Awesome / Sudden Death

  • Darren's first two Mook kills: first, the fight with the Penguins mascot, where they attack each other with everything they can grab in the kitchen before Darren finally sends her through a dishwasher; then, Darren's borderline Jack Bauer Interrogation Technique of pressing another guy's head on dry ice until he gives him details of the evil plan, followed by a fight that culminates in Darren stabbing the bad guy in the neck with a chicken bone.
  • When it looks like Foss is about to murder Emily, the Vice-President has to be held back from throwing himself at Foss to try and stop him / take the bullet instead.
Vice-President: You hurt that girl and you lose me as a hostage. Because you'll have to shoot me.
  • A small one from Darren's time on the ice disguised as Brad Tolliver. Before the game, Darren mentions to Brad that he played a little hockey before, completely incomparable to the level Brad does, as he makes quite clear with his "hockey teeth" smile. However, albeit through possibly the worst consequences imaginable, Darren gets an opportunity to play in the biggest hockey game in the world- game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals. The moment where he first steps out onto the ice in hockey gear, commendingly tapped by Brad's fellow Penguin teammates (and later when he makes the save), looking around at the electric, cheering crowd of over 10,000. They aren't cheering for Darren per se, but one has to wonder if, even for a second, it felt like a dream come true, and that he may actually have a little NHL-level skill in him.
    • Even under all of the enormous pressure he's going through for having to keep the game tied to save the lives of everyone in the arena, knowing he's surrounded by several professional hockey players in a championship game going against his comparatively small experience, and after fumbling and taking a brutal hit, he manages to stop a breakaway shot from none other than Blackhawks star ''Tony-goddamn-Amonte''. The tie-retaining save sends the crowd and Mike Lange into a frenzy, with the players all giving him congratulatory taps. Darren McCord made, in-universe, probably the biggest save in Penguins history, and no one will ever know that it's him. But in his mind, he probably thought that it surpassed any hockey milestone he could've ever made, both in the sense of the sport and also saving thousands of lives.
    • A couple for Darren's quick-thinking that saved his and eventually everyone's lives- being chased by the mooks into the locker room and disguising himself as Brad Tolliver, who just happened to be unwell and tending to his fever (while his replacement, Ken Wregget, was on the ice), and, after seeing that there's 4 minutes left in the game, sucker-punching a Blackhawks player to get himself (as "Tolliver") ejected so he could find the rest of the bombs, and later confront Foss.
  • Luc Robitaille (one of the few Penguins players at the time depicting themselves in the movie) gets a breakaway with seconds to go in the game with the Penguins losing by a goal, with Darren watching the clock from behind the glass in horror while the entire building goes insane. Just as the timer runs out, Luc dekes the puck around the goalie to tie the game to send it into overtime. No one but Darren or the people in the VIP box know not only that Luc Robitaille scored, in-universe, possibly the most important goal in Penguins history and kept them from a near-Stanley Cup loss, but also unknowingly just saved the lives of over 10,000 people. Darren looks just about ready to faint from disbelief before gathering himself and hastily heading off to do whatever else he can with what little and unknown amount of time he has left.
