Heartwarming / A Legionary's Life

Go To

Despite the horrors of war, there are some occasions that bring tears of joy.

  • Whenever you risk your own safety to save the life of a fellow Roman soldier, whom you might not know or even ever meet again. It's a reminder that, even in the brutal warfare of the ancient world, men were still capable of being kind-hearted.
  • Right before the battle of Zama, you reflect on all the times Rome triumphed when it was close to ruin and the roles your ancestors played in that, and how your own grandparents fought in the first Punic War. It really captures how many in the legion would have felt themselves part of a tradition going back to Romulus. And if you survive to retire, your son follows in your footsteps - the line of heroic Romans continues.
  • If you survive all three campaigns and return to Rome alive with either a Civic Crown or a Grass Crown, then you get admitted into the Senatorial Rank - greatly improving your family's quality of life. If you have the funds and intelligence you rise to the office of the Consul, and if you completed the game with high honor then the epilogue says you use your office to see veterans of the legion compensated even though it meant making enemies in the Senate.
