Junk Boy is a one-shot anime OVA released in the late eighties before promptly disappearing off the face of the earth. Obscure even by OVA one-shot standards not much is generally known about it save for the fact that it's name is Junk Boy and that it's main character is an extreme pervert. The total runtime clocks it at just under an hour at 45 minutes with a story that focuses on a sex-crazed 23 year old named Ryohei Yamazaki landing his dream job at a popular skin mag called "Poteto Boy" and the many sexy hijinks that follow. (And no, that name isn't a typo... it's really spelled like that despite everyone pronouncing it as "Potato Boy" for some reason...)
The show is supposed to be a sex comedy, but with nothing much to offer aside from tired dick jokes and the occasional softcore nudity it quickly becomes obvious why this one fell by the wayside and vanished into obscurity so quickly after it hit the market. The main character is more annoying than funny, the plot is as bare bones as it gets and there just simply aren't a whole lot of reasons to watch it at all. Still, if a viewer can get past the odd premise and tsunami of off color pervert jokes they might just find themselves enjoying it... as something to point and laugh at if nothing else.
Junk Boy provides examples of:
- All Men Are Perverts: Taken to an extreme. Ryohei is so constantly horny he makes Kintarou Freaking Oe look like a conservative celibate priest in comparison.
- Bittersweet Ending: Ryohei is fired from his dream job and thrown out a window by his boss for going through her underwear drawer but at least he managed to learn how to be less of a selfish lover and was able to part on good terms with Aki before she heads off to Africa for her next big article.
- Fanservice: It's an old anime sex comedy from back when dubbing companies would license just about anything they could get their hands on. If naked women, porno shoots and raging erections are not your type of thing this is the wrong anime for you.
- Gag Penis: Arguably, Ryohei's dick is a bigger character in the show than he is. Almost every joke revolves around it and it's what causes about 90% of the events in the OVA to happen in the first place.
- Intrepid Reporter: Aki is very famous for going undercover to get all her big stories and has posed as a stripper, gambling addict and even a soapland girl to get the material she wants for her reports. By the end of the OVA she's flying off to Africa to gather information for her next big piece.
- Panty Thief: After visiting his boss in her apartment to turn in his new report Ryohei waits a moment for her to get distracted and immediately goes for her panty drawer in the other room. When she then finds him fondling her underwear she tosses him out a window, only to quickly discover that he also nabbed her bra on the way out. This is how the show ends.
- Raging Stiffie: The main joke in the OVA... in fact, it's about the only joke in the OVA. Ryohei's towering erection actually drives the main plot forward more than he himself does.
