Awesome / A Legionary's Life

Go To

Given the reputation of the Roman Legions as a Badass Army, and given this is one of the largest wars in Rome's history, the opportunities for glory will abound.—-

In General

  • Getting a good streak of rolls in battle and killing several enemies in one go.
  • Winning a Cup or an Armilla for your battlefield prowess.
  • Being promoted, having earned a higher rank by your valor and skill.
  • Gradually increasing your abilities through training or
  • Gaining chainmail armor. Blows that would have previously been lethal or grievous are now blocked from you, you become a tank on the battlefield.
  • Gaining a mural crown. In order to gain this you must be the first atop the walls of an enemy town during a siege, which means climbing to the top amidst enemy arrow-fire and killing a large number of enemy guards in a short span of time.

The First Campaign

  • Surviving your first siege. Thrown into a trial by fire with minimal training, you've come out of it alive and proven you have what it takes to be a soldier.

The Second Campaign

  • Saving the wounded veles by charging forth and killing all five of the Carthaginian Spearmen surrounding them. You win a Civic Crown for this heroism.
  • Killing one of Hannibal Barca's Veterans in battle! They're so deadly that even the proconsul is impressed when you send one to Hades.

The Third Campaign

  • Killing the Bulwark. You're facing a giant whose mace-swings can easily take out half your health, while using a close-range weapon. If you mange to kill him you'll feel like a badass.
  • Killing the Chiliarch of Agema. He's the strongest enemy you'll face in the game, and is noted as having slain the best swordsman in the Roman Army. Slaying him is considered a legendary feat, earning you the admiration of your peers and even superiors.
  • Defeating a phalanx. At that point you're not merely slaying individual men but taking on whole army units.
  • In the final battle, if you manage to break through the phalanx twice, you and your maniple can punch through the enemy line and slam into the Macedonians' flank. While you don't have the numbers to put them to rout, you stop their advance dead, saving the Roman front line that was moments away from breaking. That's a AwesomeMoment if ever there was one. And best of all? The legionaries you saved argee with that and bestow upon you the Grass Crown, Rome's highest decoration for valour, only granted to thoses who's actions saved an entire army. It's such a rare honour that it's noted that it has only ever been granted to five people. Now including you.
