Reactron
Reactron / Ben Krull
Species: Human
Known Aliases: Reactron
Portrayed By: Chris Browning
First Appearance: "Fight or Flight" (Supergirl 1x3)
Appearances: Supergirl
The first of Superman's foes to clash with Kara.
- Atrocious Alias: At least, that's what Kara thinks of his supervillain name.Kara: Reactron? That's kind of a stupid name. Who named him that?
- Clothes Make the Superman: Ben Krull is just a normal human, all his powers come from his suit. Once Kara yanks out the suit's core at the end of the episode, he's rendered powerless.
- Demoted to Extra: In the comics, Reactron is a major recurring villain of Supergirl and even the closest thing she has to an archenemy (before the New 52 revamp, at least). In the show, he is nothing more than a Monster of the Week who never reappears after his first episode.
- Even Evil Has Loved Ones: The very reason he became a villain is trying to avenge the death of his wife.
- Flying Firepower: His exo-suit allows him to fly as well as to shoot nuclear blasts from his hands.
- From Nobody to Nightmare: Just a few years ago, Ben Krull was nothing more than a simple reactor engineer. But ever since the death of his wife during the nuclear power station incident, he has become one of the most dangerous supervillains in Metropolis.
- Hand Blast: He can fire nuclear energy beams from his suit's gauntlets.
- Implied Death Threat: After capturing Maxwell Lord, he makes one of these to motivate him to repair his malfunctioning suit.Reactron: You're gonna repair my suit... or they're gonna start building memorials to you.
- Malevolent Masked Man: His exo-suit includes a mask that covers most of his face, which helps him conceal his identity.
- Misplaced Retribution: Reactron blames Superman for the death of his wife in spite of her dying in an accident he in no way caused and his only crime was not being able to save her. Amazingly, he is never called out on this. It probably wouldn't have done much good.
- Name-Tron: Like in the comics, he is a supervillain wearing a technologically advanced armor whose name is "Reactron".
- Offscreen Moment of Awesome: According to James Olsen, Reactron came very close to killing Superman on one occasion, which is no small feat.
- Powered Armor: He wears a high tech suit of armor that makes him strong enough to nearly kill a then-inexperienced Supergirl . According to James, he gave Superman a similar beating.James: I've seen what Reactron can do. [...] He nearly killed Clark once.
- Precious Photo: He is shown keeping a picture of his wife and himself before the nuclear power station incident.
- Put on a Prison Bus: After his defeat against Supergirl, he is last seen being arrested by the authorities and has never reappeared since then.
- Reports of My Death Were Greatly Exaggerated: Ben Krull was assumed by the world to have died with his wife during the nuclear station incident, but he actually survived with some radioactive burns and went on to become the supervillain Reactron.
- Revenge by Proxy: He comes after Supergirl when he finds out she’s Superman’s cousin. He wants to kill her to hurt him.
- Revenge Myopia: Reactron blames Superman for the death of his wife, who died when Superman stopped a reactor meltdown in the facility where they both worked.
- Rogues' Gallery Transplant: Played with. Reactron in the comics is a Supergirl enemy. Here he's changed to an enemy of Superman, but he still fights Kara.
- The Spook: Even the D.E.O. has no idea who Reactron really is or why he wants to kill Superman so badly. However, Kara discovers during the episode that he is actually Ben Krull, a supposedly dead station engineer who blames Superman for his wife's death.
- Super-Strength: Reactron's suit greatly enhances his strength, to the point he can hold his own against Kryptonians.
- That Man Is Dead: He says this when Supergirl tries to calm him down by calling him by his first name "Ben".Reactron: Ben Krull is dead! Superman saw to that.
- Ungrateful Bastard: Even though Maxwell Lord has volunteered to repair his suit earlier that day, Reactron still tries to kill him during his attack on the gala.Maxwell Lord: 'Don't suppose my fixing your nuke suit earns me a hall pass?
