Strit aka Spike

The main character of the story, known as a wanderer sicne she tends to stray from the tribe. But she is inspired by the stories her grandmother tells.
- A Child Shall Lead Them : She is the unofficial leader of the group
- Badass Adorable : She's feisty when dealing with the rats, even go so far as using a rock fro defense.
- Earn Your Happy Ending: Strit and Stumme finally escape the rats, Snake and lava. As the sun rises the paradise, they always dreamed is shown as they decide to enjoy it.
- Heartwarming Orphan :She becomes this once Gran passes on, so it is just her and Stumme to make the journey.
- Raised by Grandparents: It is implied in the story she's been raised by her grandmother yet her aren't around anymore.
Stumme aka Dumb Dumb

- Heartwarming Orphan :Despite being quiet and shy, he's loyal and sweet.
- Took a Level in Badass : He grows a backbone in standing up the the rats.
Gran

- Cool Old Lady: Despite her age she's not afraid to berate an old man who contradicts her stories and joins the group in a small dance.
- Doting Grandparent: She's basically this to both Strit and Stumme
Bluenose

The lovable adult who is not seen without picking mushrooms.- Functional Addict: His love for the mushroom liquor from red mushrooms is cause yet he knows what to do despite being drunk.
- The Alcoholic: This actually defines him but unlike the drunk stereotype he's not idiotic or abusive.
- Survivor Guilt: He goes through this when his addiction causes Fooly to be captured
Fooly

The only female besides Strit and Gran in the group.- The Ditz: She shows her quirkiness while listening to her walkman and speaks randoms things
- Heroic Sacrifice: Fooly risks helping Bluenose to escape but is caught by the rats
The Bird

The prophecized bird destined to lead the humans to the surface.
- All Flyers Are Birds: At first we think he can only walk, but he reveals he can fly.
- Bird vs. Serpent: Averted when the bird flees as the snake's eye opens, though he still manages to lead the kids to safety.
- Deadpan Snarker: The bird makes many sarcastic remarks as he hangs with Strit and Stumme.
The Rats
Center is Mr. President. Left to him is McDonald.
- Bad Boss: Mr. President is this to McDonald. McDonald is not above this either as he bites the tail of one goon for dancing about and letting the humans escape.
- Fantastic Racism: They feel threatened by the human wanderers who have dreams. They believe if they get past them and wake the snake, it be the end thus they steal the dreams with a machine rendering them emotionless puppets to dig tunnels.
- You Dirty Rat!: This basically spells out these guys.
The Snake

- Greater-Scope Villain: It's a greater threat than the rats.
- Snakes Are Sinister: It's a giant snake with an agenda according to gran's tales it wanted to destroy all of life. And is the rats natural predator.
