The Show

     Josh "J" Cody
     Janine "Smurf" Cody
     Andrew "Pope" Cody

  • Interrupted Suicide: He's ready to shoot himself due to guilt over killing his lifelong love, Catherine, and his current girlfriend Amy being shocked and rejecting him over it. But it's interrupted by a phone call which triggers his Papa Wolf instincts. Later, he tries Suicide by Cop (the "cop" being Baz here, being the law enforcer regarding his wife's death) but Baz ultimately decides to forgive him and blame Smurf instead.
  • No Medication for Me: Refuses to take his meds after being released from prison. Baz and Smurf have to conspire to sneak it into his food, and when he finds out he complains that he isn't sure whether they like him more on them or as a psycho.
  • Troubled, but Cute: He's had a few flings in his own right, but not to the same amount as his brothers. This is because his mental issues can hold him back from making emotional connections, and yet at the same time he's more interested in love than the others (rather than one night stands, group sex and cheating).
  • Unto Us a Son and Daughter Are Born: He and Julia were fraternal twins. Discussed in the early episodes, then shown in a flashback in season four.
     Barry "Baz" Blackwell
     Craig Cody
     Deran Cody
  • Adaptation Name Change: A minor one, from Darren to Deran.
  • Armored Closet Gay: For this version, the writers took the movie's angle about Pope suspecting Darren to be gay and rolled with it to develop the television character. He is very closeted and defensive about his sexuality.
     Julia Cody
  • Posthumous Character: The show opens with her having died from a heroin overdose sat next to J while he was watching a TV show.
  • Unto Us a Son and Daughter Are Born: She and Pope were fraternal twins. Discussed in the early episodes, then shown in a flashback in season four.
     Nicola "Nicky" Belmont
     Catherine Blackwell
     Lucy
     Lena Blackwell
  • Adaptation Name Change: The Brown's daughter in the movie was a baby named Evie and as such she didn't have many characteristics. Here she's named Lena, aged a few years and more developed.
