obstacle before the party reaches the humongous Rune-Lens.
  • No Name Given: His actual name is never revealed.
  • One-Winged Angel: After he's defeated in Daksa's body, he transforms into an Eldritch Abomination.
  • Shapeshifter Guilt Trip: Attempts to pull this on Isha, given that he's currently in her father's body. She is having none of it, though, and attacks him without hesitation.
