Asskicking Leads To Leadership is the new name of the trope.

* AsskickingLeadsToLeadership: As a member of a species that believes in talking with one's fists and not just with simple words, Attikus leads his Thrall brethren because he's a badass in addition to being a thinker. If the 4th playthrough of his DLC Story Operation is to be believed, he apparently gained his position from beating Aria, a top ranking member of the Silent Sisters. Said Silent Sisters were his people's wardens.
* TheChainsOfCommanding: In the 5th playthrough of his DLC Story Operation wherein Aria has imprisoned hundreds of his Thrall brethren, Attikus expresses this. While he does surrender himself to Aria in exchange for their freedom, she goes on back on her word and they all end up dead on his account. He admits that maybe there was no way he could have saved them but he does question himself how many more would he lead to their doom before this rebellion was over.
* CharacterDevelopment: Attikus' DLC story operation has him going through some development as he comes to terms with his role and existence whilst recounting/running a simulation of the events of the Third Thrall rebellion. Initially simply running the simulation as a means to cope with what happened, going through it a number of times eventually brings out some emotional baggage within him the likes of which causes him to lash out at Ambra for having used him and his Thrall brethren for her own selfish goals. His emotional turmoil even goes so far that rerunning the simulation is no longer cathartic. After being given some new perspective on things from Deande though, Attikus gains a new outlook that not only leads to making amends with Ambra but also actually bonding with Oscar Mike at the end who until this point Attikus considered as a nuisance.

dewicked Ill Girl

* IllGirl: Beatrix was born with a terminal disease that gave her a very weak body, a thing that is looked down upon by Jennerit society which greatly values strength. Because of this, she originally didn't have long to live. However thanks to her mother's lobbying to have Beatrix sustained for her genius, Beatrix became something akin to ''omicook/{{Deadpool}}'', an immortal stuck with an otherwise sickly body. Excerpts from her diary from the lore in [[https://forums.gearboxsoftware.com/t/battleplan-32-12-22-16/1552633 Battleplan 32]] reveal her thoughts about her illness.
-->There once was a girl named Trix\\
Whose body nobody could fix—\\
She went to the doctor\\
Who stabbed her and stocked her\\
With every pill in the mix.

* RantInducingSlight: This is what caused to her ultimately resign from her position in the Empire according to one of her lore challenges. Originally, Ambra diligently served the Imperium even after Rendain decided to ally the Jennerit Imperium with the Varelsi, apparently having been deceived along with others of what actually happened to their beloved Sustaining Mother, Empress Lenore. However despite apparently being deceived, she noticed that Rendain was making certain changes that were in her opinion causing wanton degradation of their proud and storied Imperium, something she couldn't fathom her beloved Empress would condone. These included things such as the discarding of their most treasured rituals and traditions, and the outright dismissal of the ceremony of Sustainment, crimes that Ambra considered grave enough on their own. However, the last straw that really drove Ambra to no longer tolerate what Rendain was doing was when he decided to bring a lapdog named "[[MisterMuffykins Constable Cuddles]]" to state functions in order to keep at the ready to calm his terror-stricken subjects. She found the beast to be so annoying with all its shedding and yapping, and the dread that it might "piddle" upon the floor of the Great Hall that she resigned from her position... though to be fair, after mentioning that, she did go on to [[CharacterFilibuster list 17 other infractions by Rendain that would go on for a hundred pages as she explained her interpretation of the relevant rules]].

** '''To the UPR:''' Faction-wise, the Jennerit and the UPR basically have a GoodRepublicEvilEmpire dynamic between them especially in regards to Rendain's Imperium. The Jennerit are a once space spanning empire that is very racist towards other races and under Rendain have decided to ally with the Varelsi. The UPR meanwhile, are a coalition made up of different space-faring civilizations that is very welcoming to other races and dedicated to defending against the Varelsi. * TheLastOfTheseIsNotLikeTheOthers: Unlike the majority of the Jennerit Battleborn who are {{Close Range Combatant}}s at their basics such as Rath with his swords and Caldarius with his short range gun, Beatrix is a LongRangeFighter with her SniperRifle-like syringe-arm. Although she herself isn't primarily close range focused, her kit however does supports those who are in the form of her Patient Zero ability. It especially supports those Battleborn who are specifically melee focused.

* TheLastOfTheseIsNotLikeTheOthers: Caldarius doesn't really mesh well with the rest of the Jennerit Battleborn, while the rest (excluding fellow misfit, Beatrix) are melee fighters with limited, if any ranged attacks in advanced, yet archaic attire, who generally avoid more conventional firearms in favor of close quarters weaponry. Caldarius, on the other hand, wears a high tech armored assault frame and wields a fairly accurate TMP, with his Energy Blade being a quick burst of damage at best. If anything, he more closely resembles a Battleborn from the UPR, with his conventional firearm, Grenade usage, and militaristic, if more advanced theme.

Playable Battleborn-wise, the majority of Jennerit Battleborn avoid standard gun-based weapons. They are in general skilled warriors who prefer to engage their enemies up close. In contrast, the majority of the UPR Battleborn focus on classic FPS weapons. They are in general very practical and down to earth with their abilities being very easy to understand but requiring time and a lot of situational awareness to master.

* DecapitatedArmy: {{Subverted}}. It's assumed that after Rendain was defeated in The Heliophae mission, his Thrall forces would simply disband or the like. They however instead continued on fighting in the name of his Imperium. Phoebe's DLC Story Operation has Beatrix explain that this is because the Thralls are genetically mentally incapable of following anyone who doesn't prove themselves to be breaking away from a strong to them.leader. As Rendain's Thrall forces saw him as really strong, they thus continued fighting in his name. [[spoiler: At the very end of the 10th playthrough run though, the situation becomes completely subverted via a small cutscene. Rendain returns back from the Void.]]
